It's really small, did a little measuring in photoshop, with the 314 mm wide 13 rMBP aligned under it, the 12.5 MBA should be about just 280-282 mm wide!

Did the comparison with the iPad which is 240mm long, same result!

For a 12.5 inch screen, the left and right display bezel should be almost gone! Beauty is coming!

Just gonna wait for the 15 rMBP and 27 retina iMac to adopt the same language!

very disappointed with the illuminated logo going. Its interesting how apple is breaking its own design standards to achieve even thinner products . When is the last time an apple laptop didn't have a illuminated logo?

This product might be the bridge between iOS and OS X devices, maybe rumours that apple drops Intel could come true.

And to everyone complaining about not seeing the ports, this is the top half of the laptop, the bottom part has the ports ;)

i don't think they will remove the illumination logo...bec is not related to the thickness Is theirs trademark

What I'd like to know is what are they hiding by blurring/pixelizing the heck out of the bottom areas?

I'm guessing there are some distinguishing marks/stickers that would give the game away. The fact that they're there at all probably gives the game away to a certain extent.

With Apple, nothing like that is sacred. If it can be removed for a better reason (e.g. packaging, energy consumption) they will remove it.

Remember the iconic sleep light on older macs? The glow was one of my favourite aesthetic features, whether iMac, PowerBook or still on the classic 13" Macbooks. But they killed it on the Retina machines and the iMac. Same with the LED battery indicator when they moved to sealed batteries.

The next mac mini?

I've been following these MB Air rumours to decide if I should buy a 11" Air now or wait.

I've recently bought the 11" Air. Why? Because it sounds like the 12" Air will be worse than the 11" it replaces - Core-M, no TB. Just like the latest mac mini is worse than the one it replaced.

You can see the top bezels thanks to the flash but I don't have any measurements tools as I am on the go but I think it would be possible to estimate the width based on the expected 12 inch display..
Still hard to figure the bezels/screen dimensions after playing on the levels of this photo for me.

But with the two other photos with the iPad and the rMBP13, one can infer an approximation of the dimensions of this device: I get about 283mm x 201mm.
If we then take the dimensions of the rMBP13 screen bezels as reference, the screen would measure about 255mm x 161mm i.e. ~11.9" (1.584:1).

So given the approximations and the bezel dimensions supposition to obtain this result, it seems to be a 8:5 screen like the rMBPs. And the last question is now what resolution Apple would decide to use for an OS X ~12" notebook; hopefully 2560x1600 (~250 ppi) and not the rumored 2304x1440 resolution in 2013 (simply the same pixel density as the rMBPs).

display is thicker than iPad 2 and way thicker than macbook air

Has anyone else noticed how thick the supposed 12" display is?

If you go to the website with all the photos, there's one photo comparing it to the thickness of the iPad Air 2 and it's thicker...

Considering how thin the screen is on the Macbook Air now, it's WAY thicker!

Could they be stuffing internals on the back of the screen? Or perhaps is this the iPad / Macbook all-in-one?

lol and the illuminated apple logo improves performance how, exactly? It's an eyesore that should've been removed forever ago.

The display isn't thicker at all, it just uses a metal hinge. It's clearly shown in the photos that the display is thinner than the iPad Air 2 next to it.

Random question:

How come laptops don't have mobile Internet compatibility and a sim card slot? Always wondered that. It obviously fits into tablets so why not laptops and a laptop is a PORTABLE device and would be perfect for a small air like this.

Battery life?

Specs wise the Dell will probs still kill the 12" MBA. No way Apple will release a screen as good, or compromise on the aesthetics with as many ports as the dell.

The new Dell looks great, I just wish it was as light as the new Lenovo LaVie Z.

It'll be back in two revisions or less. They'll realize it was a mistake, like the disappearing backlit keyboard. ;)

I don't think they'll realize it was a mistake. I think Apple purposefully leaves out features in early versions so they can introduce it later. I think they're planning all along, as you said, to include it in a revision or two. Also, I'd rather have an illuminated logo than a backlit keyboard.

So glad they have ditched the silver bezel. That's the one thing I've never liked about my MBA. Always been jealous about the MBPs black screen bezel.

Don't care about the illuminated logo. I don't need a lit up apple ad on my laptop.

Looks like a 16x10 aspect ratio. While I love the 16x9 of my 11" MBA, I must admit that you really do lose a lot of vertical space, especially on web pages. If it's a smaller device than the 11" then I'm all for it. My wife's 13" MBA is just way too massive.

I didn't really like those mockups that did the rounds a week or two ago. Just looked like a smaller version with no ports. I have been hoping for more of a redesign, especially in regards to the bezel, so if this is real then I'm happy.

Desperate to see the rest of it!

Looks nice. Seems like this would cannibalize rMBP sales heavily. A lot of people I know only have an rMBP for the nicer display and would otherwise have an Air. I'm using a borrowed one. I'd be totally fine with an Air with a retina display IFF it had the same ports as it has now, and anyone else who doesn't care about the status symbol factor would too. Well, some (including me) also like the rMBP design a little better, but whatever. This new Air looks more like the rMBP anyway.

I don't need the extra power, nor do most people. Those few people who need the extra power might not get it... Apple could kill off the MBP line. Tech always sucks for whoever is in the minority.

P.S. The pictures of the prototype in the car suggest the setting of a robbery and a getaway.

It introduces complications, and you can always get something separately that connects with USB or wifi, including a smartphone, so it's not completely necessary. It would cost extra to pay for a separate plan instead of sharing a smartphone's connection. A possible marketing-related reason: Apple selling a laptop with a mobile data connection could eat into iPad sales.

It does look good on the surface but when you delve a bit deeper it has some compromises which ruin it - 8GB RAM limit, reportedly average trackpad etc. And it's not a MBA competitor really (price wise), more a rMBP competitor.

Of course at the end of it all, it runs Windows, which is enough to ruin any decent hardware... ;)

it is suppose to have a smartphone and have data from there..why to have a sim card

What's the point of that - if anything, it's battery saving (highly appreciated) feature :)

I don't think it saves any energy. The light shining through the logo just comes from the display's backlight. If I'm wrong, at least that was true with older MacBooks.

Great.. I was hoping for no glass. Sick of glare and reflections. Bring back matte/antiglare options!

If it comes with now ancient iOS operating system i will skip.

Please, give us proper OS for device that large!
But they will not as it would eat sales of laptops.
