"Qualcomm have had under screen tech for a while too."

Clearly you didn't read this bit... UNDER SCREEN.

Qualcomm didn't have this tech "for a while" and it's definitely not ready for mass release. It's a tech demo on a trade show, not something that can be released on millions of iPhones. I know Apple is using their own version, but Qualcomm and Samsung can't get it to work under the screen reliably and fast, so it's not that strange if Apple can't either.

...
Well at least some of the money goes to a charity. Making our world full of rainbows and butterflies that's exactly what we're getting soon. Thank you Tim you're the best!

Butterflies do matter because they indicate a healthy ecosystem. Sorry mate.

Educate yourself before you broadcast your ignorance with glee, because if we are "getting soon a world full of ... butterflies" I am all for it.

And that is regardless of my own, TC's, or even your political leanings.

I'm sure it will be fine. Who knows what news is real these days with how apple seem to be clapping down on leaks.

I read that just fine, I'm just a bit confused about what phones this tech is in? There is loads of technology knocking around that "works", its just not in a state that can but stuck in a smart phone without compromising something else really important. If apple put an under screen touchID sensor in their phone they will be first to market.

I don't know if this is a Tim Cook thing or not but the aggressive new-every-year phone timelines seems to be putting a hamper on innovation due to the restrictive timelines. They could have been working on this a few generations back and if so, then they either need new talent or they need to find innovative features inside the OS to hide their lack of hardware innovation.

If I get most of the things rumored I don't mind waiting longer. Does anyone remember when the white iPhone 4 wasn't up to snuff and it launched something like six months later? Unfortunately this stuff happens, and rushing a product can have dire consequences. As much **** as I've given Apple myself over the years, it's undeniable that they have a huge task ahead of them with production alone, should rumors be true.

I mean, I'm a little impatient because my battery sucks and I am actively looking for something on the horizon. But I'm fairly sure it will be the next iPhone (assuming it's not $1k starting point as has also been suggested) or the next pixel.

Sounds like nonsense to me.

Yet none of those things were popular until Apple brought them to market. The people that claim Apple has done nothing noteworthy in years are just naive.

I mean personally I have no idea why people say the original iPhone was a game changer. They didn't invent the phone, the text message, the internet, touch screens, mp3, speakers, microphones. We don't care who does something first, we can about who is the first to do it well.

TouchID popularised fingerprint sensors in phones and was/is the best implementation of it at the time.
Siri was the first mainstream phone assistant in a phone
Apple was the first to create a mobile app store that was actually good and made them a **** tonne of money.
Haptic feedback has been around for years yet apple have done it better than anyone else and integrated it into their hardware in a meaningful way. The magic touchpad is amazing.

Saying that apple just made these things popular / common is massively underselling the fact that they took these basic ideas and executed them far better than the competition/existing solutions.

I really wonder why a website for MacRummers even bother republishing or quoting this! After all these years you should know these are just ********s. It just makes your website more high profile if you say no to publishing these. Publish what matters and from a valuable source.

Execution is key. It's that old saying, the sum is greater than it's parts.

No way Apple delays the iPhone 8 significantly past the first of October. If it is going to be more than a month late I would look for the September launch to just be about the 7S. All mentions of the iPhone 8 and AMOLED devices will be swept away just like Satya Nadella did with the Surface Mini back in 2015. Then, probably in March, we'll have a special announcement of the iPhone Edition once they get all the bugs worked out. It is already heavily rumored to be supply constrained so having an out-of-sequence device that will sell about 20 million for $1,200+ will give a nice little bump to sales and earnings.

Then we'll see a return to normal in September 2018 when AMOLED devices are introduced in all three sizes and LCD is deprecated to the cheap option.

Apple would be miles ahead in the long-term to kick the new device down the road 6 months to a year if it isn't perfect. Sure you would have some negative press about the unmet expectation, but that would result in slow sales for the 7S for one model year only with anticipation for the new devices continuing to build. A half-baked release resulting in a ton of customer complaints, or worse yet a recall, would be devastating to Apple's reputation for a much longer period of time.

Its like apple have a team of 5 guys working in a basement building the next iPhone. "Phew guys, lets have a few days break now we have released the iphone 7 and then when we get back we will have a think about the iPhone 8".

Apple have thousands of people developing hundreds of new ideas, trying things out etc. There will be stuff being tested or researched that might not ever make it into a phone ever or might not be seen for 3 years +.

I really wish that all the people who are throwing their toys out of the pram were somehow banned from buying the new iphone when it comes out. All talking about these "issues" as if they are anything but complete BS

I am going to place all the blame on the Russians, they are meddling in everything now. I am sure someone had a meeting at some point in their life and somehow the Kremlin knows about it and now we are seeing the results. No software for the hardware. /sarc

What about the rainbows? Won't somebody care about the rainbows?

Apple needs to stop trying so hard. Steve is gone so they won't repeat that magic again. Just ship the phone with bezel, slap on the Touch ID 2, a better camera (front and back), and the usual speed improvements and some fresh new colors. People will buy it.

Apple should have simply released the iPhone 7s this year with a new standout feature like facial recognition, a faster processor, better battery, improved camera and a new color.

Now they have backed themselves into a corner, with both consumers and investors expecting an "iPhone 8" and a super-cycle.

These issues, along with the likely sky-high cost, might push me to go for the iPhone 7S Plus.

Don't force technology out, there is a plethora of bad examples out there with catastrophe like the Nintendo VR from '96 and HD-DVD. If its not done then its not done, they need more time maybe they can do a January release there is no reason they have to stick to September annual release they did this with the iPad.

There is no worse feeling than paying $500+ for a product that is defective or does not work properly.

I think this is fake news released by Apple. It creates a sense of awe when they announce the phone and all of the features are enabled.
This has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. There is no sense of awe in a panicked rushed fix. There will be a sense of screw this phone if it doesn't work.

and those 5 guys can't do any work unless Tim is there in the office with them :)

Look at the name of this website, now look at your post. You truly don't understand that MacRumors posts..... rumors? If they would really only post something from a fully credible and checked source, they would basically not be able to post anything and they would just have to wait for official announcements and nobody would ever visit this site.

I find this hard to believe. Why would Apple be at this stage with only a couple months to go until the debut... makes no sense and very poor planning if true.

Panic at Apple? They should just release it in 5 years from now given its already outdated before it even got released. Note 8 will already have wow'd consumers as with the s8.
