That doesn't matter. The new phone isn't the size of an iPad Mini. It WILL fit in jean and shirt pockets with no issue at all. Hell, just ask anyone with a Samsung/LG/HTC phone. Shh, don't tell anyone but one handed use will still be possible too. People are blowing the size bump waaaaaaay out of proportion.

I'll just be happy once the phone is released so we can all see you "It's too big!!!" people go, "Oh. This size is great!"
A iPhone 5s with a otter box case is wider than the soon to be iPhone 6 4.7" without a case

I don't think you realize many people still like a small phone. Obviously the galaxy phones, htc one, and others are useable and pocketable, but not everyone wants a phone that size. I wish they would have stuck to 3.5" b.c for me it is a phone. I have a tablet if I need a larger screen.

If that is real , it suggests there is to be no redesign, and it's simply an enlarged iPhone 5/s. Which would be disappointing if true.
What does the front panel have to do with the redesign of the phone? Absolutely nothing!

For me I don't see any innovation if this turns out to be the real deal. Maybe the iPhone design is just so perfect as it doesn't need to be different? I welcome a larger display but how about some new look?

Is it not at all possible that Touch ID is driving the requirements of the bezel? I'm not sure how you could have a smaller home button that would still work effectively. Touch ID was just introduced last year; did anyone really expect that in one year Apple would have figured out a way to incorporate Touch ID without the need of a physical home button? I'm sure we'll get there some day but I never expected the home button to go away this year. I've seen fan mockups where the bezel just barely is wide enough for the home button and the top bezel is shrunk to where top and bottom are asymmetrical and it looks hideous.
Of course, anything is possible.

My point is simply I was hoping that Apple would throw something dramatic out there for the iPhone 6 with a screen size increase. Having a large phone isn't a problem for me, I use one now. I just would like to see something come out that really makes you go "wow". An upsized 5s isn't that, even if the rest of the design is different. It's an 8 year old front plate design.

All you see here is the screen. What new look were you expecting to see?

No! I don't want a phone that big. This makes me sad, really.

Way to big. Hate it.

The width looks ridiculous. One handed use doesn't look possible on that thing.

This makes me very sad: it is way too big. No way do I want to try to stuff that in my pocket or hold it in one hand or make a phone call with it.

I so hope that Apple, while catering to the hopefully temporary "give me a giant phone" insanity out there offers us an alternative top of the line model the size of a 4S or 5S.

Stop crying, they will still offer a variant for people with child hands.

You don't have to buy it.

For all the many tens of thousands of people who "can't see it, somehow", there's a handful of people with it IN their hands, that CAN see it, and know far better than all of you that its a winner.

You can't see tomorrow yet... so what?

I've got a warehouse with 327 unlocked, sealed and new 3GS' in it ... so show my bank balance that you "hate" an unseen phone - get your credit cards out, folks...

Look at how upset some people were/are with the redesign of iOS. That was a 6 year old design. Maybe some day we'll have an iPhone with no home button and completely bezel free but anyone expecting it this year just set themselves up for disappointment. Apple just introduced Touch ID into the home button last year. Did anyone really expect that implementation would be replaced only one year later? I guess I just don't get all the complaining over phone designs (not just iPhone) these days. Apart from completely eliminating the bezel there's not a lot aesthetically that can change. I don't see the rectangle changing anytime soon (unless we get flexible, foldable designs some day).

For me it's the software that matters and that's where I'd love to see Apple step up. Better notifications and quick reply to messages. Better inter-app communication. Give 3rd party developers access to Siri and Touch ID. These are things I care about more than what the device looks like aesthetically.

You're always the calm voice of reason - always like seeing you here :)

I agree with you, wholeheartedly.

I'm a little surprised people were expecting a phone with no bezel or home button. Incorporating Touch ID into the home button last year should have given people a clue that it wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. I suppose they could have shrunk the bezel to just barely cover the button but that would really make the button look out of place (like on the Galaxy devices).

Yeah, I agree - the current TouchID implementation using the home button almost guaranteed another generation of the “classic” home button. I’m glad, I love the physical home button for a number of reasons.

I also don’t think it’ll lose the symmetry of the top and bottom sections either (even with the camera lens factored in, there’s a few mm they could trim from the top, but the “imbalance” in landscape orientation doesn’t seem like an Apple design).

Heck, I hope they keep the large[r] top section and arm it with an array an xenon flashes :D

Thanks. I guess my expectations are more realistic. Home button isn't going anywhere so the overall size of the device will get bigger. Not sure how this is shocking to anyone. :)

That's all I'm asking for. :D

Since we are in hardware thread, that's where my focus is. I would love to see Apple push iOS further and move away from just icons on the screen.
