I might be in a minority here, because most seem to be slamming PayPal or blindly defending Apple, but this isn't that bad.

It's tongue-in-cheek and slightly amusing. If you didn't understand the selfies comment or you'd missed the entire internet talking about JLaw minus her clothes, PayPal's joke would mean nothing to you. It's not harmful or insulting. It's funny.

Samsung has left a bad taste that shouldn't be extended to other companies. Samsung's advertisements aren't very tongue-in-cheek or funny. They are mainly just videos poking fun at Apple users and employees to try and steal them over to their products.

I love how they put "buy almost anything" on their ad. Yeah right.
Paypal is one of if not the most restrictive acquirer in existence!

Do you know how many new online vendors have accepted Paypal, started building up some sales and then BAM, funds frozen by Paypal never to be released, all because the store was selling an item Paypal doesn't "approve" of, even if it's not illegal or anything like that!

Don't ever donate using Paypal either, they'll freeze all funds because they don't "approve" yet again!

And oh god, the eBay crap! I won't even go into detail as many members already have, but suffice to say I hope :apple:Pay destroys Paypal!

"We the people want our money safer than our selfies," reads the ad first shared by Pando Daily. "PayPal, protecting the people economy."

"Safer" my arse. A mere four months ago:

eBay hacked, requests all users change passwords - CNET

CNET said:
eBay said it detected the hack two weeks ago and engaged in forensics activities to determine what database was compromised and what was stolen. The company narrowed down the attack to "a small number of employee login credentials" stolen by cyberattackers, which it said provided access to eBay's corporate network.

CNET said:
The eBay hack could prove to be the biggest security flaw to affect users since last year's Target data breach. That hack is believed to have impacted 110 million customers and left personal information -- including names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and debit and credit card data -- open to hackers.

This ad cracks me up. First it was a user issue, not an Apple issue. Second, PayPal has had exponentially more security issues than Apple has.

Thanks for the free laugh PayPal.

PayPal must be feeling very insecure and weak.

The photos that 'leaked' were not an iCloud or Apple problem but rather they were a result of user error.

PayPal has the same thing and real security breaches. This is more like a case of the pot calling the kettle black coupled with the pot feeling old and worn out and maybe just a little cracked.

PayPal is ...

just like the Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show; where homer does not get paid.

I cancelled my paypal and ebay account a few months ago when it was discovered that ebay was hacked and tried to sweep it under the carpet until it had no choice to come clean publicly.

Paypal/ebay never bothered to reply to any of my emails for confirmation regarding my personal details i.e name, address, phone and date of birth were stolen. So I had no assurances from them that I would not be a target of identity theft now or in the future.

The nerve of PayPal/ebay to attack Apple when their security is even worse and can't be trusted to advise customer when a breach actually happens. I will never use their service ever again.

Oh, I should *publish* my 97 page PDF of "evidence" when I got scammed selling my MBP and it took me an entire summer and threatening legal action to get my money back. And yes, it was 97 pages of emails, faxes, scans, etc. The worst summer of my life. It led me to close both my eBay/PayPal accounts. So when PayPal tells me something, I immediately discount it and move on.

Paypal is the worst company I've ever done business with. I know of no one who likes them. They should be very nervous.

I will dance upon their graves.

Well, this isn't strictly accurate. And while that annoys me, pretty much all ads are misleading about something. I think the real take-away here is that PayPal makes much more tasteful attack ads than Samsung. I feel like they're poking at Apple with this, not at me as a consumer.

Suddenly I wonder if I'll be able to add my PayPal card (basically a debit card, issued by PayPal, powered through MasterCard, that's linked to my PayPal account) into ApplePay.

(lots of singular words with double capitals.)

Could Apple not sue them for libel at this point? It's been said enough times that it was a user-end breach, not an iCloud vulnerability, so clamoring on about Apple having weak security when there is substantial evidence to the contrary seems like defamation to me.

That was my first thought too--really unfair and close to libelous--very annoying at the very least to put the blame on Apple for weak user passwords. I've always hated PayPal and this just adds one more thing to hate about them.

god you guys are crazy. if anyone disses your baby (apple), you get all negative. but you will bash it left and right when you get the chance. Samsung, windows, paypal, google.. are there any others that you all hate?

ZacNicholson, it is not windows, it is Micro$oft! LOL!

We don't hate those companies, they just hate Apple because Apple has got it going on like that! Don't hate the player! Hate the game! :apple:

I'm not sure you will be able to add your PayPal card to ApplePay because PayPal would cause an unwanted security hole! :D

Not really. The ad doesn't specifically mention Apple or any other competitor by name. Nor does it say that security breaches are anyone's fault. It's just a general "we think payments should be safer," which purely on the face of it, few non-thieves will disagree with that. So there's lots of wiggle room if PayPal is pressured about it to deny it was a jab at Apple.

The thing is, PayPal isn't really doomed. Apple still doesn't have person-to-person payments down, and that's where PayPal excels (and why I can't really cancel my PayPal account anytime soon).

About time PayPal had some competition.

Never did like it anyway. Life was so much easier when you could just pay online with your credit card. Then PayPal intervened and made it painful.

Hopefully Apple Pay will be a strong rival for PayPal.

Go :apple:! :)

Weak passwords + popular target = you're going to be "hacked" (more like compromised), regardless of the platform.

It wouldn't of mattered if the celebrities (from the recent icloud leaks) had the most secure password in existence since the hackers exploited lax security in Apple's password reset system.

Actually, the biggest issue was Apple's lax security in their password reset system and the fact that iCloud backups ignored 2-factor authentication. So while it wasn't a hack, it was helped by Apple's poor security. Of course Apple said they weren't hacked, but quietly started fixing these issues in their system which were necessary.

Paypal has a most terrible customer service. Takes me months to get a reply after I ask for help

Exactly! I just tried to add money and got 2 $25 charges after they changed their website...nobody home, can't add money, can't use card, time to use a regular credit card!

As a former heavy Ebayer, I hate PayPal with a passion. Very unscrupulous company. The most annoying feature is that the default payment on Paypal is your bank account, not credit card. This cannot be changed. You have to manually chose credit card every single time you want to pay with your credit card. PayPal in essense is counting on ignorance of the user in order to gain a free, interest free float. It costs you nothing to pay with a credit card, and you can often earn airline miles or whatever perk is associated with your card. PayPal wants to avoid paying credit card fees, i.e, it wants to make its life more convenient at your expense.

Over-react much? It's just an advert. A slightly amusing and clever one at that, poking some fun at the competition. Apple do this sort of thing all of the time. This holier than thou attitude that rabid Apple fans have over adverts nowadays is hypocritical and unjustified.

The Paypal ad is untrue in two cases:
- Person that owns the twitter handle @n lost his twitter account because of GoDaddy and Paypal ( https://medium.com/@N/how-i-lost-my-50-000-twitter-username-24eb09e026dd )
- The ad sort of implies that iCloud's security is less than stellar, leading to theft of selfies which isn't true.
