But why would the number keep going up? Surely if it was that bad people would stop upgrading? No one is required to upgrade. I haven't installed it on my 3rd gen iPad.

because there is no alternative if you need to upgrade apps. And there is no accounting for taste. Anyway, there is a lot of good in iOS 7, just wish it wasn't screwed up by a horrible ui that was designed by someone who doesn't know basic design rules. I mean, I hated the leather and green felt as much as anyone, but at least the ui was intuitive and readable. iOS7 needs a lot of work.

It's also going up because many have their phones set to auto-download an update (I am not saying auto install).

But that's neither here nor there. The adoption rate has no "emotion" attached to it in my opinion. An upgrade <> whether or not the update is good or bad. And once you update - it's not like you can downgrade. So of course #s will always be going "up."

Oh please I installed it on my phone and in less than 10 minutes was using it like I normally do. And most of that time was spent picking out wallpapers for my home and lock screens. I don't disagree that it's an unfinished product and that they rushed to get something done in a short amount of time. But I don't think it's a disaster and will get better over time. I also remember the hate for OS X when it first came out. And of course that product was refined over time just like the new iOS will be.

As far as apps, are there any that are iOS 7 only right now? I haven't upgraded to iOS 7 on my iPad and all my apps still work just fine. I know people who haven't upgraded their iPhone and aren't having any issues.

All I'm saying is if it was such a disaster that number wouldn't be so high. And Apple wouldn't have sold a record number of phones or hold the top spot in sales on the major US carriers. I'm not suggesting iOS 7 is perfect and doesn't have any flaws. I personally think its unfinished and Apple rushed to get something complete for a WWDC. I just think the hysterics around it are ridiculous. As I said in an earlier post, I downloaded it on my phone and was using my phone like normal in less than 10 minutes. For me iOS 7 is the beginning, not the end and I see it being refined over time.

Well, we are way off topic here, so I'll just say that it iOS has taken a very polarizing new direction and one that makes the os less intuitive by design. Just hoping they fix all of the flaws before I have to upgrade my main phone.
I didn't really get what the big deal was about Scott's leaving the company, but now I get it, and feel sorry for him. He was probably just trying to teach Ive some design basics, but he was too stubborn to listen.

I don't disagree with most of your post. But again - The # of iPhone selling and the design iOS7 aren't necc related. Not entirely. Because you can keep your phone and still have iOS7.

I just think in general you can't correlate "randomly." # of units updated <> happy customer nor does # of units sold = happy with iOS7.

I am in no way judging iOS 7 as good or bad. I have no real emotional investment in it. It is what is is. Like you said - there's good, there's bad and we all know (or should know) that it's not going to be stagnant.

Yes, but I'm not sure that you don't. His chest hair conspicuously appears on every single product announcement video that Apple releases to the public.

But why do you care? Most people care about the products that Jony is talking about. Not the hair coming out of his chest.

For the same reason people mock Ballmer and others when they present or show up in videos?

No different.

According to Koh, the jury may have miscalculated the original damages due to a misunderstanding of patent issues, resulting in a lump sum award that did not distinguish between patent violations. With a lump sum award, the court was unable to determine which part of the damages were applicable to each infringing patent.

This could be heaven
This could be heaven for everyone

In these days of cool reflection
You come to me and everything seems alright
In these days of cold affections
You sit by me - and everything's fine

This could be heaven for everyone
This world could be fed, this world could be fun
This could be heaven for everyone
This world could be free, this world could be one

This is called true democracy...

Being human and truly humble.

haul him over the skeuomorphic coals while we wallow in the glow of Helvetica Neue righteousness!

Scott Forstall is reportedly a huge perfectionist inside, a talented guy, and a brilliant engineer who, I believe, was Steve's protegé, but after the latter's untimely death, was not seen as a team player by the other senior VPs. He is no doubt smarting from having been purged from the team as well as his 'baby' iOS, not unlike what Steve must have felt in 1985, when he was ousted from 'his' baby, the company he co-founded.

Don't forget that Scott Forestall still owns a ton of Apple stock. Apple's success is STILL in his best interests.

Not only that, but Scott lived and breathed Apple; I don't believe he is vindictive enough to wish his former employer ill will, or failure as a company, and will do what he can, to help his former teammates.

Nothing. The "special advisor" role is basically because California doesn't respect non-compete agreements. By keeping him on their payroll they prevent him from going to a competitor. I think it runs out at the end of the year, so we'll likely see him turn up somewhere else then. Perhaps even Microsoft, depending on who the new CEO is, but more likely at a startup where he can be the CEO.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up at Samsung.

Wrong. Ive is arrogance personified and his chest hair is ugly. Forstall is the next Steve Jobs, and Cook and Ive damn well knew it so they forced him out at the first opportunity.

I can't help but feel you're the same person who would be baying for Forstall's departure, had he still been at Apple. Forstall is by no means a Jobs, and I genuinely have no idea how you can justify that comment.

Scott Forstall designed the first mobile OS the world had ever seen. What has Tim Cook ever designed? An extra half inch on the iPhone screen?

Forstall's testimony will be full of unnecessary flourishes... ;)

Probably the most efficient JIT worldwide manufacturing + logistics operation ever. No minor feat.

Yeah I agree I think it wasn't the best decision firing Scott Forstall.

I think If he was around iOS 7 could have turned out much better, not that I don't like the Flat UI, but I think the look of the Flat UI could have been a lot better then it is now.

Wow. What a thought. Bring back an overbearing, abrasive, and insulting boss to Apple.

<shiver>

Things have actually started to improve since he left.

Voice of reason amidst a cacophony of nonsense. Thank you.
Out of context - you could be talking about Steve Jobs.

Think about it....

Um... I think that was kinda the point. Jobs was genius, but an overbearing, abrasive, insulting genius. Forstall is all that minus the genius part. Jobs got away with it because he was unique and it was his company. But the days of petulant leadership are over. Those at the helm are mature, in control of their emotions, and respectful of each other. And that is a very, very good thing.
