Is it possible to port my current AT&T number to Verizon to take advantage of one of these UDPs? I would like to keep my current number if at all possible.
yes.

And second, when it comes time to buy the new iPhone next fall, am I able to do that without losing my unlimited data if I were to switch to Verizon?
These lines will be on contract for 2 years so no upgrade for 2 years. Are you asking if you can pay full retail for an iPhone next year? yes, that doesn't affect UDP.

To the first question, yes, you can port your number. I'd AOL an account first, and then port numbers later. It's super easy to change your mobile number on Verizon, and there is no fee if you do it online. A new number request is instant. A port can take a day or so. Be advised that a number port will cancel your AT&T account, so if you have UDP from AT&T you'll need to give that up in order to port the number.

Regarding the second, if you purchase the "iPhone 6S" at full price you'll preserve your UDP. If you are looking for a subsidized phone, it will depend on whether the "glitch" is still present or makes a re-appearance after VZW inevitably closes the loophole. If you add a subsidized iPhone to an existing line it replaces your UDP with a tiered plan. What people are doing here is adding a new line, which makes the unlimited data plan appear as a choice if you select the Nationwide Voice plans.
Thanks for your quick reply!

I guess I'm just batting around the idea of doing this and one side of me wants to do it immediately but the other side of me thinks it's not worth any kind of risk.

Is the AOL instant though? Say if I were to go to an Apple Store and get a Verizon iPhone can I just go home and complete the process on the phone? I see posts about AOL reps sometimes not knowing what they are doing or something going wrong, that's my only real concern is actually losing the UDP while getting the account going.

AOL is instant.
So sequence of event.
1. get udp
2. port number from att
3. get iphone full price
4. place iphone on udp line.

I AOLed my extra line out last night. I called VZW at 7:00, waited on hold for about 10 minutes, and was done by 7:15. Literally, all VZW needed was the name of the buyer. The buyer called about 10 minutes later to accept the transfer. He needed to PM me because VZW wanted to know why I had suspended the account, but that was an easy reply (I didn't even need to call). Within half an hour he was at the VZW store getting a new SIM card. He did need me to put my SIM back in the phone so he could get the PIN to activate a My Verizon online account (they send a text to the phone number), but everything went smoothly and the line came off my account immediately and he told me the UDP plan was still on the account when he logged on.

Thanks Jules!
Now I finally switched to the NW 700. And I just checked the Apple site to see if I can add a line... voila! I see the UDP. Going to add a line and actually use it as with a tablet. At least this way I can use it as a hotspot as well for my kids viewing pleasures!!!

And, yes, I'm still following you guys. I'm going to ask around now to see if anyone I know is willing to take a UDP line from me. :)

Well this is easy then just call the AOL department and tell them to switch you to the NW 700 minute plan with either payg, 1000 or UL texts and to leave the data plans unchanged. Then you will be able to add a new UDP line via apple.com.

You can keep the new UDP line suspended w/o billing for 6 months and use the TDP line until you are closer to your TDP line's contract end date if you want to minimize the etf of the TDP line. Or you can terminate the TDP and pay the etf as soon as you get the new UDP line.

Once you are ready to terminate the TDP line, you can port your TDP line's number to page plus to terminate it then port the number back to the new UDP line.

Cost will be $170/mo for 2 UDP lines and a basic line. I would keep the basic line for upgrade transfers. You can use neomits method to use the basic line's upgrade to get a new iPhone and either keep it or sell it to pay for the cost of the basic line for 2 years.

1. Get UDP. ( better to get 700 mins Talk&txt plan.. Y? read step 4 )
2. place UDP on any cheap or borrowed 4G phone.
3. port number from ATT.
4. get new Iphone with UDP. get rid of UDP or place on suspend mode. replace 4G phone with Iphone.

optional
5. buy more Iphones with UDP. Get rid of UDP and sell Iphones for $$$.
6. repeat step 5.

I thought you had to have a device before you can start the process?

Any thoughts on a good reliable VZW LET Android tablet? I already have FoxFi on my wife's line so I can always install that on there.

JulesJam or others:

Anyone see an error when trying to switch devices on myverizon?

"Unfortunately, none of the lines on your account are eligible to receive the Online Authorization Code."

This thread implies you need to have an open account for 30 days:

Any way around this? I don't want to call everytime I want to switch devices and my mifi and ip5 use different size sims.

Just get a Mifi Jetpack if you plan to use as Wifi router.

buy yourself a good sim adapter.

buy yourself a good sim adapter.

I could do that, but why does myverizon have the option to switch devices on a line if it is going to error every time?

Besides I am going to be switching between phone and mifi a lot, and don't want the hassle of switching sims.

No. You can AOL an account even if you don't have a device. It just requires a phone call to Verizon. Getting it active is tricky, though. You'll need some cooperation from the seller, or a VZW whitelisted phone that you can have a store or authorized reseller add to the account.

You can do a lot from My Verizon online, but you need a PIN that they'll send only by text to the number in question. So if you have a friendly seller, you can assume liability, go onto www.verizonwireless.com, and start setting up a My Verizon account, which will send a text message to the phone number. If the seller will put the SIM into a phone and tell you the PIN, you can then finish setting up your account online. You can then go to a VZW retailer and ask them to add a SIM to your account and remove the old SIM from the account.

Otherwise, the best way IMO is to buy a cheap whitelisted phone with a nano-SIM from Swappa (you can get an iPhone 5 for around $150 or less), and have a Verizon store or authorized retailer add it to your account after you have assumed liability for the account. It took me about 15 minutes in a corporate store.

I'm having this exact same issue. I put PDIs on everything, but now I want to activate some SIMs to put in MIFIs. Obviously can't do that on the phone.

By the terms of the block C licenses, Verizon can't stop you from doing it. however, the reps will not activate a MiFi on these lines. And if they see one on these lines, many will tell you that you are doing something wrong when you are not. 1 guy on SDs reported getting his sister's UDP taken away when he called when his sister had her MiFi on her line. He was able to get it back for her but they had to go through an IPR.

Moral of this story - activate a phone on these lines first. Then do the sim swap and never call Verizon with a MiFi or a tablet on the line.

There is no need to throw it in Verizon's face that we have figured out a way to get a $45/mo 4G LTE Unlimited MHS.
Just got off the line with 611 and the lady said she can change it to a Lower mins plan however udp will be changed to tiered. I confirmed it with her that there is no other way. I might call back later and speak to a different rep.

So if you currently have a PDI on a line and no phone, you would then need a SIM and a whitelisted phone to get the PDI off and have an active working line? Think that's what I've gathered from previous posts.

If you switch a lot, might as well use your phone as Wifi Router. You need to root or jailbreak your phone.

Step 5 is very addicting, be careful

I've had no issues with a authorized user picking the phone up. Not sure the apple employees could tell if it's a new line or upgrade.

They do a license scan though, right? I thought it HAD to be the primary person on the account? Does anyone else have info on this?

I just bought a mhs291 (like new) on amazon for $70

There may be a lot of these on the used markets. Millenicom (a verizon reseller) just shut down and this was the wifi they issue to their customers. Look around for a mhs291l. They are great units.

No way around it. If it doesn't go away after 30 days, call and complain about it.

My mom opened a new account and it is less than 30 days old and she still gets that message.

Well she is wrong. You need to go back and read how I did it. Follow it exactly.

The way I read this from a verizon rep on the forum:

Autumnworm,

I do believe you've hit the nail on the head! In order for a line to be eligible to receive that code it must be active for a minimum of 30 days. In addition to that, the line also has to have the same phone on it for the last 30 days. Account security is a huge concern that we take very seriously, and this new feature helps to ensure no unauthorized changes are made.

Is that you can only use the switch devices feature on myverizon once every 30 days. Kinda makes it worthless for frequently switching phones. Oh well a sim adapter it is.

People here discuss how you never want to call verizon if you have a mifi device on your line. I can see why this is, but can't they see a history of devices you have had on that line? For example, Joe has a mifi on his UDP line for years, then swaps the sim to a 4g phone. Calls verizon. Wouldn't the rep be able to see that Joe had the mifi on the line for years and her reaction would be the same?
