Limestone islands off the coast of Marseille, France...

Northern bush camp. Last winter.

Revisiting older shots to try to learn what I could have done differently. Needed wider aperture and shorter exposure for this one. The longer exposure allowed for a number of "hot pixels". Of course, it was -20C at the time.

My younger daughter followed me around the Henry Ford Museum while I carried my tripod and camera. While I took pictures she drew one. I have lots of bracketed photos of museum items to process, but I knew this one was going to be a keeper as soon as I took it (not bracketed).

A definite keeper! Love the wallpaper (?) in the background. Maybe crop a little on the left hand side of the frame??? Or not.:)

Evidently someone thinks certain shots are not so great, witnessing the -1 etc markings... It's a shame that voting isn't public.

Very interesting depth of field. Nice capture. Never mind the silly -1 someone gave you. :)

^^^Wonderful golden hues on the rocks.

I learned to love fog this year...

A candidate for a new Mac OS X wallpaper? It has the right kind of ambience. :)

Love it. The light and the composition.
Did you show it to her, and what did she think of it?

Unfortunately, the auto-TIMG add-on for Firefox does not work with version 8, so I can't quote the images properly. :( Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, TheReef! ;)

Now I know where I need to plan a trip to. Slovenia not California :)

A few years ago it was known as Europe's best-kept secret, but judging by the numbers of tourists I'm seeing here these days, the cat is out of the bag. Maybe I shouldn't have been showing people so many photos of the country! :p

One of the shots I took of Ringo Starr performing here last friday. Not the greatest, but hey, I only had 50mm and was about 15 meters away from the stage. Cropped a bit.

With a Little Help... by Hisdem, on Flickr

You shouldn't start out by condemning your photo like that! I think it's great. That background is extremely dynamic, and you got a great exposure in a very challenging situation.

I love how the green sweater contrasts with the red surroundings. Great light and composition. Terrific shot.

You just reminded me that I haven't changed my computer's wallpaper in two and half years!

Once again you have me staring at the screen in awe at the image you have created, well done.

Many thanks, LumbermanSVO! Shooting the fog has been a revelatory experience for me. I can't believe it took me this long to explore the possibilities. It's probably old hat for a lot of people, but for me it's like a whole new frontier. :)

A really striking shot, helped by the soft lighting and the colour palette. The rich, warm colours are the colours you find on the covers of old books, a feeling that's accentuated by the old handwriting on the wall. Your daughter looks relaxed, composed, absorbed, self-contained, unposed; the words on the wall could almost be her thoughts made visible... or the thoughts of everyone who's ever sat on that bench. Even the pink pen 'works'. Don't crop anything off it. Just make a big print, put a frame around it and give it pride of place over the mantlepiece.

I've got version 8 and it's working for me...

Thanks for the compliments on my daughter's photo. It really helps to get affirmation that I took a good picture. :)

Probably not, based on the other reactions. :)

She liked it, of course. We like to go back and forth with her drawings and my photos. I should scan some of her drawings and share them, too.

Thank you!

My other kids might get jealous that I don't have one of them in a good picture like that one... :)

I was quite impressed with this large stationary steam engine. It had a Gothic look to it from arches on the sides. This isn't the best angle to show off the arches, though, but the stairs leading to the top stood out a lot, too.
