I think some of these posts reveal a lot about the state of today's rampant consumerism. I've seen it a lot lately in my own life. People have lost patience and virtue and it's like we've devolved into a bunch of kids crying for lollipops. All I hear is I WANT IT NOW MOMMY!

It must suck to think you're so right and so entitled all the time.

What a bunch of whiners. Last I looked, Apple is making money like crazy. They want to give a coupon away then they should and some losers on here want to slam people for calling to complain? The reservation system was screwed up, but people on here that were able to get one reserved are upset that others get $100 off. "Consumerism" my butt. Oh, coupons are destroying America!

People seem to have NO patience now. That's my most frequent observation about the Washington D.C. area. Everyone is rude, everyone is in a hurry, and no one cares for one another. It's really sad that selfish seems to be a part of life for most people.

the reservation system was not screwed up (I got mine just fine). There was simply much more demand than anyone could have foreseen. any sane business will estimate sales of a new product to be at least equal to its predecessor. hell, if they wanted to be generous, they could have estimated the preorders to be 2x that of the 3gs. there's no way they could have foreseen 4x that amount.

We are in a difficult economic times. I would not necessarily say people are selfish. They are just adjusting themselves to the environment they are in. Sometimes it's good, or it's bad.

Very selfish of you to lack understanding of others need to get something done.
You live in D.C. get used to it or try Montana.

"need to get something done..." yeah...if you're talking about an iPhone, you need to get your priorities straight. umm...sarcasm...?

I live in D.C. because I'm in the military and I am stationed here, thanks though, I'll be leaving as soon as possible.

I can understand what you mean there actually. I do think it's a locational thing though. When I lived in New Mexico a lot of people seemed to have the attitude that they were happy for what they had, regardless of what it was. People were generally just nice to one another. Around here everyone seems to have a sense of entitlement about everything around them. In such a diverse area, I'm ashamed that people don't seem to care for one another anymore.

this is fake because if it was 100 off 300 purchase you wouldn't have been able to apply it to a 299.99 order. tax doesn't count. I know because I've tried using a coupon for %20 off 100 on a 99.99 item didnt work.

Ok I got the 100$ coupon. Talked to customer service and then to a supervisor. After about 2 hours of talking I got it. When the email sent it said not good on iPhone but I tried it and it worked. Here is a screeny!

And I think it is worth it that I get it in a couple weeks late.

Congratulations, I would have paid you $100 to get you off the phone at that point! (just joking!)

I tried and got nothing. I may try again. Did you call a specific department?

to answer both I called my apple, got the first person, laid out the situation, somewhat sternly, and said right up front I know there is a coupon that has and is available to supervisors and would like to speak to one about this.

They pass you on and then you go from there.

@3Goldens, what did you dial? I've been calling 1-800-my-apple since yesterday morning and they flat out say they cannot take my call now and hang up automatically. How did you get through the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system?

I got the same thing but just kept hitting redial, finally got thru, hit 1 then 4

I would like to see an apple representative or Jobs himself do a public apology on national news stating that it was all Apples fault due to a lack of preparation.

Steve Jobs did try to have a press conference last night but the networks were all busy covering the President's speech about the millions of gallons of oil floating in the Gulf of Mexico.[/QUOTE]

I dont think it was Jobs fault, rather ATT which has been kind of substantiated at this point. The hic up being the ATT part of confirming eligibility....or so I thought.

This forum needs an auto-merge! dang, you couldn't put some of those quotes and comments into one post!?

For those who got the 100$ coupon, did u purchase iphone already or after the coupon?

anyone who takes up this offer is just abusing their customer service. i swear, some of you apple people think the world owes you a favor. did you ever stop and think that maybe why it's taking them so long to process things is because they're busy dealing with complaints like yours. it's your own fault for not getting your order in right when it began.

Your flat out wrong pal. abuse is having to read your response to being given terrible service.

I am guessing if you found a hair in your pie at the local diner you'd eat it and leave a big tip.

DO not stand for substandard service when company charges premium prices and advertises themselves as having the best customer service in the world.

It is sickening that a few of you are getting rewarded for being a whiny bitch. Congrats I guess?

and shame on you for promoting substandard service.

again, it's your own fault for not preordering as soon as it was available. don't be mad that you're not getting it the first day like i am. what's funny is that you still support this company that has substandard service and charges premium prices

for the record, I called and spoke with two separate agents both of whom were not aware of coupons/discounts being given, and I did mention (in a professional and polite manner) that I'm a long time customer and shareholder who spent over five hours being hung up on by their automated system and totally shut out of the web pre-order system.

Expecting something for nothing is exactly whats wrong with the world. Every one was in the same boat, every one had the same chance to either get/not get through. To expect apple to give you anything because YOU chose to spend you day clicking on a pre-order button is ridiculous.

I'm sure some of you will get pissy with what I just said but I don't give a hooties cow.

No that is not true. This launch was completely botched or dont you know how to read. Not assigning blame, the bottom line is customers were totally inconvenienced, put out, frustrated, angry, disappointed after being let to believe they would be able to easily order, not get, order a phone. that was not the case.

I for one would happily compensate my customers with a small token discount if they felt compelled to call and express their dissatisfaction.
Apple is very well off, they can easily easily afford this. Not worried about them going under any time soon. Now BP is another story!

Were not talking about an escrow account here with 20 billion dollars now are we, were talking about some coupons for merchandise people are going to buy in the on line store and within a certain time period.

Whats wrong with the world today is that people like you accept mediocrity and don't stand up for themselves when you get screwed.

Yes because they have excellent customer service, and by the way I will be getting it the same day you are!

And to your other comment I I started calling at 7 am.

continue to accept mediocrity and that is what you will get!
