didnt apple brick all jailbroken iphones at one point?

i read that somewhere and that kind of turned me off of the whole idea, but i would LOVE an nes emulator.

Hardware is as sensitive to being re-flashed a lot as it is to being dropped on the floor, you have to remember that firmware flashing is a processor intensive thing even if only for milliseconds this type of operation has the potential to short any of the tiny tiny components of any piece of electronics.

It's not that sensitive.

Every time you store anything on the phone... text, photo, contact, game state, bookmark, etc... you are flashing the main memory again.

Every time you sync up, or do a recover, you are flashing the memory.

And even though the type of flash that Apple buys is only good for 5,000 reflashes, it's not an issue for the limited use it gets on the iPhone. (Possibly one reason to not officially have video recording.)

Is it possible to unlock the iPhone 3g without Jailbreak or using those turbosim cards? just curious, I have jailbroken an iphone before

No. In order to unlock, you have to modify the iphone base system, which you can't do w/o jailbreak. But if you aren't interested in using other jailbreak features, you can just unlock your phone and not install anything.

not that i recall

yeah i just went and looked it up back in september 07 there were talks that updating firmware with a jailbroken iphone would brick it, but it looks like it never actually happened. i dunno, i like my phone the way it is, and theres only one thing that really pisses me off about it and thats that the safari browser is marketed as a full browser, but doesnt have flash support. do jailbroken iphones have flash support?

I have alway asked myself why some people refuse to jailbreak their phones. Can some enlighten me?

It is a reliability issue for me. I have to have the phone component work all the time if nothing else. If it does break down, I already have AT&T and/or Apple to deal with. I don't need to add myself (i.e. the jailbreaker) to the list. :)

When Apple starts releasing a program to tether via USB cable I won't even thinking about jailbreaking. But on this thing they are in the 90is. If I buy a fairly expensive phone I want to do the basics with it, the things phones that cost 1/3 as much have as standard.

I wouldn't do it if i were you

i literally jailbroke my iphone the otherday
features went missing
and the icons kept moving around when i wasn't using it...
also cant hang up phone calls
phone app doesnt work closes when you open it
I Don't think its worth it...

All the Best

You did something wrong, or installed a corrupt firmware

Unlocked or jb? Assuming you mean jb, the vast majority of people do not have the problems you mention.

Having both a 1st and 2nd generation phone, I can say simply because I have never felt a need to do so.

My experimental hacking days are for the most part behind me. I am not really interested in turning my iPhone into a guinea pig for 3 frat brothers in a barn. I actually depend upon it to help me run my business, and having something untoward happen that required my time and attention to revert at an inopportune time simply was never worth whatever program someone might have been offering out there.

Short answer my phone is more important to me as a tool that I would not risk/sacrifice it for the chance to make some homemade icons, ringtones and wallpapers.

If I was at a time in my life where my iPhone was just a toy then I would probably have no problems jailbreaking it and playing around with all the programs available... but again.. not a toy.

i had a jailbroken ipod touch and i liked being able to customise the outlook of the ipodtouch im not one for apples bland backgrounds and icons so i jailbroke my phone for just that purpose in my opinion you cant beat a super mario brothers sms layout screen and monty python sms sounds but to each his own.

if you jailbreak thats fine if you dont thats also fine, what ever makes you happy with your iphone

you dont need to JB to make custom ringtones

Great post, I'd say the majority of non JB'ers would be wholeheartedly in agreement with your thoughts.
