Wtf? This can't be real! You ask why?

Assuming this is the 4.7 inch one why is it THIS BIG? Many people in these forums have done the calculations including myself, and a 4.5 inch 720p display fits inside the current 5s while retaining the home button and the symmetric bezel all around with some good engineering Apple is capable of doing. So why go much bigger and piss people off for a lousy .2 inches while they could have gone 4.5" and kept everyone happy?

And for those that want a much larger phone 5.5" offering should be perfect, while the 4.5" version keeps the same dimensions.

i dont think it looks that big it looks like most 4.7" screen smartphones

That would be pretty tight to keep the home button and symmetrical top and bottom, but you are correct that the numbers seem to work.

I think you should be saying "Damn, why is the iPhone 5S so small compared to the normal-sized front panel?"

If they come out with this, they better keep the smaller form factor.

Or introduce a smaller one. If I'm carrying an iPad everywhere, I don't need a shrunk, and otherwise duplicate, version of it just to get phone capability. Give me an iPhone Nano!

Would it kill Apple to do something actually interesting with the design? The bars at the top and bottom look dated. What is Ive doing over there at Apple besides NOTHING on the hardware front and screwing up iOS?

Jonny Ive, it's time for you to retire. You're not doing anything.

I hate all of you who want a bigger iPhone. Apple is just giving the customer what it wants and it seems everyone wants a bigger phone these days and I hate you all. I like being able to put mine in my pocket. You all can suck it! Suck it hard!

You haven't tried putting a bigger phone in your pocket them.

Could not agree more. Tired/dated. So unexciting. Apple are design royalty. What gives with this heel dragging??

Apple may argue the face of the iPhone is more iconic than tired or dated. The same way the Green Bay Packers or New York Yankees logos have stood the test of time.

IMO, a 4.7" iPhone would be the same size as the HTC One that the fandroids drooled over last year. It would eliminate the "iPhone is too small" debate, while stripping away Android manufacturer's most lethal point of differentiation to this point (physical screen size means more to the masses than the ability to over-customize 4,000 home screens). Over 5" starts to get awkward as a phone and too small to be a good tablet. 4.7" iPhone seems to make the most sense for Apple.

The perfect size phone for the average person. Sign me up..... As long as it's not $100 more than the current pricing structure.

I guess this also confirms no edge to edge screen then? That was a rumored 'feature' I was really looking forward too.

All right, so growing larger with same 16:9 aspect ratio. argh.

So now the question is, 400-ish ppi retina 3x 1704x960 screen?
Or same pixel density of 326 ppi and a resolution of 1366x768?

I've just picked up the "iPhone 6" and put it in my pocket; it's SO small, it literally doesn't take up ANY ROOM AT ALL - it feels like it isn't even there, not even a slight bulge... and ZERO weight... I wonder if they'll call it "iPhone Air" - it seems to be made of it...

:p
