The refurbs on the UK store have a special limited time price drop.

Could that be another clue?

Gutted!

Im so gutted that i didnt think the update was going to come out this early. I ordered my Imac last week and should be delivered this Monday. ONE DAY before the update! Also it was a custom order (Wireless keybaord and mouse) so cant do much about it.

I am so gutted! Will there be any major updates to the model?

I know obviously they will upgrade the processor to Penryn, which i guess aint that amazing as theres hardly a difference when using an Imac. But id feel cheated if they upgraded the grpahics card.

Cant believe i got my timing so bad.

Anyone got some good thoughts i can think when tuesday comes around?

thanks

honestly, am i the ONLY person who knows about the MacRumors Buyer's Guide on this site?

to all you people complaining because you just ordered an iMac, it's your own fault.

Please. I have an iMac 24". Paid $150 for a 4 Gig kit from datamemorysolutions.com. If you can unscrew two screws and push a card in a slot then you're qualified to do your own upgrade. Apple made it vitually idiot proof. Just don't leave plugged in and hit the power button while sliding in the RAM. And when you pop out the "APPLE RAM" you'll notice a no-name brand of RAM chip – Yamma-Gotcha RAM products!

Re-read the post. He's getting OWC RAM but doesn't want to upgrade the hard drive himself. Very understandable.

I think the imacs won't be out until spring. If they were to update the imacs, they should have updated them with the macbook pros.

Uh? Next tuesday IS spring.

What makes you think they SHOULD have updated iMacs with MBP/MB?

He said he doesnt want to upgrade the HD himself, which is A LOT harder than changing RAM. BTW, AL iMacs have only 1 screw on the RAM slot door :p

Now, to all those who want matte display:

iMac has a glass panel covering most of it's front side and not only the display. Even if you stick in a matte display under it, it would still appear as glossy, so they cant make an option for matte without significant redesign of the iMac's front side. Is this so hard to figure out? >.>

Some iMac Refurbs Sold Out

Like several folks here, lately I've been watching the refub section at Apple (I'm in the market for an iMac). I was tempted to buy a 24" 2.4 when they showed up in the refurb section, but have decided to see what the next update looks like. FYI - as of this morning the 20" 2.0 and 24" 2.4 are no longer in the refurb section.

Maybe more will show up when and if updated models are released next week.

re: The mini won't get updated

The mini won't get updated

Based on past observation, Apple uses the Mini to run out their stocks of laptop components.

Apple will only update the Mini when they run out of Merom chips.

Depending on relative sales, this could be a while.

Someone mentioned warranty repairs. Laptop processors don't get replaced under warranty - it's not worth it as they're soldered down. Apple will give you a new laptop or Mini (or replace the entire mobo/processor if they have any left) if somehow your processor blows while under warranty.

When the macbooks / MBP / iMacs move up to the Montevina mobo in the summer, Apple will again use the last of their Santa Rosa mobos in the Mac Mini.

You admit that the current Mini hasn't yet been updated to Santa Rosa, right?

So how will they "use the last of their Santa Rosa mobos" in the Mini "in the summer" if it "could be a while" before "they run out of Merom chips" and actually update the Mini?

MBP v iMac

I was originally waiting for the new MBP's - now that I have had a couple of days to digest the update, I can see clearly that there is no point in me getting one, and it makes more sense for me to get an iMac.

So as soon as it is updated with new processors, and hopefully a bigger video card, then I will be picking up the 24" immediately.

The MBP update isn't essential for me - and the difference in actual performance seems tiny at best, and I would rather wait 3 - 5 months and get a brand spanking new redesigned MBP.

So I really really really hope that the iMac gets a boost within the next 2 weeks - people are right, it does make sense for them to do it sooner rather than later now that Intel are calling all the shots ;)

Oh God, it begins! Guessing new iMacs every week until they eventually show up. Spare me.

For those users wanting a Mac Mini update next Tuesday I am with you. That poor machine has been left high and dry for a while now.

Maybe Apple will update them both, or make the Mac Mini a silent update.

Shoot... maybe they will give us the Mini Tower we have been clamouring for all this time.... ever since the Cube faded away.

Likewise, $900 for the Apple 23" display is steep. You can do much better elsewhere.

Not really. The Apple displays are much higher quality than the average big box store displays. The cheap $300 displays have awful colour-shift and gamut restrictions. If you don't care about that, get a display at a big box store, otherwise, get the Apple display.

My friend just ordered an iMac 3 days ago.
Today, he got an email saying that they dropped the price for one of his parts and therefore they are changing the total price of his order.
So this must be cuz of the upcoming update, right?

Apple recently changed their rip-off RAM pricing to slightly less rip-off RAM pricing. A week ago 4GB from Apple was $900. Now it's $500. OWC sells 4GB for $96.

Like miloblithe and eXan said, I was referring to replacing the Hard Drive, and I also referenced that I purchased 4GB of RAM to install myself. Thanks you two.

Now... does anyone think they'll ditch the Apple Remote with this model too?

The Dell 2408 is higher quality than the two year old 23" ACD and can be had for $300 less. I'll be picking up two when I get my Mac Pro in March. The $600 I save will go towards increasing the ram from 2GB to 16GB. :apple:

To you it's overrated, but for a lot of people with appparently more sensitivity to reflection and glare, it's a big issue. I don't know why so many people here are so quick to write off the complaints and concerns about this. There are clearly two camps of people: those whose eyesight allows them to ignore glare and reflection and those whose eyesight doesn't.

What the heck did those people do for the first 25 years of home computing?

CRTs all had glass screens. Did they just suffer for years util the first LCD screens came out? I must admit I never had a problem looking at a CRT.

For those posters that can't get to this idea out of their head.... remember that there are some users with Titanium books, Powerbooks, old PC laptops, Dual 1.83GHz MBPs (remember those) and even the really akward 2.16GHz MBPs with a 3GB RAM cap. So these books aren't that bad of an update, especially with 512MB GFX cards, MT, and 17" LED hi res displays.

Not much from the previous update yes.... but a big jump from last year's, or the year before, or the year before that, or back a generation or two of G4 chips.

I do want a new design though, so hopefully that will come with the next update. Will those books be screamingly faster than the previous model?.... I don't think so.

Tell me about it. Now that everyone has a point and shoot camera and a boot leg copy of Lightroom they are suddenly "Color Specific Professionals"
