Now that's how you shoot B&W! What equipment?
Thank you! It was shot with a Pentax K20D, the lens was Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 with a Hoya SHMC CPL filter. Most of the work for this photo was done in Lightroom 3.3 though :)

Interesting, the tonal differences and leading lines of the track make this a very compelling shot.
I suspect the CPL played a significant role in darkening the sky and the unusual texture of the snow?
I did use the CPL to bring out the texture of the snow more, but I also emphasized it in LR.

Nicely done, looks like hard work!
Thank you! I think the person going up the hill had too much fun to think about the hard work.

Here is my photo for today: "All I See Is Fog"

We went to a friend's house for a caroling party this morning. Here is our hostess playing one of the carols.

shot in my garage, took the glass off the bulb, soaked the wire into some flammable thinner and then turned the bulb on while shooting at 8 frames per second.. this was the second last frame.. love it.

Hi and welcome. Take a look at the ImageShack tutorial in the link in my sig. It will show how to use this site.

When you use ImageShack, set the image size to no larger than 1200x800. It will look like this.

Oh.. Nice photo.

Fixed that.. Getting old... Not really...:D
;) :p

Nice light. Are you using any type of filter to get the nice flares?
I didn't use any filters here, it might be the coating on the lens (Pentax DA 12-24mm f/4.0), or the lens element configuration... not sure :)

I just tried and an upload of a photo I posted a while back took around 10 seconds.
Thanks, it looks like my widget isn't working, it never "finishes" the upload (but looking via the web interface it is indeed there).

Very nice, just at the right time, you've got a really nice balance of light with great colours. Well done.

I'm wondering, did you have your WB in auto or was it preset to something else? This is really great as it seems to give off the four elements in a subtle way (to me at least) :) I'd love to just pull up a chair and sit for a few hours there.

Thanks :) my white balance was on auto, shot in RAW with no white balance adjustment in Aperture.
I didn't do much here PP wise, 0.06 boost in saturation and some slight dodging on the boats and their reflections.
Those orange lights by the wharf were pretty powerful in colour.

Great timing, pose and simplicity, this really works for me.

This is pretty cool!

I have seen shots done using the lightbulb with the glass removed and the element coated with or buried in different materials. It's a somewhat dangerous setup, but we had fire extinguishers ready and shooting was also done at 8 fps and some video shot at 60 fps.

The more spectacular shots had the most hazards related to them.

Some outstanding shots over the last couple of days from all involved. This forum inspires me!

Mine for the day, New lens, looking forward to some tripod shots....

I love these kinds of shots. Beautiful. I can barely believe you shot this handheld! That's amazing (clearly you don't enjoy my next favorite photo the way I do). However, I can't believe you were over 4 Million Km away (EXIF focus distance)! :)

Mmmmm! Awesome shot of one of my favorite indulgences! Those guys really do put the art in "Latte Art" :)

Coming off a muddy, off-camber straightaway into a slippery corner... but it's really all about the jersey for me... ;)

A horse in the snow

Canon EOS 60D
0.001 sec (1/2000)
f/5.7
146 mm
ISO500

This is my first attempt at selective photoshopping, there were a few background details that detracted from the horse, I wanted to the horse to look alone, hope I managed to pull it off well.

^ I really need to get out and try to get some shots like this one. I live in the middle of horse country and there are some beautiful farms within a few miles of my house. We have had snow here for about the past week and I have driven past a ton of great photos, but never got a chance to stop.

More macro for me. Not the best, but i thought it was cool that I could focus on the reflection in the tiny eye of a plush stuffed frog.

Bought a tripod from B&H today. It's infinitely helpful when taking photographs in the dark!
