Installed it twice, but the Peacock app crashes on my iPad Pro with iOS 14 public beta. Can't sign in on ATV. Not a good start.

lmao, a monthly fee PLUS ads? And for what? Maybe a handful of content worth paying $0.99 for. With any luck some of the streaming services will fail and get rolled into one I already subscribe to. Otherwise, it's only TV and not essential.

It's more about resources. I live in the Philly area (where Comcast is based) and I am an iOS Developer. Xfinity is always looking for iOS engineers. I know a few that went there, couldn't take the corporate atmosphere and eventually left. So, they are throwing the iOS Engineers at the "priority" projects and let the other projects with less importance fall to the wayside.
I mean, you sound like you would know that better than me - but it still seems hard to believe that a huge technology company such as Comcast would experience such a resource problem of iOS developers, to prevent development of what must be a highly-desired app for a significant user base.

Same here. I can log in on the website, iOS app, but none of my Apple TVs. It tells me it doesn’t recognize either the username or password. 🙄
I am using the website to stream to my Mac mini but I can't watch the full length.
The error message says "Try disconnecting an external monitor" - which is silly since the Mini needs an external monitor to watch....

BTW: I can only watch the previews and trailers fine.
When I click to watch the episode or movie, I get this::

Funny, my desktop PC which uses an external monitor works fine!

For Premier League fans, I Just received notice that the NBC Premier League Pass will be going away and all games will be streamed via Peacock Premium. (Damn, that name.) Seeing as the league pass cost $60 through NBC Sports Gold this season, the Peacock Premium annual pass at $50 is a no brainer for me.

EDIT: Starting next season, I should add.

And with the launch of Peacock, there's finally too many streaming services.
More to come. "I only want to pay for the channels I watch!!!" was heard and this is the result.

Another service, they couldn't all just keep their content on Netflix or work together to make a unified platform. Nope, dozen different services and apps each wanting to charge you.
They were going to but turns out cable has already been invented.

Also from the article: The third tier that is ad free...

It was literally the next sentence after the one you selectively choose to read/quote.
And if you read NBC's page it says even with the top tier "some" shows/movies will have commercials due to contractural reasons.

I think there will be backlash because of the name.. protests.. riots.. The bird community will be in an uproar and demand a name change.. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂
Looks like about half the people on here have no sense of humor lol.

I browsed the catalog which I am glad they let you do before subscribing as I always pay for the ad free version I refuse to use ad supported versions. There is nothing worth watching unlike HBO Max which I do subscribe to as they also let you browse the catalog before subscribing.
They need to show the catalog of content you get if you pay. Of course there is a trial period so it's easy enough to find out.

Wait for the butthurt replies, they're coming.
He's already got a pretty goo stack of butthurt thumbs down and angry emojis. They need to add a stompyfoot emoji, that would be cool.

I contacted the PeacockTVCare help on Twitter too. Hoping they fix this soon.
I wonder if they are just getting slammed with signups? iOS let me register but my "welcome's" email is about 30 minutes late.

Thoughts / initial impressions -

The 'Cock is finally here!

As I've come to expect from other NBC streaming apps, dear God the bad UI almost has to be on purpose.. Yikes!

My initial take is that the 'Cock UI is purposefully designed to confuse users, especially older users, into thinking what they want to watch will require upgrading to one of the paid 'Cock tiers.

For some shows/content that will be true, of course?

But have already fielded a couple of emails and phone calls from confused customers asking if things that should be obviously included in the Free 'Cock tier require upgrading?

I had one customer who couldn't find the one show on the 'Cock they actually want to watch? (Dale Jr's "Lost Speedways")

Oddly enough, (considering how much it's been promoted by NBC to this point) you do seem to have to hunt for that title in both the iPhone and AppleTV 'Cock apps, but when I linked Peacock app to the AppleTV app, and selected Peacock (in the AppleTV app), "Lost Speedways" is one of the first shows to appear?

Now, is this the AppleTV app, knowing me so well, to show me something motorsports related? Or, just an odd coincidence?

As far as content goes? Meh? I'll be watching "Lost Speedways" and the new "Psych" movie? "Brave New World" looks .. promising? Besides that, I don't see anything that will have me using it much? I certainly don't see anything worth paying for on the 'Cock?

YMMV, no warranty expressed or implied. If you notice unusual itching or swelling while using the 'Cock, stop immediately and call your doctor.

I had trouble with the log-in as well? It took three tries (and rebooting the AppleTV) but the login credentials I'd set up on the iPhone app did finally work?
I thought I was having trouble as the initial email hasn't arrived, but I just opened the iOS cock app and it's fully functional. Between this(free),Disney+Hulu,Amazon,my local library's two streaming services and free DVD/Blurays to check out, plus all the other free streamers and free YouTube I'm happy as a pig in slop. Luckily I don't follow sports, and have watched very little TV before becoming disabled, So there is more great content I missed the first time than there are hours left in my golden years LOL.

I have Peacock Premium (with ads) included as a Comcast internet customer. So far, the ads have been very little. Definitely, digestible unlike Hulu and other services. I certainly would not pay for Peacock Premium if it was not included because there is little original content. Further, since the ad experience is relatively unobtrusive, I would see no reason to upgrade to the no ad version either.

No need to watch the hulu ads if you have an Apple TV, I won't say how to get around it, but it is not that difficult

It doesn't seem to have everything we thought it had. Just for one example that my GF was looking forward to, Chicago PD only has S7. Amazon has most seasons for free, and a couple of the later ones are pay to view. WTF Peacock, what are we paying for, from NBC....

Only 8 seasons of Law and order also

"Oops sorry, we had to do it, the contract says so", as if they have no control over contract terms. Taking any bets on whether all future shows will have that contract term?

Using Safari browser on a Mac Mini with Catalina OSX.
It's funny that the error message says "Try disconnecting an external monitor" when a Mini uses an external monitor to view.....

On my PC with external monitor, it works fine using Chrome browser on Windows 10 1909.

Tried it at home with Apple TV and works flawlessly.

While watching 2 different movies, no commercials - not even one!

Streaming reminds me of when personal computers first came out. There was Trash 80, Commodore 64, DOS, Atari, etc. Once the Mac came out we were left with Mac , Windows and Unix. I hope some of these services consolidate over the next few years. Haven’t made the jump to streaming because it seems it would get more expensive then cable once I get the services I want plus the internet that Comcast controls.

The fact is that in my area Comcast and Verizon control the home Internet. Seems once I cut the cord they will just raise the Internet and/or put a data limit on it.

Doesn’t have Friends or Seinfeld and won’t. The Office not until next year. Hardly what you’d think an ideal NBC streaming service would be.

Another service! This means a ten page thread of people acting as if they're being forced to subscribe. Can't wait.

I wish them luck but I will not be getting this.

They are too late to the game and don’t offer anything compelling enough for me to pay an additional fee to watch their content.

I think this applies to most of the streaming services :).

I’m gonna bet, “no”. From what I’ve seen, that hasn’t happened on Hulu. One of the shows I watch (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) has contract-required ads, the rest don’t. (FWIW, it plays with one 15-second non-screaming ad before, and a second one after - the latter, obviously, is quite easy to just simply quit - I haven’t found this to be a burden, certainly nothing to get outraged over, though many here did when the show debuted on Hulu years ago).

The streaming companies likely aren’t thrilled to have shows require this, because it mucks with their ability to say that they are offering an ad-free service, and that engenders precisely this kind of backlash, which drives some subscribers away. They’d rather have customers happy (enough) to continue subscribing to their most expensive tiers.

I expect the mechanics behind such a contract are that one of the corporations involved in the show (not the studio that owns the show, but rather, in turn, someone it contracted with during production, could be an actor, a writer, an effects house, or whatever - and these also have to mesh with contracts that those people/companies, in turn, have with various unions, guilds, subcontractors, etc.) long ago negotiated a contract that stipulated, as part of the payment, X% of the ad revenue whenever the episodes are shown (likely expecting normal broadcast TV levels of ads), so there has to be at least some ad revenue.

So, contrary to what you suggest, sometimes contracts do come with terms that are not negotiable, because the show owner has to abide by the contracts it signed in order to get the show produced.

Hollywood contracts can be convoluted and Byzantine, not just in and of themselves, but in the layers upon layers of contracts signed in order to get something produced. All sorts of things go into the negotiations that you wouldn’t expect, off the top of your head. (Source: in a different lifetime, I wrote payroll software for the film/TV/entertainment industry - it was... much more complicated than normal payroll software, because we had to be able to accommodate all these different rules and stipulations.)
