The plastic casing is a nice touch for the plastic iPhone 5. Tho I think i would have been cooler to just name it the new colorful iPhone 5, the C is ok I guess. It invites a lot of unneeded mockery, but whatever.

I am no one's stock broker, but If I was any of you I would buy me so me more Apple stock. Stock prices, margins and profits are going to skyrocket. Long overdue move, but better late than never.

Perhaps it's a scrap bin of bad moldings, being stored out the back in an unsecured area. I worn in manufacturing and bad parts are generally just thrown into a container before they are removed to disposal.

Then all Samsung phones are low cost phones with premium price.

Seriously? How long have you been following Apple rumors in general? Some of the most unbelievable leaks happened during Steve Jobs' time. Packaging is nothing in comparison to the premature specification leak of the G5. What about the time when Time Magazine leaked the image of the new iMac the night before the keynote?

We have yet to see anything along those lines under Tim Cook. Leaked packaging? That's nothing.

You do have a good point there there really hasn't been massive amounts of leaks under cooks watch. While there were some pretty good ones they are bound to happen no matter what company apple just has a lot of people watching them so their leaks are more pronounced.

The 5C will make stockholders very happy. When all is said and done the C will ultimately stand for CASH. It will eventually outsell the 5S and the original 5 combined.

The use of cardboard requires e.g. many liters of water. There is no way to tell that these plastic enclosures are more or less environmentally friendly than other the other iphone packages without knowing more about the production process. These could very well be recycled plastic bottles.

If Apples careful and offers this phone at an attractive price, I expect them to sell in vast quantities. I'd like to see this model become a roaring success. Apple needs a break out product, then perhaps they'd relax and create something new.

Maybe it's just an iPhone 5 without the aluminium casing, so it has higher profit margins at $99.

EDIT And if this is the 'low-cost' iPhone, it's not going to be cheap. The packaging basically says: it's an iPhone 5 in a different casing. They are not dropping the iPhone 5 price from $649 today, to $299/$399 tomorrow - even with a different casing.

I also think its the new iphone 5s, ie a new phone with better components than the 5. There might be a aluminium phone with the same, better components, that they might call an iPhone Pro, but either way i don't believe there'll be a cheap low cost iPhone.

You can get it cheaper without contract. It will make a difference.

This reeks of Apple of the 90's. Just expanding their product line to the point where it was not financially viable anymore. And it took Jobs to say "you idiots, remove all that crap". And Jobs reduced the product lines to better smaller numbers of product lines.

I would be ok however to have no previous iPhone model on sale. Only the current high end ones and the iPhone C as the cheap end. No more having the last 2 generations for sale like now. This would not add to the number of models being sold as new would place old getting the boot.
