Except that Apple just introduced Touch ID into the HOME BUTTON last year. And they haven't even brought it to the iPad yet. Did you really think they would drop that after one year? Where is Touch ID on this mockup?

There's no reason they couldn't integrate a fingerprint scanner into the bottom of the screen. difficult but it could be done.

I was really hoping Apple would go this route: eliminate the home button, make a very tiny bezel, and as a result the size increase is minimal.

Instead, it just looks like they're making a larger 5S. Disappointing.

Do you have a solution for TouchID with no home button?

Do have a solution for the weakness of the device with no side bezels?

Can you design a camera system that fits in the smaller device?

My guess is, "no" to all 3.....disappointing.

No One know if this is legit, as the front panels are probably the easiest thing to produce/fake. Could be a knockoff for all we know

Maybe Apple is doing market research by "leaking" these prototype designs and seeing which one gets bashed the most.

Are you sure there isn't ANY reason they couldn't integrate it into the bottom of the screen? Because I'm betting Apple's engineers are a bit more knowledgeable about such things....

This makes me very sad: it is way too big. No way do I want to try to stuff that in my pocket or hold it in one hand or make a phone call with it.

I so hope that Apple, while catering to the hopefully temporary "give me a giant phone" insanity out there offers us an alternative top of the line model the size of a 4S or 5S.

Here we are .... Apple following the idiotic path of Samsung & Co ....
I'd like to have a SLIGHTLY bigger iPhone. We probably will have a VERY BIGGER iPhone 6.
Nerds will be happy ... I will be disappointed.

Ok but you really think they would be able to do that one year after implementing it the way they did? Maybe they should have gotten rid of the home button last year. Or maybe there are quite difficult engineering issues that they haven't been able to solve for yet. It's easy for someone to mock something up in software that they never have to make a working prototype for. You can make something super cool looking that's the super thin with next to no bezels. Easy to do when you don't have to actually engineer the darn thing.

i wish the could take a design cue from this ... i love these bezels

I hate all of you who want a bigger iPhone. Apple is just giving the customer what it wants and it seems everyone wants a bigger phone these days and I hate you all. I like being able to put mine in my pocket. You all can suck it! Suck it hard!

I'm sharing your feelings ...

But we see these mockups with edge to edge displays. Surely if Apple engineers weren't so lazy and knew how to innovate we'd get that, no? /s

how the hell are developers going to support this many layouts?
auto layout constraints are a headache to implement.

If they keep the same aspect ratio as the 5/5S (16:9), and just an increase in resolution to maintain the same DPI, it'll be pretty easy. But of course, it wouldn't be ideal because then we couldn't fit more on the screen even with the bigger screen.

I dont think the Home Button will ever vanish. It just has a mass market appeal. People trust physical buttons way more than virtual on screen ones. Plus you dont accidentally press the home button.

Maybe it will change shape or size but I doubt it will ever vanish.

16 pages of bezel discussion and no one has written "bevel" yet?

We've had "bazel", "benzel" and "basel"... but no bevel. I can't decide if I'm proud or disappointed.

That's one giant slab of shaped sapphire glass...I'm assuming. Since, we all know the next iPhone will have a sapphire glass front. Supposedly. :)

Oh boy. Those software buttons in Android look more and more attractive now!

That's the moment when Android surpassed ios in my opinion. Android 4.0 (ice cream sandwich) was a total revamp and Apple never caught up. If this picture is true Android could easily produce a smaller 4.7 inch phone with a better screen to boot.

If the 5s is too big for some people, then they need to go back to using flip phones. I'm sure they can find a Motorola razor in good condition on ebay.

Something the size of an old Razor flip phone, but thinner, and running iOS 7 or 8 on an Apple A7 or A8 processor would be great! Very pocketable and palmable for people who already have an iPad Mini (etc.) for when they want a use bigger display than they want to carry with them all the time.

Who needs a big display for iTunes Radio, a Siri question, Twitter, or Flappy Birds while waiting for the elevator?

I don't think Apple care so much about how much it "appeals" to people, it's just a clear, logical design choice - it embodies the whole iOS idea of elegant simplicity - a single button that is always where it is, and it always gives you a consistent, guaranteed behaviour - you go to the home screen, without fail. The fact it is a physical button means that, aside from being part of activating DFU mode, waking the display etc, it is easily pressed in the dark or in a pocket - can you imagine using Siri in your pocket with a SOFT button? Ugh.

The fact it is concave, also means your fingertip registers into it firmly, and doesn't skid or slip off it, as it could on a convex form. Personally, I find it good afforance, too.

Are you 10 years old? Apple will introduce an updated 4" phone along with the introduction of bigger sized versions.

How do I know this? It makes business sense and is also common sense. Something that many here seem to be lacking.

According to these photo's the camera is going to be swapped with the ambient light sensor?

Why does it have such huge bezels? They should be ashamed of themselves.

Agree. We are likely seeing here extensions to the iPhone 5c line up.

The flagship model will probably be different/smaller?

Would even make sense to get these leaks out now, satisfying all these people who don't appreciate an appropriate phone size.

I have been forced to use a GS4 at work and it is the worst phone experience I had since my phone before the iPhone - whatever funny phone that was.

You dont. you're just speculating like every other analyst and rumor blog in the stratosphere.
