Has anybody asked Phil why Apple chose NOT to support "HDR" Video Playback with its new 16" ?

500 nits Brightness is strictly SDR !

One would think that for the Coin Apple wants for their new 16," they would have included a better Display !

Would have been happy with 725 nits, but certainly NOT 500 nits !
Personally I would NOT settle with ANYTHING less than 726 nits. An absolute abomination.

amazing laptop, I wonder why they keep only a 720P facing camera on it though and does it have FaceID yet?

I'd be happy with apple just getting rid of the damn thing if it would mean a cheaper device or a bigger battery for longer use time.

And of course no word from Phil, nor from those early "reviewers" about Apple completely screwing customers like me, who bought refreshed version of 15" just about a month ago. It even had that "new" badge in their online store up until yesterday!

All of them are comparing the new 16" MBP to the "last gen" but nobody tells you that this particular last gen was quietly refreshed just 2 months ago and has the same processors, being otherwise in many aspects an inferior machine for the same price (don't get me started on those keyboards).

So, I could basically have the new 16 with a 1 tb storage and better graphics if I just waited one month? But hey, they kept the same price! How gracious from you Apple using your customers as cash cows once again!

And special thanks Apple for your transparent and fair roadmap of products. And for such completely natural interviews in fancy lofts with youtube "influencers". Exactly what I needed. ☁︎☄︎⌁⚡︎☠︎
If you're near an Apple Store, stop by and speak to the manager (Have your receipt etc)., they might grant the exchange.

Every time this happened to me, the Apple store I frequent always granted the exchange. Be nice and give it a try.

TouchBar is the only bad thing about the MBP 16" I can think of right now. We will see if they are gonna integrate it into the next version of Magic Keyboard. If not, I'm convinced it's gonna be removed in the next few years. You might get use to use TouchBar, you might even like it sometimes, but Pro users I know are all using keyboard shortcuts, because it's still faster than using TouchBar for most tasks. For me, the TouchBar is something what makes more sense in consumer focused devices than in Pro devices.

I'm sorry, but I have a REAL problem with Phil's tone there and deciding to take that particular tack regarding Chromebooks.

Phil - you work for the "jewelry company" of technology products.

You guys don't do ANYTHING to make a legit MacBook even remotely accessible to schools for anyone but kids in the very upper middle class and beyond.

If Apple actually cared about this, they'd do more than push gimped iPads as the "education option for schools". Also, those iPads are still in fact expensive and luxury relative to other tablet options.

Phil - you guys do whatever you want at Apple - fair enough - but spare us the "shots" at others who do actually make something that works, works well and is affordable in more mainstream educational circles.

They do this all the time, 100% will work. It’s practically their own unwritten policy to do this.

Never thought adding a physical ESC key will be the highlight of a laptop. Everyone is talking about the ESC key more then it’s performance.

If Apple cared here, they'd do more than push gimped iPads as an "affordable School option" - Mind you, even those iPads solutions are still very expensive and luxury relative to other tablet options.

Keep in mind this is Apple's head marketing chief talking. His sole purpose in the organization is to spin positive news and direct jouralists to Apple products.

Take it with a grain of salt when he's talking about the butterfly keyboard "continuing" or the future of Chromebooks.

He is completely 100% wrong about Chromebooks in the classroom. He said the iPad works better. OK, just try and write an essay on an iPad. The glass keyboard is not that good. Maybe for very young kids who don't do much reading and writing. You need a real keyboard for real work

Have you ever tried to read a PDF version of a textbook on an iPad? You have to do a LOT of horizontal and vertical scrolling. On the 15" Chromebook the PDF formatted page works well enough.

Chromebooks run real web browsers too.

Finally, my experience is with high school students but if you ask students to do something on a Chromebook they can gt the right to work. But they are not nearly as productive on iPads

The Chromebook is very much like a Mac actually. I prefer them to any Windows 10 PC.
Completely disagree about reading books on iPad. Works great for me. Chromebooks are nice cheap web browsers and they do that well.

Hey Phil - I think the Touchbar is the #1 complaint about the Touchbar.

He says people struggle to transition....which is a totally skewed perspective! He is trying to "control the narrative".

The fact is I struggle to understand why a transition is warranted in the first place! That is why i didnt buy one...

The existence of the touch bar still bugs me, but the no ESC was the specific deal breaker, along with keyboard. So i will probably upgrade in lieu of doing repairs to my late 2013...

Where is this quote from? I dont find anything like that in this article.

All he said was "I can't say today. We are continuing both keyboard designs."

The Air and 13" Pro still use butterfly, so that response is just stating the facts. He says nothing about future designs.

I can imagine that several people's number one complaint about the Mac Pro will be its price. I wonder if Apple will listen and address the desktop market in the $2k to $4k range.

And another thing: Apple seriously needs to bring modularity back in some form, even if they don't offer it on all models. If I spend over $2k on a notebook, why on earth can I not upgrade it (SSD/RAM) when the time comes? Boggles my mind.

I'll clear some things up:
-If price is your concern, set your sites on a cheaper Mac or a PC.
-The Touch Bar is here to stay.
-Legacy ports (non-Thunderbolt 3) are never coming back.
-Apple Notebooks will never be upgradeable. If you want that then by a PC and upgrade away.

It really is a waste of time to hem and haw about these things as they will change.

Phil Schiller pathetic as always, trying to dismiss and minimize the huge 3-year failure with the old keyboard. Rather than complain about Chromebooks, look at your own line of MacBooks that are the joke of the industry.

In the good news,
Better base models specs (16gb-512ssd). I guess they realized we are in 2019.
New magic keyboard, still to be tested.
Better battery
Better monitor resolution.

In the bad
Still the same useless touchbar.
No MAG-SAFE
Is it still the case that RAM and SSD are not user upgradable?
Still soldered components that makes it a disposable appliance?
Still limited to 4 ports. Actually 3 if you use one to plug power.

As much as I need to update, I will pass since bad outweigh the goods and due to the simple issue that RAM and SSD are not user upgradable.
It is quite ridiculous that RAM and SSD cannot be upgraded in a 3 to 5k computer.

I've played with the Touch Bar a few times on friends MacBooks (who like it) plus I've played with it in the Apple Stores and always wanted a MacBook with it but I have a 2013 MacBook Pro, 2012 Air, 2015 Air and a 2017 MacBook , plus a 2014 Mac mini so I was struggling to justify it. But I think the just released 16" with 64GB RAM and a 4TB SSD might make a nice replacement for my 2013 MacBook Pro and I will finally get a TouchBar :) .

Key word is "played". That is what it is for, playing...

I dont want to be super opposed, because maybe i will find a use for them....but i cant imagine what i need it for.

I rarely use the function keys, but when i do, it is reassuring to always find the volume button right where i left it!

He’s right on the Chromebook. Chrome is a powerful tool but remains a terrible option for anything creative.

Drawing, video editing, music production, animation and even just your basic document creation* is so much richer on an iPad and combinations of all these technologies can get students to create wonderful results that no web app can hope to come near.

*Pages is a million times better than Word and Docs.
