Im buying this :) I dont care about lack of inputs, I cant remember last time I connected anything else than my iphone to transfer images and the power for my current MB air. Now with the the Photos App coming, I dont need to connect anything except charging.

It's really small, did a little measuring in photoshop, with the 314 mm wide 13 rMBP aligned under it, the 12.5 MBA should be about just 280-282 mm wide!

Did the comparison with the iPad which is 240mm long, same result!

I did the same for the depth and got 200mm. So a bit less than 10mm deeper than an 11" MBA, but 20mm narrower. If the screen diagonal goes up by about 10mm, we can hope for thinner bezel.

It should allow for the same keyboard if they reduce the space in the sides.

For me the key question remains unanswered: is the rumor that there will be very few (just 1 ?) ports true ???

I use multiple USB ports all the time, and I like to sync my iPhone to my computer. Lack of ports is just another reason why this computer is not for me.

I rather have Mac Pro black like this:

Now that would be a fingerprint-magnet.

How could Apple POSSIBLY offer a Mac that compromises on ports??

I know SOME people want maximum portability and simplicity, but not everyone has the same goals.

Are they killing the rest of their notebook lineup? Hint: no

Edit: I read on to see that your comment was sarcasm, my bad.

It's really interesting that there's a 12" MBA and a 12" iPad on the horizon to me...

Seemed/Seems like a perfect opportunity to explore convertible options, especially with a pen driver.

Ports

The difference between the macbook pros and airs isn't much now days. So it make sense to have less on an Air. But having the original Air, which I still use on occasion, with one USB (plus monitor port) and power as its only ports. One port just isn't enough, even you can't remember ever plugging anything into your laptop other power. Its just far too limiting. Unless its just, as the original air was, just intended as a mobile computer to go with your real computer that mostly sits on your desk - whither that iMac or Macbook Pro. But with this you're still stuck when you battery is very low and that's inevitably when you need to plug something in.

Didn't we hear a rumor a few months back that the next gen apple logo would only light up around the edges? The outline of the Apple? I bet that's what we're looking at here. And it's about time they ditch the gray bezel for the all glass cover. That's the only thing I don't love about my 2010 mba. (Which still works flawlessly, btw. It will be hard to justify the upgrade). Now just hoping for Touch ID on the trackpad!

its a new display....

My theory is...

The apple logo is backlit by the same backlight that lits the display...
but what if the display is an amoled one? (like used on the apple watch?)

It doesn't have a backllight and thin enough for the use.
Moreover adding illumination to logo, in case of amoled, might require and additional led and refractive backing which might sacrifice on thinness..

So, They had to forgo the light.

Importantly what on the right and left bottom corners of the display. (backside)
Apple would not do any markings at that location usually.

Any ideas guys..?

MBA
1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz
Intel HD Graphics 5000
4GB memory
128GB PCIe-based flash storage

MBP
2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
16GB 1600MHz memory
512GB PCIe-based flash storage
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M

I would say there is quite a difference.

I'm going to stick my nose out here and say that this mystical 12-inch MacBook Air is actually the mystical 12-inch iPad Pro.

Anyone?

Makes sense to me.

Lack of illuminating logo is VERY disappointing design wise..
Also lack of ports as it's been rumored will be a big negative.

Oh God no! The bezel provides a barrier between the content on the screen and the chaos of the outside world. It needs at least SOME bezel on the sides.

The one reason I can see having no side bezels is if you use two displays side-by-side.

You'll get use to it.

Why cant they just bloody make a tablet that runs full blown OSX... sick of them just making the same thing over and over again in different versions and sizes.. or maybe they like to copy the Angry Birds way.

get it sorted Apple.

I'm still using my 2011 13" MBA it's the best laptop I've ever owned. This 12" Air will be its replacement IF the keyboard is stretched edge to edge like the display. I've tried typing on the 11" MBA keyboard and the keys are way too crammed together. It's frustrating. I'll also have to see the 12" display in person and see if it's too small, again the 11" is far too small this 13" is just right. I'm also leery of buying revision A Apple products...

I'm hoping for the best! :)

Uh... don't have any idea what you're talking about.

The keys on the 11 inch MacBook air are just as wide and tall as the ones on the 13 inch MacBook air, except for the top row function keys, which are about half as tall.

Mark my words people. The two are the same. Meaning, the rumored iPad Pro and 12" MBA. It will be a 12" iPad Pro that converts to a laptop. Much like the MS tablets.

so....i guess no more illuminating logo on the back?

This is innovation? Meanwhile in other tech news, Google is working on driverless cars and CP3 robots, and Microsoft is working to covert our lives into a holographic minority report world that aims to blow your minds.

How many driverless cars has Google sold so far?

It's not innovation if I cannot buy it.

Funny. I can't see why Apple would ever feel the need to create a larger iPad "Pro" with a keyboard (running iOS) when a same-size Macbook Air exists (running OS X, a full-fledged OS). Say what you will about "I can use the same apps on my iPad!" but the iPad will never be a suitable replacement for the Air until it runs OS X... And at that point, it'll just be a Macbook Air with a detachable keyboard, which oh - requires everything to be in the main housing (sacrificing thinness, battery life, etc.). And when has Apple ever hinted that iOS and OS X are going to join? Oh, that's right: never.

All incoming flaming aside, I think it would be great to see Apple take some market share away from Microsoft, but I honestly have never heard people say, "I'm buying a Surface Tablet instead of an iPad because it comes with a keyboard." It's typically about OS preferences, and of all places, Macrumors should know all about that. ;)

My bet is that there is either a battery of a CPU behind the screen, making the MBA super thin.
Of course there won't be any ports. Essentially, apple will kill the ports on 12 MBA so that people who use them will have to invest into MBP. Makes a lot of sense from sales perspective.

Crippling otherwise desirable products just to try to force someone to buy something they don't really want ... is not good from a sales or business perspective.

Like when the 2010 11-inch MacBook air came out without a backlit keyboard, I didn't buy the 13 inch because I wanted that feature, instead ... I bought neither.

I just waited a year for the next 11 inch model to come out that did have a backlit keyboard.
