I think Phil Schiller did a great job. He's always totally enthusiastic about Apple and new products. "Apple Fellow" is probably equivalent to a lifetime seat on the board of directors. 33 years at any company is amazing these days. I hope he wasn't forced out.

WHOA. when I woke up today I didn't expect to be reading this.

Phil has been there for 23 years and is currently 60 years old. Honestly 23 years of vesting stock options and working at the pace a VP at Apple has work both with media exposure and managing hundreds of product maketing decisions and recently the App Store, I'm not surprised at all that he's transitioning out. He is a multi-millionaire many times over and has given an equivalent of lifetime hours to the company in the last 20 years good for him, go enjoy retirement (if that's even possible for someone who works at his level)
33, even better!

The man worked at Apple since he was 27. Give the fellow a break, people.

Tim Cook is 59. How long will he still be at Apple?

Jeff Williams is 57.

Eddie Cue 55.

Craig Federighi is 51 years young! He can take over as CEO. Haha! Kidding. Not.

Board members can't be re-elected past age 70, but Apple does not have a mandatory retirement age for executives. It is 65 at most companies, and it's hard to see him staying on much past that.

In the United States, per the ADEA, mandatory retirement is unlawful for an employer to require an employee to retire at any age except some occupations like the military or federal police agencies, pilots, air traffic controllers, and some judge levels. So, no, it’s not ”65 at most companies ...”

Steve died 9 years ago. If this were Tim’s desire, he would have gotten him out long ago. To stay in the C suite of a major company, a tech one at that, for as long as he has is quite impressive. Dude has earned his bazillions and is now semi-retiring.
Tim Cook is semi-retiring? Based on what?

Something tells me he was always one of the most shrewd guys at Apple, and that Steve recognized this in a "Tim takes the big job, Phil continues to grow our business" kind of way.

Before Apple started more consciously displaying their succession plan on their keynote stages, Steve consistently picked Phil to throw to for demos and gags, and I think there was a reason for this... miss those days

The only change in position at that company I'm interested in is the day the CEO leaves. Not so much that I want him to (honestly I don't care) but because the Internet will literally explode with the news. Servers will go down. Blackouts will occur. It'll be like the Y2K bug all over again.

I always enjoyed hearing Phil on stage introducing a new Mac - you could tell that the Mac was dearest to his heart.

He is such a great presenter that Joz always felt curiously under used. I guess he’s stepping up now though.

I think you misunderstood. I was talking about phil. The person I quoted believes Tim is clearing house of steve’s “yes men”
Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. Sixty is a great time to focus on other things, so I wish Phil the best. I hope this isn’t for a serious health reason other than reducing stress.

Except that he's still remaining in charge of the App Store and Apple Events.
I’ll bet this is only temporary. It’s probably a good thing to split product development/marketing from the App Store. Maybe Schiller is working on some big changes for the App Store. Or big changes will come when his replacement is announced.

Anybody can steer a ship in a straight line, in calm waters, on a clear day. Cook has done it for 9 years.

anyone who doesn't close their rings under the Timregime is offloaded with immediate effect!

What the hell is an Apple Fellow? The guy whom brings coffee and slow juices (for Tim) to the Executive team?
Within 2-3 years Phil shall announce it's retirement. You know, spend more time with it's family...
Tim is forcing Phil out!
