This is really low of Pay Pal and all these other companies attacking Apple. I think the reality is they're envy how Apple can take their time to come out and use a technology and still keep a huge fan base, even if they introduce that technology a couple years late. Shame on Pay Pal, I'll never use their service again.

I just completely disagree with the bashing of another company, it seems very childish and also when a company tries to make me feel foolish for even thinking about using a competitor is a complete turn off and they can pretty much guarantee I will not be purchasing their products anytime soon.

I am with many others that the main/only reason I even use PayPal is the lack of competition in that market. Give me options and let me choose.

Lastly, I am looking for an alternative to PP just because you can not purchase anything having to do with firearms or they can/will terminate your account.
A fully assembled firearm from gunbroker, ammo, firearm parts, etc .... you use PayPal and they notice, your account is gone.

Paypal has multiple issues not even tied to security. The reason why there is a lack of trust in Paypal is due to their shady policies and lack of communication or being able to resolve problems with their system adequately. Once you throw in their compromised security measures, Paypal has essentially become a "loan shark" type company that processes transactions for larger fees without the proper customer service or insurance/ability to resolve conflicts. Why would you want to do business with a company that has no respect for it's users and has no stable communication methods?

Could Apple not sure them for libel at this point? It's been said enough times that it was a user-end breach, not an iCloud vulnerability, so clamoring on about Apple having weak security when there is substantial evidence to the contrary seems like defamation to me.

Not to mention the photos were stolen from all different platforms--not from Apple users specifically.

What a downright misleading slogan, that will unfortunately probably be effective. Dirt always seems to stick.

I've not heard of iCloud having been compromised. Only of some celebrities (lucrative target that they are) having their inadequately protected accounts hacked due to weak passwords, and/or lack of two-step verification used, hardly Apple's fault.

You can bet your bottom dollar that :apple:Pay must have passed the most stringent security assessments by banks and credit card issuing companies, or none of them in the right mind would have signed on, much less allowed 'card not present' rates for the merchants signing up with Apple's new payment initiative.

The main benefit of ApplePay was for NFC payments at brick and mortar locations. I'm not sure why PayPal would be so nervous as to do attack ads on Apple since they operate solely on online transactions. Sure ApplePay can be used online, but PayPal is more prevalent and offered as an option in many many more places. I use PayPal and have no problem with them buying things online. In fact I prefer to use them for online payments. Now I can't wait when ApplePay becomes available in Canada, but I believe the two can co-exist quite well. So chill PayPal baby baby chill.
paypal takes more of a percentage and really has no competition till now.

All the publicity over leaked celebrity photos is great for Apple users. Apple will work that much harder on security.

I wonder how long before we see TouchID on Macs...

Yeah, with Paypal you don't have to worry about someone stealing your money from your account, since it will be frozen long before they get a chance.

Regarding alternatives, I've played a little with Dwolla

PayPal stopped my friends payment once, for security, and was made pending or needed to be claimed back by my friend to his account. He was not given a notice about this. Well, after a certain period, it goes to limbo, he could no longer claim it. Not the receiver or the sender got the money, it's just simply gone, $140. So basically they stole it.

I stand corrected. Okay maybe they do have a reason to panic since ApplePay will only take a small %, minuscule by PayPal standards. This will definitely raise the eyebrows of those retailers doing business with PayPal. I can see negotiations with retailers "go south" as those contracts come due with PayPal.

F___ PayPal.

Only reason I use PayPal is due to a lack of a decent alternative. PayPal sucks, everybody knows this.

Most definitely sucks. There is even a web site filled with gory details and horror stories. I stopped using them in 2000 after they froze my account with no warning and no explanation. 14 years later i never got my money returned and they claim they have no records going back that far.

This is particularly ironic given that literally within the past seven hours I was having a conversation with someone that PayPal was evil, but there wasn't really any other choice for sending money to someone, particularly internationally.

I was also noting, at the same time, that Craigslist scammers have apparently moved from trying to mail you a forged check or money order to offering to pay via PayPal... which they will then cancel once you've shipped the item or their local accomplice picks it up, effectively robbing you with absolutely no recourse. Because PayPal basically could care less about fraud, it would seem.

I've gotten three different attempts from separate scammers all trying to pay via PayPal from just one Craigslist listing for a laptop.

I bought something from eBay two years ago and only a day later, someone helped themselves to nearly $1,000 from my checking account, thanks to PayPal. I had to jump through all kinds of hoops and wait over a month before I got my money back and all the while I had to borrow money to make ends meet.

Yes, PayPal is super secure

Yeah, if apple pay works the same or faster for customer and charges even half the fees, even retailers dependent on paypal will push customers over to apple, reducing paypals income.

apple has been playing the long game and now the "areas of great interest" are blindsiding every company in its path.

PayPal: "Apple isn't safe so use our Paypal app. On your IPhone. Oh wait. Nvm. "

Stupid potshot ad appealing to the ignorant. Does anyone think Apple didn't think about security with their Pay product. And is Paypal problem-free?

More likely it will be offered alongside cash/slew of credit cards/cheque/Lindin Dollars/Apple pay/chip and pin/whatever else.

Granted there are many people (sellers and buyers) that dislike or distrust PayPal enough that they are desperate to find a widely used replacement. I think this will have likely primed the market in Apple's favour.
