Again bashing a service that doesn't exist is just plain wrong and smacks of sour grapes.

I have to say though when dealing with money and bank accounts there are a lot of scummy people who game the system, apple pay will pretty much crop out those cheap lower life guys and create a more profitable area of transactions for apple, it's going to be a success from the start if you can buy online like PayPal at every major online retailer with apple pay. I get the feeling apple will miss the online game for a bit and settle into retail to find their feet but they really need online to be as easy and ubiquitous as at pos terminals

Years ago when I was selling quite heavily on eBay, PayPal just took it upon themselves to place what they called a "rolling reserve" on my account where they would literally help themselves to an additional 9% of every transaction made for 90 days. This resulted in them holding several thousands of dollars of mine for no valid reason as if they were a bank but not paying me interest on it. So it's almost like getting hit with 3 fees per eBay sale, eBay's 10%, paypals 2.9%, and then this additional 9% that you have to wait 3 months before you get back.

Screw them and I hope Apple drives their business into the ground.

 This is a great ad!

Right on time to remind everyone why Apple Pay is amazing news. And rekindle a universal hatred of Paypal. How stupid are these people really?

If Apple implements some kind of javascript API for this, Im all over it for my online store. sooner rather than later would be a good thing.

:D:apple:

Hahahaha

Paypal/eBay is rubbish. If I want to sell anything on eBay I get charged 10% for a final valuation fee, and then Paypal charge me some percentage for taking the money. And they also get revenue from showing ads on my listing!

I stopped using eBay for anything but the most necessary sales, and even then I hate their guts. Lucky you if you don't ever have to go through their dispute system.

Bring on ApplePay. Simplify and clarify.

(I have no idea what the cost will be to accept payments in the same way with ApplePay , but it can't be as bad as Paypal, surely?)

Wrong. PayPal is in a lot of brick and mortar... Just bought some stuff from Home Depot last weekend and didn't have to pull my wallet or phone out, just typed in my mobile payment pin and was done. There are also many stores/restaurants that allow you to order through your phone, or scan items as you walk around and pay via PayPal without having to wait or stand in a line. I really enjoy it myself, and I don't mind that PayPal is taking a few jabs... Good for them for rising to the occasion. Nobody here should be hurt about it.

I think what people are trying to say is... PayPal can't be a hypocrite. Yes in your instance there might be a paypal in your local stores but that is not the case everywhere. In my case, I haven't bought anything from EBay because I was forced to use PayPal and if PayPal was trying to make my life easier, they failed. Id rather spend the extra seconds pulling my wallet out and swiping my card then using paypal's rigged system.

It only wants to make me support the underdog (Apple in this case). That wasn't the most innovative ad. If Apple Pay will make life easier, I will gladly support them...with my first and future iPhone6 Plus

Really, don't they know the fact is the leak was because peoples passwords were targeted, Apple didn't cause the leak it was individuals and could happen to PayPal as well if someone gets a hold of you details.

I'm usually not one to cheer for comanies coming in and putting others out of business, but this is one time I hope Apple Pay completely decimates PayPal and puts them under, for good. While I myself have been lucky to come out on the right side of selling some phones on eBay, many many others have not. And thats just one instance of how awful they are.

Weak passwords + popular target = you're going to be "hacked" (more like compromised), regardless of the platform.

Your formula is incomplete:
Weak passwords + popular target + unlimited continuous system tries = you're going to be "hacked"

My last memory of Paypal is 3 months after an eBay auction was completed, a buyer filed a claim saying they never received an item. I supplied Paypal with Signature tracking information, showing positive feedback from the buyer and still they found in favor of the buyer costing me a fair amount of money. That was the time that I canceled both my eBay and Paypal accounts. They should be the last ones talking about this.

closing my ebay and paypal account now.

Over-react much? It's just an advert. A slightly amusing and clever one at that, poking some fun at the competition. Apple do this sort of thing all of the time. This holier than thou attitude that rabid Apple fans have over adverts nowadays is hypocritical and unjustified.

I walked away from eBay a couple years ago after being the victim of a few fraud attempts. Beside I find that Amazon has better prices on new stuff. Unfortunately, I still have to use PP for one annual transaction.
Bring on Apple Pay I say.

PayPal support is awful. I only use them on eBay and online stores I don't want to give my card info to. Although I don't think they are all that secure givin how eBay gets hacked.

Just heard, for the first time ever, Paypal advertising their card reader on the radio (UK). Coincidence? It's on sale too!

Paypal today locked me out of my 14 year old account as they didn't like a listing I had on eBay...

I've had to provide 25 different proof ids of myself, my business, my statements, invoices for the items I had for sale, proof of my domain names, proof of my address. All stuff they've had 14 years ago that is the same!

No only that but they have a section I can't get past where I have to prove the items were delivered. I haven't sold the items yet, so when I click to "resolve" it there i nothing for me to select, clicking continue tells me I have to select one of the items in the list...the list of no items. Incredible.

Paypal and eBay really are incredibly diabolical companies who every time I work with them on something or another remind me how horrible the experience is.

Its peeved me no end that since eBay started, like Googles search (even more so) there is just no viable alternative. Paypal also has a bit of a monopoly (obviously where eBay is concerned) it would be amazing if Apple allowed us to use Apple Pay like Paypal in the future with slightly (even 0.1% less) lower fees. I'm not sure if thats in their plans though.

PayPal sucks. They make money for basically doing nothing and yet reaching customer service is near impossible and when you do reach them they're not helpful.

Would love to see Apple crush Paypal.

Paypal is an un-American company, refusing to process payments for companies that happen to deal with firearms. I have had many of my clients (not only firearms companies) have to deal with funds being held by Paypal. F___ them. Horrible company, horrible morals, horrible service.

Personally, I have not had any issue with PayPal. I have had several annoyances --

1. It always tries to charge directly against my bank account instead of what I have stated in my preferences that is to use my credit card.

2. When someone wired me money through PayPal, it took several days for them to actually deposit it into my bank account.

I don’t want to use my bank with PayPal, I want to use the credit card that offers some insurance if there is fraud versus giving full access to my bank. I don't want to keep money in PayPal. I want a brick and mortar bank with a safe and armed guards.

I have been using square as that goes through the credit card, but the security still did not seem perfect. Apple pay seems like it may be the perfect compromise between convenience and security/peace of mind.

Of course, we will see what happens in a month.

This hypocritical tripe from PayPal has so angered me that I'm closing my PayPal account today. Hope they sink.

Went to Square for CC transactions in my daily business dealings because of better rates. Will most likely use Apple Pay once it becomes available in Canada because it will be cheaper for the retailer to use.

Paypal is hopefully no longer in the drivers seat when it comes to online & CC payments and dictating the terms on how it is used and what you pay as a seller in fees. Would love to see the seller getting a little bit of power back over the scam artist as well that have been using Paypal as a free for all.

May take some time, but would love to see them take a financial hit. They will still probably always think they are number one, but maybe Apple may be the one company that is big enough to finally cause Paypal some grief.

As for them making fun of Apple and the stars photo breach, "REMEMBER THIS PAYPAL", it was only in April of this year I had to change all my Ebay and Paypal passwords because your sites were compromised.
