Apple won't release it until its perfect. If it takes time and there is a delay then so be it. It would be far more damaging to their reputation to release a product that is void of some of the functionality that we have being hearing about

I find this hard to believe. Why would Apple be at this stage with only a couple months to go until the debut... makes no sense and very poor planning if true.

All it takes is a manager being overly optimistic. "Sure, we'll have it ready in two months, no problem!"

You know, like with upper management thinking that everything was okay with Maps before it was released.

The difference when Jobs was around, was that he demanded to see how things were going, and scared people into meeting deadlines :D

Hard to believe this since other companies already has this working. Are telling us that apple software engineers are incompetent?

Why are so many of you buying into this rumor? First that there are all the problems with Touch ID and Facial recognition, and then that wireless charging doesn't work. And on top of that Apple is "panicking". At this point in the process, after potentially years of concepts and prototyping, now to manufacturing shakedown production, it's not too damned likely on any of it.

And you guys thinking this is some deranged PR rumor to lower expectations, you have no idea how PR actually works in a publicly-held company. Billions of investment dollars and pissed-off investor lawsuits make issuing back-channel "rumors" a very risky proposition. Complete silence is the preferred option when problems are being worked out, followed by talking about something else. At no point in any scenario do you even hint there is 'Panic" about anything.

wait till we see the price @ 1000$ +++ no way im paying for a phone such money... afterall its just a phone not a laptop.

With Steve's departure Apple has dramatically changed. After 10 years of having relatives and friends working at Apple HQ i have seen them flock away to other companies in the last few years. The reason why iPhone 8 is going to be a disaster is because the lack of leadership and how most people who made Apple successful were neglected and replaced for half salary employees from other failing companies or countries. After 10 years of being an iPhone user, fan, and promoter i say bye bye to Apple. Scrap your HR department and be more careful to retain key senior employees.

OK, maybe I'm not seeing it , but for Apple to release/announce the new phone, in maybe, in 8 or 9 weeks, this product is already in production. Any issues would have been worked out months ago for then to gear up the production line for a new model. I wouldn't think that any of the Apple suppliers could just change over in a few weeks.
When did Apple ever 'panic'? And now it's TC's Apple. It is what it is and what we get..Glad I bought an SE.

As always, there will be praise for the new iPhone Edition Special I'm Expensive, and others will have nothing but disdain.
"It doesn't have this"
"It doesn't have that"
"They should have done this"

So for those expecting the Holy Grail.....Not yet! Apple is going to do what it has been doing under TC...Overhype and underdeliver.

At least iOS has some promise....

(stepping down from soapbox)

What you say is true wrt hardware, OEM parts assembly etc... But iOS 11 still in Beta hence there may be areas where Software needs to be tested (more user scenarios with the updated OS, integration etc). Quality team would still have to test and approve the release candidate before actual launch happens. Good news is that all issues can be fixed since it is Software.

Apple needs to stop trying so hard. Steve is gone so they won't repeat that magic again. Just ship the phone with bezel, slap on the Touch ID 2, a better camera (front and back), and the usual speed improvements and some fresh new colors. People will buy it.

Yeah, they could always just reduce the top bezel. They might also be able to put the function bar around the touch ID sensor, thereby actually making that bottom bezel useful. I'd be more than happy with something like that and just wish they spent more time in making iOS a modern OS.

Apple is introducing a software problem by taking an open charging standard like Qi and making it proprietary.

It's called a financial solution. The problem solved being how to charge customers $150 for something you can get on Amazon for $30.

First to say... Apple first gen product, buy at own risk?

First gen? That was the old Apple. Buy a laptop with a GPU at your own risk.

I've used Apple since the beige G3's. The quality has dropped over time, comparatively of course to other similar hardware.

I think it all started when they stopped giving the different dongles away with their pricey laptops. These days you cant even connect an Apple phone to an Apple laptop out of the box.

The reason is the part of the business cycle Apple is in. The creatives are gone, the accountants are in charge. So every year they do more of the same, up the prices, cut the costs, and screw the customer.

A lot of big companies go through it, they get lazy and eventually fall behind. It is an odd world where I would rather have a Microsoft laptop over an Apple one and I'm not looking forward to having to pay out of the ass for a new phone when the 6 dies.

Apple should have simply released the iPhone 7s this year with a new standout feature like facial recognition, a faster processor, better battery, improved camera and a new color.

Now they have backed themselves into a corner, with both consumers and investors expecting an "iPhone 8" and a super-cycle.

These issues, along with the likely sky-high cost, might push me to go for the iPhone 7S Plus.

I actually think Apple, if they wanted to commemorate the 10 years since launch, should've never planned for an 8 series and instead focused on the X (and X plus if they wanted a larger body phone) whilst moving the 7 and Plus down a pricing tier.

This would've given them less new models to focus attention on and they could always have gone back to the S models for next year.

My read and this is backed up by "tester" posts like Gruber's, is that Apple are looking to introduce a new higher price point for the X this year, effectively introducing a new tier above what would've been the top level 7S and Plus in any other year prior.

This is a little greedy in my opinion given the size of the loyal base that has continued to buy their top model every year.

They will see just how tolerant these customers are to any price increase - especially if the rumours turn out to be true and they decide to launch the phone with unresolved issues and missing key features.

Don't force technology out, there is a plethora of bad examples out there with catastrophe like the Nintendo VR from '96 and HD-DVD. If its not done then its not done, they need more time maybe they can do a January release there is no reason they have to stick to September annual release they did this with the iPad.

There is no worse feeling than paying $500+ for a product that is defective or does not work properly.

You're completely correct to suggest a delay in terms of what is best for the customer - never mind Facial Recognition, delay and get under screen TouchID working.

The reason Apple may be in a mess though is they're attempting to avoid a postponement by having opted to go down the Facial Recognition route.

The pressure for a September launch is all to please those pesky shareholders etc.

This is really dumb! No touch id and Apple is failing to make 3D facial recognition work right. I can't believe this.

Apparently you do believe these rumors if you claim Apple is "Failing" at 3D Facial recognition. It's a rumor. It doesn't prove anything. Believing what you read on Macrumors doesn't make it reality, hence its a rumored website.

There was a long delay between the iPhone 4 and 4S. I think Apple made a mistake by staying with the September launch schedule. They should've gone back to releasing units in June/July to give them enough cushion to have the phones ready for the fall and holiday shopping season. I would delay the launch until they can get Touch ID under the glass. Facial recognition is inherently not secure and fingerprint sensors on the back just aren't as practical. Most likely we will see an Apple version of the S8 and next year see the product that they actually wanted to release. In the Jobs era things were released on time and ready to ship immediately. Now we're seeing wait times of several months before they have steady inventory. You still can't just go in and buy AirPods after being out for 7 months and nearly 10 months since announcement not that I want a pair.

It would seem the iTunes team has been working on the phone.

It would seem that Apple has serious issues with software development overall. It's been abysmal for years now. They either have too few people, underskilled people, or management and scheduling problems (or all of the above). They push new product out too fast, so I suspect that's the biggest problem. It's all because Apple of today is ruled by Wall Street mentality, not the goal of making great products.

LMFAO!

The amount of rumors is ridiculous. Maybe let's just wait and see what the phone actually is lolol.

Lol, there wasn’t even the VAGUEST panic when iPhone 7+ shipped unable to do the bokeh blur (until a later update).
All this “THE SKY IS FALLING” rhetoric is true hilarity.

Hard to believe this since other companies already has this working. Are telling us that apple software engineers are incompetent?

No. Most likely Apple is trying to develop a working solution which enables them to avoid making
Copyright Payments. I could easily see Timmy's obsession on this. :apple:
