This is a really beautiful image. One of the best skateboard shots I've seen recently. I'm so tired of everyone shooting extreme sports with a fish eye lens, this is a breath of fresh air.

I'm glad you like it. I'm considering a bit further editing to remove the tree in his butt so the silhouette is cleaner.

Today's shot I barely had time to get before the light was gone. I had an appointment at 5:15, so it was almost dark by the time I was done and able to get to this church to make my picture.

I did a light curve adjustment on this photo. Helped out a bit but not as much as I would like.

Here is my photo for today...

Well, I usually start out by dropping a control point in the middle of the line. If I want to bring up the shadows, then I'll start by lifting the midtones to see if they need to come up as well, and then I'll drop another control point at the 3/4 tone mark and lift that one a bit. I then work between those two points until I get what I want. I also usually end up dropping a third point in the quarter tones to maintain control over the lighter parts of the image. It's rare that I need more than three points.

Wow thanks for this...just used it to bring back this image, not a great image but a good one to practice this on.....thanks for sharing this Phrasikleia

It's your work monitor. I use a regularly calibrated 30" ACD, and viewing the original photo reveals individual feather detail in the black area.

Got it, I'll check at home later (calibrated monitor).
I really like the shot.

Upon getting home and checking on both my monitors (calibrated 2 weeks ago with Spyder-3), I still felt just slightly dark by the beak feathers and more detail might be there.
I did quick PP in Aperture 3 and sent mikeschmeee a PM with my thoughts.

Another photo from the ALMS race, this of the race winner at the top of the Corkscrew late in the race.

Since it was raining outside, I decided to play around with subtle lighting inside. It took several tries before I finally got something close to what I was looking for. I also wanted a shot that didn't require much editing to clean up, and I at least got that part right.

Touched it up in CS2 with some light curves adjustments and light shadow/highlight. Looking into taking a intro photoshop class somewhere.

Getting better? I hope?
