But why would you update? iOS6 adds nothing of value.

The latest iOS 5 is full of known holes. Hundreds according to Apple's security release notes.

If you want people to be able to simply break into your phone by luring you to a specific website or by sending you a specially prepared PDF or image, suit yourself. There are also known ways to steal you iTunes account information and go shopping with it.

I'd call this more than enough value.

Why do you think Android is so vulnerable to Trojans? It's not just the possibility to install untested apps. It's also caused by millions of phones running old Android versions full of security holes.

iLife for a start. I don't need to worry about AV software, or fanny about with driver installation CD's. Excellent apps like Mail, Calendar, Contacts, FaceTime... not to mention iCloud, and a thriving App Store. I don't need to re-install my OS every year, or unpick the bloatware that's been pre-installed.

You were saying?

Man all of those apps are TERRIBLE. Mail, use Gmail (native mail apps these days? lol), Google Calendar, Google contacts, Skype is two clicks away, and EVERYONE uses it, FaceTime is a complete joke etc...

iLife is equally awful. This is junk software. The whole "pisses on the PC" thing is absurd, completely absurd.

You were saying?

I don't think that any manufacturer locks sideloaded app installing, there were some carrier in the USA that locked them

Sideloading signed apps is not a problem on Android, however, you will have problems installing unsigned apps.

The iPhone works the same way, you can install a signed app from anywhere (not just the app store), but if the app doesn't have an enterprise or your ID app store account signing certificate then you cannot install it.

I use none of that software yet my life is fine.

Yes and thats why your getting your ass kicked by Android.

I have owned the S3, Nexus 4 and the Note 2 and i can tell you fragmentation hasnt hurt my experience one bit.

PC's are fragmented to hell and they dont suffer. In fact OSX cant perform a single benchmark better than PC in any games.

Dont tell consumers its for their benefit you make the hardware and software. Its for your profit only

Your inflammatory post does not belong on a mac website. Why don't you leave?

Then use Google Latitude which works the same as Find My Friends. You don't need a rooted phone for back up with Titanium.

Yes you do need root for Titanium. It is even in the app name and tells you on the Google Play page.

Google Search isn't better on iOS. And I love how people on iOS think Google Maps is better than the Android version because of the quotes Google put out with it's release saying how good it was. It isn't even close to as good as Google Maps on Android. That doesn't even account for the deep integration GMaps has with android/contacts/google now cards/voice search/etc.

Every review I read of Google Maps on iOS, on both sides of the fence, said the UI on the iOS was cleaner with some Android sites saying they hoped Google brought the iOS UI for Maps across to Android.

Don't want a tit for tat petty debate at nearly 11pm my time, so you enjoy your device and I'll enjoy mine.

WSJ Article Headline: "In Rare Move, Apple Goes on the Defensive Against Samsung"

Macrumors Headline: "Phil Schiller Goes on Offensive Against Android and Samsung"

Exactly! That is why Apple is having to get more vocal about their obvious advantages because the writers in propaganda outlets like WSJ have monied masters with vested interests in manipulating public perception. Those that control the propaganda are moving the horse their betting on to the front of the stock market investment game. No worries, they'll stop bashing apple upon reinvestment in apple.

Sorry pal, it may not affect you, but Android fragmentation is a extremely serious issue...Gingerbread is the face of Android, not ICS or JB...this fragmentation is terrible for developers and other people...about 45% of all Android devices out there are on Gingerbread

Over 75% of iOS devices are on iOS 6, the latest software... And I agree with Phil, you do need to sign up to multiple accounts for things on Android and its quite annoying

Android isnt whipping iOS if the iPhone 5 was the most sold phone last quarter...last time i checked the iPhone 5 was the most popular phone last quarter

Apple could care less about these feature phones running Gingerbread

Apple has their stuff made by the chicoms, so what's your point? Making a few hundred thousand desktops in the US doesn't put a dent in Apple's overseas manufacturing. Samsung makes their SoCs in the US, and Apple uses TSMC in Taiwan. Samsung employs more Americans in America than Apple does. Your argument is stale like those who complain about Japanese cars being continue to be inferior because of the cheap quality when they initially came out.

Damn right. I don't know why Apple gets so much love around here for their very limited US made products. 99% of their products are made in Taiwan and probably by underage line workers.

I have modified apks in past (theming purposes), and I didn't need to resign then again.

The funny thing is while the Apple software products are all tied together for a seamless experience that works, you just threw together a bunch of scraps from Google and other junk that won't give the same great experience. Nice fail. :)

Yes, its a fail that I've listed items built into the 'GAPPS' core bundle. All bar 1 (the find my friends equivilent) are pre-installed. Apple dont install find my friends either.

Seriously, if you want to argue about something mind numbingly trivial as thar at least do a better job of it.

Fail...

Facetime is awful? Lol why should i have to download a app when i can just use the built in video chatting services Apple provides, which runs better then Skype and these other programs.

Lol Google Contacts..smh

You obviously haven't used an Android device lately.

My best friend has one and has the latest OS. Complains about it all the time. Pissed off royally. Wants out of his contract and is willing to pay the restock fee. Fell for Fandroids telling him to go their way and he fell for it. And yes I've played with his phone and a few people in my immediately family have Android. It sucks. People know this. No need in pretending it's suddenly turned into cake with buttercream frosting.... Uh oh, Google may use my "buttercream frosting" as a new name for their next OS.

My observations:

The majority of the reason the average consumer buys a phone with Android, is because it is cheaper than an iPhone. Its their first entry to smartphone too. Period.

Most people here that whine about having a new Apple iOS, is about cosmetics: wanting the home screen to give more freedom on how to arrange icons and such. So silly. Just use the phone...

From my own observations on the 'ground level', I see more and more friends dropping their android based phones for iPhones...due to frustrations with battery life, crashes and freezes, and bad or missing apps.

The hidden secret of using Android...this is what Phil is trying to highlight...

Right, I missed the unsigned part

I still have my iPhone 3GS for a phone but last holiday I bought a Nexus 7 and I love it. I can customize it the way I want it with widgets. The apps I use on iOS are all on Android and I discovered some cool new Android-only apps as well. Google Now is pretty cool as well. Also, auto-updating apps is great (although it will drain the battery faster)

Recently I discovered that in iOS 6 there's no Delete All functionality, you have to do a wonky workaround like holding the move button and deselecting an email. Come on Apple.

My next phone will definitely be the Nexus phone.

Thats a lot of phones for the small time Android has been readily available on the market not to mention those phone models themselves are not very old. Why do you change so much? Not happy with your experience I would imagine or you just love cycling through junk phones.

Shhh...fandroids don't like facts.

I have modified apks in past (theming purposes), and I didn't need to resign then again.

It may depend on specific phones. I have no problems installing unsigned apps on my GNex, but I tried it on a GS III and it gave me a "INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES" error. I signed it using my dev certificate and it worked. Then again, I did this using the web, not adb.

I don't know in what platform is better but a cleaner UI is not the only thing that makes an app better. Perhaps on one platform the UI is not so much clean but it has core features that the other platform does not have

Damn right. I don't know why Apple gets so much love around here for their very limited US made products. 99% of their products are made in Taiwan and probably by underage line workers.

No different with Samsung, LG and all these other companies...just about all these companies heavily rely on Foxxconn, which is known to have underage kids and poor working conditions and what not

I am so sick of the talking we keep hearing from Apple. If it doesn't prove the fact that Android has now become a threat to Apple and they are worried then I don't know what will. Use to be a time when Apple wouldn't have anything to say about Android. The fact they now have something to say at every corner speaks volumes.

I wish Apple would focus on their stale OS and stop worrying about feeding the fanboys.

durp

Me iBot. Me listen to everything apple says. Android bad. Apple good. Android better? Cannot compute. Error. Error. Error.
