I don't know why people won't believe Apple would create a phablet. It's huge in China and that alone is reason enough for Apple to create one. Remember, not everyone can afford both a smartphone and tablet; especially in developing nations.

Personally, I find them horrible cos they're not very portable, impossible to use with one hand and are no substitute for an iPad. But that's just me... I love being able pull my very light and compact iPhone 5S out of my pants pocket and in one single motion have it unlocked using Touch ID and opening apps, checking stocks and typing iMessages with one hand while I sip coffee using my other hand.

Funny, I can do all that with my Note 3. Just typed all this with one hand while rubbing my dogs belly. It's a lot easier than you think it is.

----------

Looks like it's real, but I think it makes absolutely no sense to get a phone that's bigger than your hand. It's a couple inches away from the iPad mini, why not just buy that.

Because that's just completely impractical and has no cell service.

----------

Bring on the 5.5! I have a Note3 and will switch if it comes out. To the people who swear its too big bla bla bla. Once you use a large screened phone you won't want to go back. Period. End of Story. <Flame suit is on> :D

I'm buying this one as well plus the Note 4.

----------

They're not necessary and don't make sense when you really think about it... at least not when you get to the point where one handed use becomes impossible. The benefits of half an inch or .7" of extra screen real estate simply does not outweigh the inability to comfortably operate it with one hand.

Would people get over this one handed use crap please. 100s of millions of people use 5"+ screens everyday with no trouble at all. Heck, I'm using the Note 3 right now typing all this with one hand. It's an non issue.

I like the idea if a 5.5. It's for people who want or have an tablet or iPad but live on there phone...it's actually the perfect size.

Unfortunately the downside is there probably will not be a 4 inch iPhone with latest components from now on, just like the 3.5" iPhone. :( I'm one of very few wanting to get a good new 3.5" iPhone or even a iPod Touch but that won't happen anytime soon.

There are a lot more than a few of us who want normal sized phones! It would be a stupid move by apple- who has been telling us about the benifits of small screen for years then wants everyone on oversized phones.

Congratulations, you like using a large phone and you can type one handed. Some of us can't. Some of us like using our phones one handed - not all of us want massive phones. Those people who have large phones have made the choice. Apple should continue making a high end 4 inch phone- then if you want a large phone go ahead but don't shoehorn everybody into getting one.

Nope, 1080p does not exist.

The 5.5" 'rumored' model is starting to apple to me more after I saw my friends GS4. I like the big screen but I guess I just never experienced it.

You can use 'apple' as a verb? Cool! Apple me that iPhone 6! (Am I using it wrong?)

That's Apple's plan. You buy the 4.7" on release day and 30 days later they release a 5.5" to make you feel guilty. Meanwhile you have to sale the 4.7" at a lost because everyone wants the 5.5".
Exact reason why Apple went from a 30 day to 15 day return policy a few months ago. I can't blame Apple for a staggered launch because half you people are return crazy. Hell; I wouldn't release the 5.5" until December or maybe early 2015. They know that you're going to buy it.

Ha, that's all too true! Bah, guess I gotta figure it out and make one purchase and stick with it. Thanks for the reality check!

It is not just .5" or .7", its about 40% larger screen and almost 100% larger on the 5.5" one. Real estate is measured in square units not linear.

I don't really think you can blame Apple if people took their one handed marketing as gospel. It was marketing. Whatever product they introduce they're going to try to put it in the most advantageous position they can. If people take what they say as absolute fact, blame the people not Apple.

For those who like smaller phones, I hope Apple gives them what they want as well. That normal and oversized thing... yeah, 4" phone is not normal. It's smaller. 4.7" and 5.5" are larger. Phones run the gambit in size now. 4" is not the de facto normal. It's just one of many sizes.

Board fits.
Look at that battery room.
No, that is not the 4.7 motherboard. That one is less wide at the top.

That's your plan. Apple hasn't announced its plan yet.

finally. I've been silently skeptical about the 5.5. This is more reassuring, but I'm still not completely convinced. I guess I don't want to be too let down

If these leaks turn out to be real this is by far the year with the lowest amount of security ever.

I remember when the iPhone 4 was being built we had literally two leaks of the actual phones design. The gizmodo leak and one in Taiwan where they had a prototype in a special mode for testing.

Now? It's like every 3 days someone new has a leaked part. Again if these are really leaked parts (which we'll know after Apple unveil it obviously) then Apple has serious leak problems that are getting worse every year.

I remember at the D Conference I think last year or the year before that Tim Cook said he was going to "double down" on secrecy. I think he has failed in this regard.

Doubt it. The iPhone 5 casing was leaked fully in May of that year.

The leak problem isn't getting better or worse. It's just the reality of making millions of phones prior to launch that involves numerous contractors and suppliers in different countries.

I like to believe that apple is savvy enough to 'leak' rubbish images so that at the keynote they show something that a lot of people are not already tired of.

I see leaked images on a lot of main stream websites (ie. not just these rumour sites) - so what do apple have to 'unveil' at the launch that hasn't already been seen all over the web?

On Sept 9 I will learn whether my beliefs are justified or whether apple lacks imagination when it comes to public relations and marketing

I'm not so sure. All we've seen are sketchy parts that may or may not resemble the final device. The launch is presumably in a couple weeks and we haven't seen a fully assembled production quality device.

This is what an iPhone 6 should look like on its home screen.

Its all based on opinion. I think 4 inch is normal!!

NewsPaper

The only word I understood from the newspaper in the background was 2014!
So, it must be true! :>)
If I was taking the picture, I would have had the full date from the newspaper in the background!

I'm a red blooded believer and while I thought I'd never consider a 5.5" phone (thinking that the 4.7" offering is perfect) these pics have me swayed. Looks comfy to hold. I'll probably stick with the smaller iPhone still since I already have an iPad MINIr.

Damn it, regarding the antenna breaks, I think I've moved from abject disgust to uncomfortable acceptance. Soon Stockholm Syndrome will kick in and I'll love them :(

I still believe the 5.5 will have the protruding camera lens because I assume it to be thinner to compensate for it's increased girth. The 4.7 will be lovely and flush ...I hope...

I'm on the same boat, the Stockholm Syndrome has already kicked in for these part leaks... I'm afraid I'll be convinced when I hear Jony I've say how "Unapologetically Wide" the antenna breaks are..

Ditto on the camera cover; I like being able to lay my phone flat on my desk and worry a cover will make it constantly click like a table with a short leg.
