No point in reporting it lol not much you can do now. This loophole is going to get closed sooner than later and I'm sure they will close the UDP upgrade as well.

Dear Verizon CEO,

Bichigo at SlickDeals just wants to let you know that he's prepared to buy 20 iPhone 6+ 128GB for $499 to sell in China for $1000 by exploiting a loophole in your upgrade system. Just thought you'd like to know. I can give you some more info for another UDP line, just in case you're asking.

Sincerely, your friend

Jules

:D

Dear Jules,
Not sure why the email is from a fellow KPOM's email address.
Please provide your current resume, I've heard that you currently do not have any emplyment.
I will forward your suggestion to close this "loophole," even though I do not believe any loopholes can exist under the best management team in the industry. Verizon is committed to improving your telecommication needs.
Quite honestly, I count my salary in the scale of million of dollars, $450 can be made while I'm sitting on the ******* or day dreaming in my sleep. Yes, I make more money in my dream than your entire life and I also have time to daydream whiling dreaming.
On a second thought, you're hired to deal with this "loophole" business. While you're at it, free udp for life. Why do I care? Whether the company make or lose money I still get my salary, maybe a little less bonus. I already have more money than God, I can afford to spread some around.

Sincerely yours,
LM

Well, I did upload my AT&T bill and was given a quote of $26.50 for unlimited everything from Sprint (based on my $53.74 pre-tax bill from AT&T). If anyone has a $45 loyalty plan that has actually been billed, care to check to see if they give you a $22.50 offer for unlimited everything?

My pre-tax savings work out to just over $650 over a 2 year period. So it's essentially a wash (apart from the upfront $200 that they want if you don't turn in a phone), though it comes with unlimited minutes and texts, but with less LTE coverage and spottier network, though in Chicago (my home network) their network is as good as AT&T's.

I'll see if AT&T will budge at all.

Wow. Can't believe they'd actually sell you service that cheap. They can't be making much on that.

The problem with Sprint is the higher frequencies they license/use. Sprint's PCS runs on the 1900MHz spectrum and does not penetrate buildings as efficiently as the lower radio frequencies that the other carriers operate on. How radio waves are absorbed by matter is a physical law of the universe and cannot be changed by mankind.

All you can do to deal with this reality is improve the radios and antennas and signal amplifiers that are inside of the devices, which the phone manufacturers presumably are doing. Of course repeaters (signal amplifiers in conjunction with an antenna) in buildings can help but this requires installation of hardware by the building owner and/or tenant.

So at the end of the day, as long as Sprint operates at the higher radio frequencies, they will have worse building penetration than the other carriers. In time the radio/antenna/amplifier technology may vitiate that disadvantage but we aren't there yet.

No, which is why I don't expect AT&T to match it completely. They are calling me this afternoon, though, so maybe they'll offer something. I'm not taking any offer from AT&T that requires me to give up my UDP, though. I'm holding out that pressure from the FTC will cause them to stop throttling at 5GB.

I'm aware of the issues, though in Chicago LaptopMag's test showed Sprint coming in second only to Verizon, and slightly ahead of AT&T. Anyway, AT&T is supposed to call me this afternoon. I'll see if they offer me any sweeteners to stick around.

Well another loophole has been exposed on the SD thread.

http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=72553810&postcount=14570

It works with either a TDP or a basic line to receive the upgrade and results in you getting to repeatedly upgrade the same line over and over again using the 4ever method. I don't have any upgrades to test it out, but in theory you shouldn't have to use a UDP line's upgrade - any line should be able to be the upgrade donor line in theory. But since the SD thread is about UDP upgrades, so far at least that is all that have been tried.

I have already warned others about my experience here and on SDs so proceed at your own risk if at all. After what I went through, I wouldn't do this. I don't have any upgrades to do it with anyhow but as I now know, Verizon can blacklist all of the IMEIs of the devices.

I am just bummed that this loophole exists b/c people are going to abuse it and Verizon is going to fix it and when they do, they may fix all of the loopholes that allow us to upgrade our UDP lines. :(

Well I'm giving it a go! I used the Comcast link do upgrade! Is this the best way to do it? I placed the order and now it shows a pending order on my udp line not the tdp line I transferred the upgrade too. Just want to make sure I don't mess this up!

Thanks for the updates. I have two $45 udp but like you haven't gotten a bill yet to see if they'd cut it in half.

That's fine. It's pretty amazing to me that Verizon's IT people are so incompetent.

AT&T Customer Care (who claimed to have "all the cards that Retentions normally uses") wasn't willing to put me on the legacy 900 minute plan, but was willing to give me 1000 extra rollover minutes and put me on the unlimited messaging and any-carrier M2M plan for $10, which is normally $20. It would be a $3.75 increase for me with my corporate discount. I made it effective three months from now, since I don't need unlimited M2M yet with the extra rollover minutes I just got.

It's a start, and not bad for playing "softball." In the meantime, the Sprint promo runs through 1/15/15. I have a few weeks to try the retention desk again. I may do so around the first of the year, just before the Sprint half price promo ends. He gave me the pitch on the Mobile Share plan. I wasn't buying it. 6GB might be fine now, but won't always be.

If anyone is able to extract a better deal from AT&T or Verizon, let us know. I, for one, am not about to negotiate with Verizon on a "loophole" UDP account I opened up 5 weeks ago, though I may drop it down to the 30 minute loyalty plan now that I have the extra minutes on AT&T.

Same here. I'm never going to contact Verizon now lol. I would drop it down to 30 minutes in case that loyalty plan goes away. You can always go back to regular NW plans if you need to.

I'd pull the trigger with Sprint if they'd let me keep my AT&T account instead of porting my number over, all other terms the same. Heck, even add a 2 year contract if they want. I just don't want to give up a network I know is good for one I don't know about, since I can't get a UDP back. If Sprint is willing to give me a $26.50 unlimited everything plan if I buy a phone at full price and give them $200 or an old phone, why do they care whether I port my AT&T number or not?

I wonder if any creative types will figure out how to do a "Google Voice" trick with Sprint. I.e. can you put in a port request with Sprint, but then change the Verizon number within 24 hours so that Sprint gets your Verizon number but you keep your Verizon UDP open?

I agree. Shouldn't have to port if you sign a two year.

I'd be really nervous doing that haha.

Lets see what the next loop hole they open up for us is! lol.

Thanks for the help, I'll report back here or the sd thread. Should have the phone by monday.

I have 2 UDP lines, one off contract upgrade eligible and 1 on-contract no upgrade.

Could I transfer the upgrade from my off contract to my on-contract and order a phone making that line a TDP and do this method?

The wiki is very informative:

http://slickdeals.net/f/6964624-upgrade-and-keep-your-unlimited-data-with-verizon?v=1

You will lose UDP on one line if you do that. I prefer that these questions stay on the SD thread b/c then others who might have the same question can read the answer and hopefully people will ask me fewer questions over there, lol!

Also if you put your line situation in chart form with the data plan, phone and upgrade status before and after to show what you hope to accomplish it makes it easier for people to help.

My verizon shows my upgrade as 2016 on my udp line and I haven't even got the phone yet..... could it be the loophole is closed already!?

Idk why it works for some people. I just know that people are reporting it works. Check over on the SD thread. Can you cancel the order?

You have to order from Verizon directly right?
That is what it is looking like b/c it isn't working if you click through the Comcast link. Snkydvl Method should work too if 4ever does but you would have to try it to know. From this thread on AC it looks like it worked for a guy doing Jaycemiskel too, which is odd b/c it didn't involve an upgrade transfer from what he posted:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon/457982-basic-line-still-showing-upgrade-available.html

I don't have an upgrade available to test this and even if I did after what Verizon put me through I am not about to try something like this. If anyone is interested in knowing more, please read/search the slick deals thread. I am simply reporting what others are reporting and I don't have any more information than what is posted over on that thread.

Yeah. I don't think this is something I want to get into either. Was just wondering, a little curious is all. Hope you're loving your new phone!!! =D

My phone hasn't shipped yet :( I waited to order until late night on Cyber Monday and from what I have read, they ship on Tuesdays from the Chinese factory. So if you ordered early in the day your phone shipped last Tuesday, but for mine it won't ship until this Tuesday. Supposedly you get them by Friday of the week they ship.

I should have just ordered earlier in the day on Cyber Monday but I was hesitant b/c the bootloader is not unlockable and all of the devs seem to have given up on rooting Motorola phones since you can get the Moto X Pure Edition for GSM carriers and the Nexus 6 even on Verizon and Sprint. It is a lot of effort for them to put in for only the relatively small number of Verizon Moto X owners.

Now that Lenovo owns Motorola, they shut down the BL unlock code sellers but I did read where some unlocked Moto X's showed up on Tao Bao leaked from the factory when they weren't supposed to have been. We can only hope that they can get the unlock codes the same way, lol!! Seems funny for me to be wishing for a security breach at the Chinese Moto X factory but I am!!!

Greetings,
New member... sent over from SD website thru Jules. No WIKI to read thru so asking for direction on where to read or advise.

Looking to add to UDP's to existing Verizon account. Have 5 lines, 2 with UDP, 1 TDP, and 2 with no data. All but UDP lines out of contract. Want to convert 2 non data lines to UDP if possible with purchase of new iphones.
Would also like to convert TDP line to UDP with new iphone purchase as well.

Thanks in advance.
