No. You can AOL an account even if you don't have a device. It just requires a phone call to Verizon. Getting it active is tricky, though. You'll need some cooperation from the seller, or a VZW whitelisted phone that you can have a store or authorized reseller add to the account.

You can do a lot from My Verizon online, but you need a PIN that they'll send only by text to the number in question. So if you have a friendly seller, you can assume liability, go onto www.verizonwireless.com, and start setting up a My Verizon account, which will send a text message to the phone number. If the seller will put the SIM into a phone and tell you the PIN, you can then finish setting up your account online. You can then go to a VZW retailer and ask them to add a SIM to your account and remove the old SIM from the account.
So what is on the lines when you AOL them? Your phone?

People here discuss how you never want to call verizon if you have a mifi device on your line. I can see why this is, but can't they see a history of devices you have had on that line? For example, Joe has a mifi on his UDP line for years, then swaps the sim to a 4g phone. Calls verizon. Wouldn't the rep be able to see that Joe had the mifi on the line for years and her reaction would be the same?

Don't call because it can create mass confusion and things can get changed without notification by reps when they seem like a mistake. They are not PI's so they aren't out to "catch you". Using any device with an LTE SIM is within your rights and carries no consequence.

Idk if a data only device shows up in your device history or not but even if it does, I don't think it is common for them to go poking around in your device history unless there is a reason to.

While you are correct that legally Verizon can't stop you from doing this, reps are not lawyers and there have been people switched off of UDP by reps for having MiFi devices on lines with voice minutes. Now they got their UDP back when the filed an IPR, but who the hell wants to have to go through that?

Just put a dang phone on the line using a SIM adapter if necessary b/f you call. End of problem.

Yes.

I've AOLed a grand total of one line. When I AOLed it in, I added a used Verizon whitelisted iPhone 5c that I bought on Swappa to the account, and then ordered an iPhone 6 with the $5 messaging plan using the "glitch." I suspended the first line w/o billing a few days ago, and AOLed it out yesterday. I had taken out the SIM but did not "remove" the device from the account. When the buyer AOLed it, he opened up a My Verizon online account, but needed me to reinsert my SIM so I could receive the text message with the PIN and let him know what it was so he could finish setting up My Verizon. He had no issues getting a new SIM from a Verizon store after that.

My iPhone 5c now is sporting the Verizon SIM from the iPhone 6 that I purchased over the weekend. I have my AT&T SIM in the iPhone 6 for now until I can start "phasing in" my Verizon number to my contacts.

OK but he probably didn't need to create MyVerizon access to get the SIM. Once he assumed liability of the lines, he could have just shown his ID at the Verizon store and given them the phone number and the rep would have been able to look up that he has a Verizon account and activated the phone on his line for him.

Perhaps. It just made it easier on his end. He wanted to make sure the UDP transferred over. In my case, I did exactly what you said above.

So here's a bit of an odd issue.

I ordered a basic phone from the iconic portal to get a basic line I can use for upgrades. The phone was sent to the wrong address, and the person who received it sent the phone back. I called Verizon and told them this had happened, and the rep said she would cancel the order.

However, when I go to my account, I see a second line listed, but it's not tied to any device. It's a basic line and they seem to be charging me for it, but no device is listed. Furthermore, they haven't refunded me the purchase price of the device.

Now, I don't mind not having the basic phone. I only wanted the line for upgrades anyway. What I do wonder is if this will cause a problem when I do try to do an upgrade on that line. Any thoughts?

Is the line eligible for an upgrade? Or do you mean transfer your UDP line's upgrade to the basic line?

yes.

I've looked this up but only see old discussions on it. Anyone have luck porting their number off of AT&T to VZW and keeping the AT&T line open somehow? I'd like to move my existing ph# to VZW but keep the AT&T grandfathered unlimited plan to sell/give to someone else.

It's quick & painless to port your number from any carrier into verizon. Now keeping your AT&T line active is a good question. Have tried contacting AT&T to get an answer to that issue?

How do we get to the iconic portal?

I think the issue is that as soon as AT&T receives the port request they cancel the account, while Verizon waits 24 hours and lets you change your mind. There's a Google Voice trick that works with Verizon but not AT&T for this very reason. If anyone has figured out how to do it, let us know. Lots of us would be interested.

They do a license scan though, right? I thought it HAD to be the primary person on the account? Does anyone else have info on this?

Signed up as an account manager today and successfully picked up my first iPhone, didn't need the wife. Just an FYI if anyone else had the same question :D

Jules, step back from the ledge, it will be ok! I promise! Only a few more months and you'll have the Nexus:cool:

yes.

These lines will be on contract for 2 years so no upgrade for 2 years. Are you asking if you can pay full retail for an iPhone next year? yes, that doesn't affect UDP.
Jules will I get charge for etf from Amazon if I suspend the line without billing?

Nope, used mine. My name was listed on the scanner beneath hers for eligible people to pick phones up. Check this out, I think it might be new? I had some sort of authorized status before, but I don't think it had as many privileges.

Oh ****.... Add A Line. Now to find poor soul to lend me his SSN.

No. You can only suspend for a while.
