Thanks. I'm kind of fond of this image for some reason. A bit abstract, but I like the color gradient, lines, curves. Taken during a fresh snow after my wife drove off to work. Previous driving tracks on the road were partially covered with new snow while her tire tracks were fresh.

Not one of my best, but this caught my eye as I was leaving for work today. I liked the shadows and the texture of the snow. Objectively, it's not that exciting. I'm not going to be printing and hanging it. I still kind of like it though.

I'm finding myself drawn to lines, shadows, and patterns in my photography. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But my eye keeps getting arrested by these elements as I go about my daily life.

I must ask before I post...

Does a time lapse that I created count as a Photo of the day post?
If so... Do I create a new post or edit this one and past the video URL here?

Or is there a way to embed the YouTube video in here instead or just posting the link?

Thanks
Mike!

Her name is Becky, and she paints portraits of pets. She agreed to be in this portrait for me, but she didn't think she was very photogenic. I disagree. I'm happy with how this turned out in spite of it being taken in the early afternoon, which is probably the worst time of day. Fortunately, the sun isn't all that high in the sky this time of year.

One for the day. Shooting what I can for now to learn and bringing the shots into DPP to learn processing aswell.

I think this lady does herself an injustice! Are you able to get rid of the bits of greenery at the top of her head?

I agree with Keleko: it seems to be bird month this month. Or maybe bird and car month! This is a lovely clean shot and caught just at the right moment.

Saw an old man reading the obituaries. It just said something to me. Is one of his friends in there? Is he a townie and knows people who may be in there? Is this the first thing he checks now at his age (I never look at 32)? Just something about the scene made me pull the camera out of my bag and snap the picture. Not ideal through glass but I couldn't not take it. :/

A photo from a recent trip to Costa Rica. Any tips or comments would be greatly appreciated

I would assume since you were at 46mm you had no other choice but to shoot at 5.6. 1/6th of a second is pretty slow shutter speed, even with IS. Since your aperture is open as much as possible and you're getting some camera shake with the slow shutter speed your only other option is to shoot at a higher ISO. Not sure of your sensor but I will go as high as 1600 on my 7D comfortably. If you shoot raw, you could underexpose a bit and fix in post which would allow you to shoot at a faster shutter speed as well.

As far as composition, I like the shot, shake withstanding. As a general (but not rock solid) rule, when shooting an animal with a shallow DOF, focus on the eyes. You could have done that, I can't tell because of the camera shake.

Keep it up, you'll get better every-time you shoot.

Thanks. i was shooting with a canon 400d and any use of flash was prohibited. Most of them were too blurry to use. This one (albeit still a little blurry) was the best one I could get. And I did attempt to focus on the eyes

Good quick eye seing this scene gameface. Story telling pictures like these show another side of your talent as a photographer, which is recognising such scenes that many will never see.

Geez, I didn't even notice it there! I'll have to try to remove it.

Today's shot is from Fernbank Museum in Atlanta. I dare you to color balance THIS! :)
