My daughter had to put her German Shepard down today. She had developed bone cancer. Bogey was one of the most sweetest and gentlest dogs I have ever come in contact with. She would let my daughter's crawling infants climb over her, pull her ears and tail and never growl or move away. Anyway, here is a tribute to our sweet Bogey from a prior photo. Have fun in puppy heaven.

My condolences! Really, I know all too well how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. Her demeanor sounds just like a dog I grew up with. I remember driving matchbook cars all over our dog when I was a kid, and she just lay there, patiently putting up with it. Your photo really conveys a sense of Bogey's personality.

Thanks!

The same location, while I was already on my way out with my stuff packed, quickly grabbed again my camera, handheld (previous post was with tripod).

Another very nice documentary-style shot. You're good at this!

Stupidity wrecked the shot. I wondered how, given the light over there was better - did I still need to use ISO12800 to get 1/30sec with F/4.0?

At last minute, I checked the filter holder. Had the 8x ND still in the thing.

Been there, done that. ::::sigh:::::

Nice! It's almost like the clouds we're cooperating to cover that blemish on the mountain for you! :p

Amazing colours. Take a photo of a group of people here and all you'll see is black (and maybe some blue jeans).

Here's a shot off the back porch into the woods the other day as it was snowing in the sunshine

Thanks, though you have me scratching my head. Clouds? Blemish? I remember being inclined to trade a limb or two for some clouds that day. Weather report was completely wrong, and I got nothing but blank skies. So if you see any clouds, your imagination is very much in tune with my wishes! :)

I found this tiny ‘house’ in the woods. And it really is tiny (just big enough to store a pair of walking boots, or a man’s head  ... or maybe the crock of gold that you find at the end of the rainbow). And there’s a lock on the door. I’m intrigued. :)

Aha - now the bug has bitten you as well! :D Nice shot. Now, you must hire a helicopter, as one of the other 'famous' photographers often does. ;) The A380 is quite impressive when you see it lifting off the runway from the front. The wings are huge! But my favourites is the McDonnell Douglas MD-11. Its infamous takeoff performance is the stuff of legend! ;)

I was trying to capture the retro-themed Thai B747-400 last night from the other side of the airport. Stupidity wrecked the shot. I wondered how, given the light over there was better - did I still need to use ISO12800 to get 1/30sec with F/4.0?

At last minute, I checked the filter holder. Had the 8x ND still in the thing. And of course, the normal filter was put away in the box, in the back of the car - some 5 minutes walk away. Argh! Stupid stupid stupid! But it happens when you are tired I guess.

Good thing is I can easily track the movements of that plane and I'll photograph it again another time. I'll get it this afternoon at another location standing on a ladder, but sadly in daylight, rather than at night.

Spotters standing on ladders and the B777. Quite a few well known photographers in that one photo.

Thanks, still nowhere near your signature style.
Panning and tracking is a lot harder than I was expecting, and my rusted tripod needs lubing up for slow speed movement.
You have quite the skill!
Ah yes, it's such an easy mistake to make sometimes :p

A friend of mine (who's a Sydney local) and I went to the T1 observation deck but there wasn't a decent view to see the planes actually taking off the runway, they'd appear from behind the airport building to the right and by that stage would already be in the air (eg my previous pic).
We went over the canal to a boat ramp (around the area you recommended to me previously) which seemed to be a lot better in terms of seeing planes take off and land, but the sun was setting over to the west, so next time!

That's a super pic you have there, just amazing, where was this one taken?

By the time we made it back to the car and over to that other side of the canal there were still planes landing into the evening, the sun was setting so the inner reef got the best of me... you can see the trail of a plane taking off in the background ;)

Unbelievable!!! That shot is about the best I've seen of any you've posted on here. Super! :)

And yes, it's fun to look back on silly little mistakes like that - but I was properly cross with myself yesterday.

TheReef: That photo was taken from the beach car park, just along side the Air Services Australia building where the old air-traffic control tower is.

Nice photo from the boat-ramp too. :) It's a great location in the morning, especially if you have a 600mm lens - you can photograph both runway 34 left (the longest runway) and 34 right (the one closest to you). You can also frame the numerous Global Express and Gulfstream G550 bizjets really well too with such a lens.

Since it's a new day here, I'll include one more photo from yesterday:

ISO250, 1/125sec, F/6.3, 200mm. Nikon D3s + AF Nikkor 70-300mm F4-5.6G

Adagold's A340 and two of the four CFM International hair-dryers. Though they might be dismissively called that, they are still well powerful enough to blow unwary photographers off dodgy make-shift elevated platforms (two crates stacked on top of each other). I found those conveniently located right where they were needed and they seemed a better option than the ladder.

Taken on iPhone 4. New Year's day - first time we'd seen the sun for several days. Note that there are people in the water ...

I thought that shadow in the upper left area was cast by a cloud (out of the frame) but I guess it's just naturally shaded by the angle of the sun on the mountain. :) At any rate, the lighting on the scene is perfect!

My first thought... I think it's a hobbit hole! :D (Seriously though... very intriguing!)

Nice pic! At a guess, I'd say it's an ice house. Here's one from around my locality, which was used to keep lamb:

I really like the framing of the main object here and the depth into the photo it allows at such a short scale, and I also particularly like how the almost-bluish tint of the fern leaves compliments the bright blue of the door. Well done!

Or probably a couple of Hobbits!! :)

Hi Doylem,

That's on the path on the west side of Windermere isn't it? Used to have a caravan on the site on the other side of the path. If memory serves it is either an electricity or water control box. It was once opened up for repairs and there wasn't really that much in there. My parents used to say it was Mrs Tinywinkle's cottage (Beatrix Potter reference).....
