Penryn iMac and Mac Mini Updates Soon?

To all you guys that have local Mac stores, how about you all be useful and try geting some hints from the store workers, like ask them why they are low or out of them, and see if they got any upgrade time hints. Who knows, you might be talking to DeepThroat! :D:D :apple::apple:

Management likely knows when the new items are coming because they need to keep track of their stock. But I expect they have some serious NDA's which prevent them from talking to "the staff" about it, so I bet they don't know (in general) until the delivery truck pulls up to the loading dock with the new product.

I get a pretty good feeling right now. Tomorrow IS the day we have been waiting for. I am sure of it. Seriously, let's just pray all together, maybe Steve will hear us. :D
<10 hours left...

What time does the Apple online store usually go down when they are releasing a new or updated product? Midnight U.S. Pacific time?

UPDATE: Well, it's just after 1 a.m. U.S. Pacific time. The U.S. online Apple store is still up. Guess there's no update, again.

if new iMacs are being released it will go down closer to 4:00am pacific time, like it did last week when they included Final Cut Server.

it's believed when the store goes down closer to Midnight it's for routine maintenance, whereas when the store goes down in the early morning hours (4am-6am PST), they are releasing something, as it generally has been historically, but not always.

When they updated the MacBook Pro/MacBook in february, and MacPro / XServe in January, the store went down earlier (Midnight - 1:00am PST) and it was down for 4+ hours. perhaps for both maintenance as well as updating... but no one really knows.

about a month ago the store was down nearly all night, around 6 or 7 hours, and nothing at all was released, and there were no new store design changes...

if the store goes down tonight, check to see if all the stores have gone down besides the US store... if they've all gone down, then they're releasing new iMacs, MacMinis, Displays, or whatever hardware that is sold worldwide expecting an update. if it's just the US/Can stores, or the UK/France/Germany stores, it's going to be either something very very dull (like Final Cut Server now shipping!) or routine maintenance.

also, it feels very quiet on the boards tonight - not many posts or replies... feels like the calm before a storm ;)

ok, i was about to buy the 24", 2.8 extreme the weekend passed. but i got a call from a mac insider (friend who works there in UK). he told me to wait for 2 weeks, when the new imacs will be out. date was to be 22 of the month, but it got a 1 week delay. release date is 28 of the month. mot much comparing to the time you all been waiting for it. thing is, even he did not know what the new things on it will be. it's just a mystery. :(

no... it's often on tuesdays, but not always... September 2006 iMacs were released on a wednesday... and just a few weeks ago the Air Port Extreme came out on monday...

Wouldn't they put (quad cores) in the MP Pros before the iMacs?

Apple might put them in the iMacs first because it would be easier to cool and no worries about power.

However, I would imagine the new MacBook Pro case design will take quad-core CPUs into account.

Actually quite logical.

Apple will report earnings for this quarter on April 23. Never will we see any serious update before this, as this will confuse the analysts. So the update has to wait...

That actually makes sense. So, Tuesday, April 29th?

It looks like Apple is updating the GPUs for old Mac Pros today.

Spoke to friend, floor/shop design head in one of their major European shops. He's heard nothing about iMacs for ages. Agrees they must be due a refresh, but not a peep on any of the normal internal channels.

Though everything's very secretive, there's usually a pallet of boxes in the store room for a week/couple of weeks when new stuff is imminent. Only top management are allowed to open it (wowee!).
No pallets, no management buzz, no 'reorganisation of display tables or windows' etc on the horizon. Guess it's going to be quite a while (June?)

Ho hum.

I have an inside at macmall they still have a lot of mac minis
and imacs. They are apples largest reseller. End of the month is realistic.

all this waiting is getting out of hand...

I agree. I think am going to get an imac tomorrow. And if they update it on either of the following tuesday, I can take it back and get it exchanged, because of the 14 day return policy.
And if they don't update them, I'll just have to deal with it. the one out now is more than adequate. I would just be a bit annoyed that I dont have the newest thing possible.

I agree. im going to buy a refurb and use the saved $$ to max out the ram. that would give me a better performance im sure than if i had just bought a newer one with the standard ram.

good bye tax return!
