This wasn't what I was after but I'll have to settle. I got rained out shortly after following a few Snowy Owls.

Powerful shot, well done.

All the big events before Christmas are finally over, and I have a bit more time to work on some of my image backlogs. Here's one from the same sunset I shared a while back of Atlanta at a bit earlier time in the evening. The clouds were really breath-taking.

Great colours, I like the HDR treatment here.
The purple foreground creates a mystical feeling for me.

I just spend the last half hour really enjoying all the work posted here lately. Some really captivating work by all.

Over the coming days I'll be posting a series of shots from my recent trip to Ireland. What a fantastic place! I'll be starting off with some tributes to Doylem's lovely village shots...

The balance of light makes for a great atmosphere, great capture VR!
I thought this was one of Doylem's at first.

Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 Shot at 112 mm
Exposure: Auto exposure, Shutter priority AE, 1/30 sec, f/7.1, ISO 250

hand held

I just love this shot. The way the moon casts down its light over the snowy mountains behind the well-lit house... Great job. (Especially for being hand held!) Was this at night, or during the day seeing you're in Alaska?

Mine for today: I just love looking up at the Žilina skyline...

Thanks I took a break from work to go out and shoot the color in the sky at sunset about 3:30 p.m.

and on the way back to the office noticed the moon just peaking over the mountain. There was still some light in the sky but the sun had gone down.

I would sure like to see the Žilina skyline myself :)

Here's another from Kinsale, Ireland...

In this photo, I believe the mom had sent the daughter out of the store to find her brother who could not stand still for a second and was running all over the place. :)

I love the story and the photo tells it well. This didn't happen to be a pirate family by chance did it? ;)

The young elephant decided it wanted to act just like mommy (or is it daddy? )

I got my Christmas gift today - a 580EX II speedlite. I've been asked to shoot some carolers singing for donations tomorrow night, and I decided I'd need the flash before Christmas to be able to get decent shots tomorrow night. I started figuring it out this evening using the family nativity scene. Off-camera flash is going to be fun...

Really liked the look of this photo, but have you saved and re-saved the jpeg a lot...looks as though there is a fair bit of banding and artifcating going on??

Thanks for the comment, it was my first try using an Ansel-style PS channel mixer, admittedly needs some more work!

Lovely. Shame Bellevue didn't look like that last time I was there - it was rainy and miserable. Still nice place however. :)

And here is another image from me, taken a while back - RAN 723 Squadron Helicopter Display Team:

I normally prefer not to photograph helicopters, but these two were an obvious exception. :)

Thanks, it was raining when I headed out there and the visibility was pretty poor, lucky for me it cleared up for a bit. Shortly after this photo those clouds opened up over Bellevue and let loose the rain. It stayed dry in Seattle though and I continued making photo's until my battery died, I then got up at 4am the next day and went after it some more! :D

This really captures the skill of the pilots!

Thanks LumbermanSVO, DMR727. :) Those 723SQN pilots do a great job with that AS350 display. If you photograph them at the right angle, it can look like they are nose-to-nose and touching each other.

LumbermanSVO: my only other regret when I was in Bellevue was that I didn't have enough time to visit the surrounding areas, I was pretty much confined to the Hilton due to a conference I was at, and urgently being required back a work in Sydney right after it. The Hilton was excellent with exceedingly gracious staff - nothing too difficult for them.

I'd planned to get there the day earlier before the conference and take a trip up to Paine Field with my camera, but a pair of unreliable B747-422 and B767-322 planes put paid to that idea - so I spent most of the extra time in Honolulu airport. The first plane had low oil pressure on one engine, and the second one sent to get us went "tech" upon arriving in HNL. Talk about bad luck. :)

Very unlucky, and how unlikely.

I generally avoid that side of the lake because there is no easy way to get where I'm going. I drive up the west side of the lake almost every Thursday, that includes driving past the Boeing plant in Renton where they do the final assembly of the 737's. I usually see the 737 fuselages heading west on the train in Montana on Sundays as I make my way to Billings, MT.

A good friend of mine works for a non-profit company that does a bunch of wiring harness assembly/marking as well as some chemical bonding and mechanical assembly for Boeing. I've been learning product photography at their facility and have been able to see and photograph some seriously cool stuff.
