I am scared its a scam. I had 1 guy contacted me and that was what he explained to me. I was like yeah sure buddy. Get lost. Did I just made a mistake ????
the process is that you call in to the AOL department with the buyer's name and authorize them to take the line. Then you give the buyer the phone number and they call AOL department and instantaneously get the line after they accept the T&Cs.

So I AOL'd a line, and then sold the phone. Phone was never opened or activated.

Now the guy with the phone is trying to activate it on an (unrelated) Verizon line, and is getting an error message:
"It appears you would like to activate your recently purchased device. Please sign in to My Verizon to complete your new device activation"

Is this normal / expected? VZW told him that he needs to activate the phone on the original line (which I don't have anymore), and that there's no other way around this.

Would activating a PDI on the line before AOL'ing it avoid this? Or do I need to actually open the phones and activate them before selling?

I think Jules said a PDI would resolve this issue - I'm not sure though.
I sold one yesterday that also wasn't fully activated before I AOLed the line. He was shipping it int'l and tested it by popping in a sim and it looked like it worked. Have the buyer try just popping in an active sim.

istocknow update for your guys?
if it is - I don't think any store within 500 miles of me received anything

It worked for me. Three stores showed the iPhone I wanted (Verizon SG 64GB) and the online Apple Stored agreed. I added it and was checking out when my Apple ID password didn't work (I have no idea why). I reset the password and by then all of the stores had sold out. IStockNow still claims all three stores have it, but Apple's online store shows no stock.

iStocknow takes a while to refresh, but the 64GB literally get sold out ASAP.

I've been trying for days 64GB + for personal use and haven't succeeded yet

I'd have one if I hadn't had to reset my Apple ID password. Now to find out what happened with that password.

If I wanted a 16GB or 128GB SG those are both still available, but 16GB isn't enough for me and I'm not going to spend an extra $100 on the 128GB since I don't need it.

I wanted to pick a 128GB Plus but you can't actually pick one up for in-store pickup. It shoots an error that Verizon requires you to ship it or something, at least for my account.

64GB and unders have worked fine though

I tried with a 128GB up to the final "Place Order" and it worked for me.

Need UDP line for new iPad Air 2...

Been reading through this thread and I want to confirm something with you all. If this question was already answered, I missed it through all of the pages, and I apologize in advance.

I currently have four Verizon UDP lines and just got a new iPad Air 2 that I want to get unlimited data on. If I go to Apple and add a line to my account, the subsidized phone will cost about $570 out the door (6 Plus SG 128 GB). When that phone arrives, can I pull the SIM out of it and put it into my iPad and have an UDP under contract for two years? If so, can I just sell the unactivated iPhone for best offer and the buyer can just activate it, or will they encounter problems? By putting the SIM in the iPad, will that activate the phone/account line, so Verizon will not want me to pay the cost difference of the subsidized and un-subsidized phone cost? All I want is the SIM for the UDP, if it will work in my iPad, and then get my money back that I am out for the phone by selling it. The phone line will cost me about $43.00 (29.99 plus 9.99 plus tax) every month, which is what the other three cost every month.

Again, I do not want to sell and AOL the line, only the unactivated or activated phone.

Since the phone will not have a SIM, as it will be in my iPad, should I just get one from a Verizon store or order one off of Amazon for a few bucks?

Thanks in advance...

This will work without issue. Just turn the phone on and set it up then swap the SIM. No need to replace the phone SIM as the new owner will need to replace anyway.

That can cause issues. If VZW sees that the SIM is in a tablet, they could change the data plan. Also, since the CDMA radio your phone is also tied to your account (unlike with a true GSM network operator like AT&T or T-Mobile), your friend may not be able to use it with Verizon (though it should work fine with T-Mobile or AT&T, as it's unlocked).

If you are just looking for a decent data deal on an iPad, I'd go with T-Mobile. They have 3GB for $30 postpaid or prepaid, and are currently running a 5GB for $10 one-time special (you make a one-time purchase of 5GB for $10 that you can use for up to 5 months). I'd go with that, and then switch to their postpaid plans when you run out. The T-Mobile postpaid tablet plans just throttle when you go over.

My worries have always been if someone gets a hold of that sim and the phone can technically take over your line. Now what would you do? Terminate the line? Blacklist the phone?

What SIM. Order a new iPhone with UDP. Turn it on and wait for it to show online in your account. Then take out the SIM and place it in your iPad. There is no SIM for someone to get because it is in your iPad.

Verizon cannot do anything because this is a C-Block LTE SIM and the FCC would have their a**. I placed my UDP SIM in an iPad in 2012 and it has only been in iPad's since then. 8-40GB/mo.

Definitely get the T-Mobile 200mb/month promo. It's free. It will also allow tethering. I'm not sure if Verizon blocks tethering on iPads, but I do know that T-Mobile doesn't. Once tethering is unblocked on T-Mobile you can tether with your Verizon sim as well. That's what I did and it worked on my Air 2 :D

It will "work" with another active VZW SIM, but it will register as an "unknown" device similar to my T-Mobile iPhone 6. It might not be able to be used to register a new line since VZW will see that it has a pending activation on another line.

Comprehension problem....

What if it runs on 3G?

So you AOL'ed the line w/o a PDI on it? Did you ever activate a phone on that line b/f AOLing it?

Is the buyer trying to activate the new phone with the original SIM card in it?

Is this normal / expected? VZW told him that he needs to activate the phone on the original line (which I don't have anymore), and that there's no other way around this.

Would activating a PDI on the line before AOL'ing it avoid this? Or do I need to actually open the phones and activate them before selling?
Clearly the safest route is to open the phones and activate them, then AOL the line with a PDI on it and then sell the phone.

What happens if he tries to activate the phone with a new SIM card?

While this is true for tablets, reps have been known to kick someone off of UDP if they see a MiFi device on a UDP phone line. The person was able to get it back by filing an IPR.

Works fine for me - 16GB IP6 and iP6+ everywhere near me but no 64GB anywhere to be found.

I am not concerned about someone getting the SIM in the iPad for the UDP.

I just want to be able to sell the phone and another person be able to activate it on whatever carrier and data plan they want, and it is not linked to me. I do not want to be on the hook for the $400 cost difference.

If I am going to use the line myself and pay the bill every month for two years, does Verizon really care who has the phone and what they are doing with it? In all reality, I should be able to swap the SIM out of my current 6 Plus and put it into my iPad and it should work? It is my SIM and I can move it between devices as long as I am paying the bill. Does it really matter if I use 20GB of data on the phone or the iPad? It is still an UDP line. I know they subsidized about $400 of the phone, but they make that back up on the two year contract.

So, it sounds like the iPhone SIM will work fine in the iPad. Looks like I should activate the phone with the SIM in it and then pull it out and put it in the iPad and we should be fine.

When I sell the phone, they can bring it to a carrier and they can activate it with no problems, it sounds like?

What are the odds of Verizon figuring out it is in the iPad, and does it really matter? Has it happened to anyone and they cancelled the UDP?

Any thoughts? Thanks again...

I think the problem is that the buyer is trying to activate the iP on a Verizon line using the SIM card that the scan activation associated with the line that has now been AOLed.

Have the buyer try just popping in an active sim.
That would definitely work.

so Verizon will not want me to pay the cost difference of the subsidized and un-subsidized phone cost?
I have never heard of this happening.

Tell the buyer of the phone they must supply their own SIM card.

He wants to avoid activating the new iPhone so he doesn't want to turn it on with the SIM card in it. Idk if it will work or not.

Have any of your buyers had issue with activating their sealed iPhones?

----------

Also, since the CDMA radio your phone is also tied to your account
The CDMA radio is not tied to your account. For the CDMA network, Verizon ties the IMEI of the device that is currently active on a line to the line until you put another device on the line. Once you do, the previous device's IMEI is free to be put on another Verizon line.

This is why I suggest putting a PDI on a line b/f you AOL it.

----------

My worries have always been if someone gets a hold of that sim and the phone can technically take over your line. Now what would you do? Terminate the line? Blacklist the phone?
As long as you have a different SIM card active on the line, the other SIM card should be disassociated with the line.

But to AOL a line that has never had a device on it to someone and then to sell a phone that is associated with that line to someone else with the SIM card in it that is associated with the line you AOLed is dangerous. The IMEI, ICCID and the line are associated with each other until you do something to change that - i.e., put another device on the AOL'ed line and use a different SIM card to activate the phone.

That's what I meant (i.e. there is a direct tie of the device to the account, unlike with a true GSM carrier, where SIM swapping is commonplace).
