why would an android user join this forum if they had no apple products?

I've had a string of macs, and have a few ios devices. I now use an android phone by preference, because it's better.

Maybe the increasing number of android users here is just an indication that apple need to wake up and compete better in the phone/ios space?

bingo!

You can "find your iPhone" the next time your phone is stolen. Does the Galaxy also come with that feature, or do you need an app for that?

I'm not sure. But how hard is it to install an app. Is that really a make it or break it feature. That the find my iphone feature is part of the OS? Is that really what makes the iPhone a better choice/experience? Please tell me there's more.

I wonder if he's actually owned and used an Android device and is speaking from experience or just going with the stock knocks against the Android line?
Obviously the latter. His line about needing 8 different accounts was so out of touch that it should make investors nervous about what's going on at Apple, why they don't know anything about their competition.

Meanwhile, Apple will release the same freaking phone again, with a few minor tweaks.

"Timmbbbeeeerrrrrr!"

I edited that out, as I realized it was another person who said it before you. But seriously, is the fact that I said you repeated it the only thing you can refute? Do you ACTUALLY have evidence that all Android fans come here to bash Apple instead of spending time on their forums? Or are you just fabricating a bunch of nonsense? My bet is the latter...

How's the windows 8 phone treating you?

And even though the incompatibility lie keeps on going, I have used many items that don't mention mac compatibility or insist on PCs that the PC will go searching for drivers online that are never there but the Mac just starts it right up.

I have a Sony Camcorder just like that... and it said Win compatible on the box...

What iMac are you using? And the OS? Have you ever tried to use Win7 on a slightly older PC? I did that to my 3-year-old old computer and it was so sluggish...

Both have their faults, I guess.

I use both an 2009 and 2012 iMac. One is running Snow Leopard. The other Lion. And I've used both Vista and Win7 on desktops/laptops.

I understand why you might ask the question. Unfortunately - none of that info changes my experience.

Both Macs and PCs are machines. And their respective OSes imperfect. Things happen. The best experience/machine/etc is completely subjective to an individual's use case.

P.P.S. Oh. Yes. Minor but still nice: Sammy includes very good headphones (earbuds) with the Galaxies. Unlike the Apple's included cheap *beep* - because they want you to cash out $80 for their earbuds.

W-what?

Apple includes their EarPods with the iPhone and iPod. Which maybe are not the best headphones out there but they sound very good still.

They don't suffer? Have you ever even used a mac? I have been using one for a year now and I can really see how PC are fragmented. Macs are about great user experiences, not the highest benchmark(but a high one, of course).

I don't deny that OSX is a good experience, but can you name some fragmentation issues that you have come across on a PC? For reference, a common complaint on mobile operating systems is applications. I can't think of a whole lot of applications that cannot run on Windows 8 versus Windows XP, and there is over ten years of disparity between the two. Most newer games require higher direct x version comparability (that XP doesn't have), but aside from that, I honestly can think of nothing.

Yes and thats why your getting your ass kicked by Android.

I have owned the S3, Nexus 4 and the Note 2 and i can tell you fragmentation hasnt hurt my experience one bit.

PC's are fragmented to hell and they dont suffer. In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Dont tell consumers its for their benefit you make the hardware and software. Its for your profit only

Why is this state of mind represented as rational, and an Apple fan is a semi-religious cultist? You like Android. I can see the differences, and it's very important to you.

We're only getting our "ass kicked" if you regard sheer numbers and numbers of phones, without pointing out what the bulk of the Android market is. Except for Samsung, nobody but Apple is making money on Android. That's you know, kind of significant.

See, the Apple model isn't the same old monopolistic model as Windows was in computers. But we're doing okay. For my life, I much prefer what Apple is likely to put out. C'est la vie.

I think it's proof positive that Phil posts here under one of these names in this thread and others... Because the same FUD/Crap that appears on MR in threads is right there in print coming from his mouth.

You seem very emotional over this issue.

What? Emotional because Apple feels it has to have a well knows executive publicly slam the competition with a huge bunch of lies as opposed to try and actually innovate? Or change iOS in 6 years?

No not at all emotional, the same as he is doing the same thing that many on here attack anyone else doing against Apple.

Let's see..."1984", "Lemmings", "I'm a Mac"...yes, in ads too.

Well I was being sarcastic because there were comments re: Samsung's superbowl commercial that made it seem like Samsung was sad for attacking Apple (even though they didn't say the name). And yet...

From my experience, I see people moving AWAY from Android and towards iOS/iPhone/iPad.

I do not see much of that in Germany.

I have seen some Android users going to iPhone. And vice versa.

But. But I have also seen huge masses of dumb-phone/etc users switching to Android phones. The comparison with the feature-phones in the RTFA isn't wrong: Android devices are in more price niches, compared to the iPhone. Android has literally wiped out the feature-phones. Recently I have also seen some Samsung and LG Android-boasting devices (my colleague got one as a BD present) which are really more of a dumb-phone and are only useful as dumb-phones - but are very very cheap (street price of $150 or less). Price flexibility is something iPhone doesn't have at the moment.

Of course not. But that's one of the features that many iPhone user will have right out of the box while only android users who knows of a certain app can have. Just saying.

Exactly! Seems like I keep repeating myself lately but I guess some people are just too stubborn. The days of Android being a joke are over. Most of those still bashing it have either never used an Android device, have bad memories from years ago, or are just repeating what they read in some fanboys forum post.

I am not loyal to any brand. I work hard for my money and spend it on what gives me the most of what I want. Android phones are Awesome. I am able to do so much more with Android then I ever could with iOS. Apple has become stale and boring in a lot of areas. I wish they would stop feeding fanboys with rhetoric and instead get back to the drafting table.

If Apple only cared about profit they would write software that works on all devices and advertise. Hey that's what google and Microjunk do!

Schiller is just blathering about the competition in lieu of having new, exciting offerings to talk about.

Neither he nor Tim Cook have anything to say other than "intense discussions" are underway. They blather on about Apple TV / return more of the cash to shareholders / Mac Pro / exciting pipeline / not managing for short term stock fluctuations.

Non stop blather....

Then I think the issue is whether or not users know that iphone has this feature and/or android does not.

If one doesn't know Apple has it - they need to seek out that it does and how to use it. Same for the android user.

Both require the user to be proactive regardless.

Yep, this is my story.

How's the windows 8 phone treating you?

There are a few things I didn't like. I am using the Lumia 920. I returned it initially after three weeks of ownership due to random reboot issues. Once that got fixed I purchased another (some four months later).

The OS is refreshingly different, so I like that about it, but there are some glaring issues that I still don't much fancy. Not being able to set custom alert tones drived me bonkers. Just about the only custom tones you can install are ringtones. WHat about mail, facebook, twitter, etc. Worse still is you can;t even select presets for text tones. That means if a text comes in from work, you friend, your wife, they all sound the same, no matter what you do.

App backup is another slight pet peeve, in that there really is none. Not a huge issue because I don't go restoring my phone often, but still it would be nice. As it stands, a "backup" just backs up some basic settings, sms threads, etc.

Some other minor gripes that I am just blanking on right now. All in all, it seems the least finished of the three I use.

Interestingly, I spent some time on WIndows forums and that bunch was even more hostile than the Apple people. They basically told me to GTFO if I don't support the forum. I wasn't banned or anything, but sheesh, talk about brand loyalty. They weren't happy about me comparing Android and iOS to WP8. Why the heck not? It's a mobile OS. If it doesn't do what I need it to, and something else does, why shouldn't I point that out?

What 'features' does android have that you don't? Here's one that you have that Android doesn't. BACKUP and RESTORE! I call that a BIG one!

Lol, you've never used Android have you? Search "Backup" on the Google Play Store and see the results. I can tell you've never used Android because you also can't think of any features that Android has that iOS doesn't.
