Nikon D40. Nikkor 50mm F1.4. 1/15

Usually I try to avoid black boarders, but my framing wasn't great, so I cut the bottom and added space at the top. But I guess I could have just cropped it

I like it. Perhaps it's even better without the black.
Is it a Casio? Reminds me that we have one at home as well. Thanks for the inspiration I might copy/steal the idea.

I'm really enjoying your Australian pics otter, where abouts were the red sands taken?
I assume not Uluru as you haven't posted a pic of it. :)
I don't mind the central framing, I love how all the lines lead from the central tree and that rich red sand.

Simple and powerful, I looked at it the other way around, and liked it better.
Then I looked at it again, and now I prefer the original...

I like the opposing diagonals, looks like he's having a good time.

Surf's up in sunny Florida.

Mmm, nice. Summer is approaching down here

They don't make buildings like these anymore.

No they don't do they! what an interesting colour for a building.

I really like the feel to this image, the warm car headlights contrasting with the cool atmosphere and a great focal point with successful leading lines.
My only issue is the shallow dof @ f1.8, of course this is subjective, perhaps a tripod could have worked for this. Great work nonetheless.

Gorgeous day out there yesterday.

It sure looks like it :)
Ok, I'm seeing a slight red cast here. Maybe we're both off, 95% it's just me ;)

There's something very appealing about this: the pose, the simple composition, the restricted colour palette...

Strange... the clouds look like you've smeared margarine onto a sheet of glass...

I like this too; the people put everything into context...

What a wonderful location! I wish I was there with my tripod. A bit more care with the shot, with a tripod, and you'd have a winner..

Just another version of what I posted the other day...

Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, Oregon

Cannon Beach is a magical place... if you've been there, you know what I mean, if you haven't, you should make a point to visit.

I was unbelievably lucky on Friday to have some sunny weather. At this time of year, that's a rarity. :)

Thanks TheReef. The recent images with red sands, and this one for today, are all from Karijini National Park in Western Australia. Great place if you ever get the chance to go, but not easy to get to.

Wow, excellent shot and moment.

Thanks, soLoredd!

TheReef, it may not be 95% just you. I did pump some extra red into that shot, for reasons I won't bore you with, and I may have gone too far with it.

Doylem, yes, seriously groovy clouds, and I got a lot of mileage out of them that day. I hadn't seen clouds like that in a long time, yet there I was (along with another very avid photographer) stuck on a boat with few options for taking pictures. But I snapped away and was pleased when I got back to my computer to find I'd actually gotten some shots worth keeping.

Here's one from that day that includes Alcatraz:

Playing with high ISOs

I was bored one evening and started experimenting with the Hi-1 ISO setting on my D3000, which, I believe, pumps up the ISO to the equivalent of 3200, and the noise reduction turned off. I kind of like how it turned out! I like how as the body of the guitar fades into the background, it gets noisier and noisier, until it's kind of indistinguishable from the background. I think it gives it a cool modernist look — and it's a cool contrast to the Goldtop's curves.

Virtual- I enjoyed this picture. My wife and I took a trip down the Pacific coast a short while ago and I captured the fog rolling in on Arizona Beach in southern Oregon. Your photo brought back some great memories:

^^^^ Thanks... the coast of Oregon and Northern California is a fantastic place for good photos - as you know! :). I have a few from the weekend which I hope are equally as enjoyable that I'll post in the days ahead.

I was kind of scrambling for my daily picture today. I took a few while I was out at an most-of-the-day meeting, but none of them really did much for me. When I got home I walked out into the backyard, looked up at one of my colorful trees, and took this.

Taken from iPhone on plane to New York

I had to make an account to post on this thread (I've been meaning too all along.) I thought this was a very cool picture I took using my iPhone.
