:Hops in the wayback machine:

I had a Dell Inspiron 4100 at the end of High School/college. I loved it then (was still a super windows buff), but was it ever ugly. I remember seeing the 'customizable' wrist rests and LCD back, but they all seemed so cheezy.

The thing that irritated me wasn't the looks so much as it was the quality. Overall the laptop lasted barely two years as stuff kept on breaking. The casing cracked and things came off. (To be fair, I was rougher with it then my Powerbook/MacBook Pro. Young and wreckless  )

The laptop got very hot, so all the rubber foot pads would fall off because the glue would deteriorate in the heat. The removable ram plate cover had a black paint finish that just started to peel from the heat as well.
These were minor compared to the real problem. Case Design. The mouse buttons and trackpad area were too high. They physically touched the screen when closed and ended up destroying the screen. Physical indentations that make the screen appear white in that area.

I must say, while some people do get issues with their macs, I think the pc notebook folks get it worse, both in looks and quality. >.>

i've gotta say tho, my brother's HP laptop is rugged, taken a proper beating, my other brother's Dell tho is flimsy and poorly built...

... but you would take that extra care in a macbook/pro, much nicer machines

Hehe...I have a 4100. Its my stationary SVN server now. The thing isn't heavy..just really really thick. The reason why I like the MPB over the others is because of all of the different colors etc. MBP everything blends and looks great.

Steve is defffff. like 349867057406854809760547690574695406870547 times cooler than bill gates.

I think what you should have said is that Jobs is 349867057406854809760547690574695406870547 MegaFonzies cooler than Gates.

Although this humor doesn't translate well across international cultures, anyone who has seen the TV show Happy Days knows what I'm talking about.
Heeeeeyyyyyyyy. ;):D

On topic, though, I dont care much for the 1330 because of its wedge design. I find it deceiving because of how the back end is much thicker than the front to accommodate the battery. I find the uniform thickness of the MBP, et. al. to be much more appealing.

Not all PC laptops are ugly.

I still think apples laptops are boring. Whats up with the 1 button trackpad?

Thinkpad FTW. Any laptop with trackpoint FTW!!

The Vaio lineup has always been about looks. Their new slimline laptops are pretty nice looking, and some even have half height slot loading BD burners ;)

While i like my MBP, I do think the design needs some sort of update. And for the love of <insert religous figure here> Apple give the pro laptop a freaking docking station already :(

I don't know any decent looking laptops apart from Sony Vaios. All other brands feature same boring design.

I agree, Vaios are nice.

I think docking stations are horrible.

The MBPs look fine. I don't think they really need a cosmetic update. Hard to improve what's already nearly perfect :)

I've seen this beast up close and personal, and it is a serious Bladerunneresque mo'fo':D

I think docking stations are horrible.

Maybe, but it's so much more convenient for me to walk into my office and drop my fugly Dell D810 into its docking station than to faff about with attaching mouse, keyboard, DVI cable and ethernet cable then disconnect them again when I have to into a meeting or it's time to go home.

The bottoms of them are especially ugly. All those stickers and fan vents. Just gross. I am looking at a HP and it looks like a laptop made from a used child seat.

XPS line has nice designs, but are them reliable?

I've heard the only type of Dell notebook that is reliable would be the business class laptops.

As others have said, Vaios are nice. If I was to purchase a PC notebook I'd go for a ThinkPad or a Vaio.

Not half as purely about looks at the expense of everything else as the Apple lineup is.

Other unbelievable news just in. Cheap laptops are worse than more expensive ones.

I think PC laptops are cheap and cheerful. I mean, sure, some look nicer than others, but you would be hard pressed to find something less angular in the PC market to match the curves of the Macbook. Viaos are nice, but they ARE Sony copycat products against the Macbook Pro.

After all, you've got to realise - they can look as nice as they can, but they'll still be running Windows. Big deal if it's diamond encrusted, it'll still trip over its own shoelaces.

If I was go get a PC laptop, it would have to be a Sony or a Voodoo featherweight.
