Apple is introducing a software problem by taking an open charging standard like Qi and making it proprietary.
They should, that way others cannot steal the dev effort of others, that's why some companies, are involved, just to steal and cheat.

I'm pretty sure that's the goal of these articles.
Just to bring them down. Every year the same crap.

With Steve's departure Apple has dramatically changed. After 10 years of having relatives and friends working at Apple HQ i have seen them flock away to other companies in the last few years. The reason why iPhone 8 is going to be a disaster is because the lack of leadership and how most people who made Apple successful were neglected and replaced for half salary employees from other failing companies or countries. After 10 years of being an iPhone user, fan, and promoter i say bye bye to Apple. Scrap your HR department and be more careful to retain key senior employees.
Do you have any details of people hired from overseas?

Genuinely wondering if this might actually ship before Apple manage to get an iPhone 7 to me that actually works. Off to get my third replacement at weekend. Add that to two MacBooks that have died in under a year, including one logic board replacement after four months!

It seems there is a lot up in the air with this device. Whatever happens with though you can guarantee quantity > quality. That seems to be the Apple way these days.

I've seen today that trusted analysts have now started to claim the iPhone 8 'could' start from around $1300!!!!!!
If Apple do that, ditch Touch ID and instead have buggy wireless QI charging and facial recognition software... well I will be lost for words.

I don't understand why Apple "should" take the open standard Qi and make changes so it is proprietary. It is an open standard, there isn't any development effort on Apple's part. There obviously will be some effort in implementation but all companies face that. The only thing I can get out of that comment is you believe Apple is justified in implementing proprietary changes so they can sell a $100+ Qi charger and ensure the new iPhone won't work with other devices that otherwise meet the standard.

In this example it is Apple stealing the development effort of the people that originally came up with Qi charging and made it freely available. They are getting the benefit without paying a licensing fee and then in turn changing it to where customers will have to pay for proprietary hardware when the developers' intent was for the devices to work together regardless of who makes them.

Is there any legitimate reason (other than financial profit) that a $15 Qi charger purchased from Amazon shouldn't be able to charge the new iPhone?

This has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. There is no sense of awe in a panicked rushed fix. There will be a sense of screw this phone if it doesn't work.
Comment was the second highest liked comment on the article. You're in a small minority.

All it takes is a manager being overly optimistic. "Sure, we'll have it ready in two months, no problem!"

You know, like with upper management thinking that everything was okay with Maps before it was released.

The difference when Jobs was around, was that he demanded to see how things were going, and scared people into meeting deadlines :D
That's not quite the way software development works...

lol ... I've been designing hardware and software since the '70s.

Managers hoping for the best and not being aware of problems until too late, is EXACTLY how stuff like this (or Apple Maps or the Note 7 battery) happens.

Especially if Apple, as someone claimed, is like every other company these days and hiring cheaper kids and foreign labor, instead of seasoned (and more expensive) engineers, who are also more willing to speak up.

And in true Apple fashion they'll have the chutzpah to charge a premium price for shipping what amounts to a beta product full of bugs and missing/incomplete features
Like Bixby ?
When was the last time Apple shipped a product that was not ready for prime time ? an example ? infect Apple will delay the release of new technology even though other manufacturers use that technology if the technology is not developed.
This is how manufacturing works, product will not be ready till it is launched, if new technology was ready an year ago then they could have included that in last years phone.

I'm confused...most of those reports were correct. Apple did include Lightning EarPods with the 7, and the phone was waterproof. Even the part about "more expensive pair of noise-canceling" headphones was partially correct, because they released AirPods.

regarding lighting earpods: read the second part of that sentence:
"It’s more likely, our source says, that Apple will sell a more expensive pair of noise-canceling"
it implies that their source says it won't include lightning earpods.

regarding waterproofing: it's not water proof. iphone 7 is water resistant. there's a difference.

Persistent Software Problems With iPhone 8 Wireless Charging and 3D Sensor Causing 'Panic' at Apple
There will be certainly panic at Apple if they release that design. It's truely cringeworthy.

And how much of that 'software' is being made by contract programmers in India, or Ford knows where... There have been enough issues with 'Apple' software to make me wonder if they actually do any of their own programming anymore, or ever did, and if that is the case, they went with a lower bidder.

Steve was upset when he discovered that the Finder dev was is Ireland. That was years ago, now I also wonder.

There's a difference for pedants who want to show off their "knowledge" on internet forums. Literally nothing is "waterproof" under the strict definition, and the vast majority of people understand what it means in regards to the iPhone 7.

i'm not showing off. look at apple's website for the iphone 7. no where does it say it's "waterproof". they only mentioned water resistance. fast company either used the wrong term or got the rumor wrong. either way, they weren't right with their reporting which hurts their credibility. CNET and other well known sites are careful with the water resistance/waterproof terms.

This is interesting, it seems to at least confirm Apple are working on it even if it isn't included in this years iPhone 8 (or whatever they decide to call it) it also lists how fast the system is, working in milliseconds and is more secure than Touch ID. It would also be better and more secure than the facial recognition system that Samsung use for the S8, it seems Apple have been working on this for a while.

In any case, all these rumours are moot.
Even if all these are true, the final features of the iPhone should be decided by now. We are too close to the launch so I can't believe apple is still struggling with such core features.

As the prospective September launch date of the iPhone 8 fast approaches, designers and engineers at Apple are said to be working "feverishly" to fix software problems in the device that could lead to production delays, reports Fast Company.

Citing a source "knowledge of the situation," the site says there's a "sense of panic" in the air because should the problems not be resolved, the device might ship without major features enabled.

One feature that might be delayed is wireless charging. Apple is said to be planning to implement inductive wireless charging in the iPhone 8, but rumors suggest it will be enabled through a standalone charger purchased separately. As previously shared by Apple blogger John Gruber, Apple may not ship the inductive wireless charging accessory until later in the year alongside an iOS 11.1 update.

While Gruber didn't offer an explanation, Fast Company says software issues, not components, are the problem. If the software isn't ready, wireless charging could be unavailable when the phone first begins shipping.

Apple is also said to be struggling with the 3D sensor expected to be built into the front-facing camera, which is rumored to enable a facial scanning system that could replace Touch ID.On the subject of Touch ID, Fast Company's source believes Apple could still be working to add it under the display. Yesterday, a report from KeyBanc Capital Markets suggested Apple was continuing to struggle to put the fingerprint sensor under the glass of the device, and that the company had "just a couple of weeks" to solve the problem.

Though this sounds unlikely because new device designs are often finalized months ahead of production, Fast Company's source calls the report "plausible" and says "in all likelihood, the fingerprint sensor will be embedded under the display." The source also says iPhone features "can remain fluid until deep in the summer" ahead of an iPhone launch.

With multiple reputable sources (Bloomberg and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo) reporting Apple has adopted a superior facial recognition system to replace Touch ID, it's not clear how accurate Fast Company's information is, but given the number of conflicting rumors we've heard over the course of the iPhone 8's development, it's still difficult to predict exactly what we're going to see when the device debuts in September.

We've previously heard of problems with the display, the 3D sensor, and Touch ID, all of which have led to multiple rumors pointing towards serious supply issues. The iPhone 8, which will be sold alongside an "iPhone 7s" and an "iPhone 7s Plus," may not be widely available until late in 2017 or early in 2018 due to a later production ramp-up schedule, according to the latest rumor.

Not really care about wireless charging as long as the phone is redesigned and beautiful with eye catching and attention getter color.
