Wasn't the liquid metal "sim eject tool" for the iPhone a little bit darker gray color similar to this? Not saying it's Liquidmetal, but perhaps Apple is testing the water for this type of colored material in the iPhone 6. I think the iPhone 6 will use the Liquidmetal for the enclosure because it's seamless, strong and radio-transparent.

I think the graphite looks great. It reminds me of the first generation iPhone with the black bars. I loved that thing and it's still sitting on my desk at home. Would it be anodized that color or is there something you can mix into aluminum to make it little darker without anodization? I want something that doesn't scratch easily but isn't white either. Then I would go caseless. The black iPhone 5 scratches so easy, especially along the chamfered edges. My wife went caseless for a couple weeks after getting her 5 and it was awful. I'm pretty sure mine has some light scratches even though I only take the case off to clean it.

This graphite looks strikingly similar to the bezel of an iPhone 4/4S. Now then, only the quality to match (make it resistant to scratches) and I'd buy it in a heartbeat! This looks freaking awesome!

well at my last job at an ad agency we had a drawer full of em. I'd say those sim eject tools were more of a glossy silver. But then I always end up using a paper clip anyway.

Just please...stop.

Hipster does not now, nor did it ever, mean "someone who likes a thing that exists."

I'm getting tired of seeing this word posted on every freaking news story on the internet, no matter what site I'm on.

Hipsters gonna complain...

and

Hipsters going to upvote posts about complaints about use of word "hipster."

it makes sense if the champagne & Graphite are the only new two colors because:

-Most of us who own the crappy black/slate iPhone would prefer the Graphite.Meaning, Graphite is the new slate.

-for the hipsters who own the white iPhone 5, Champagne is your new color or go get the white iPhone 5C Kid!

Graphite=The New Slate
Champagne=The New White

Agree - but why are they still doing this. I stopped since my iphone 5. these phones are commodities now. It's not the jewel I had when I had first generation iphone. I will replace it after a year or two.

And - the casing is much less damage prone than earlier.

The only reason i see - for a case is extra power or against water/sand when on vacation etc. For regular use a rubber casing is just stupid.

I still think having many colors is a bit silly since most people I know accessorize their phone by putting it in a case anyway, but I do like the graphite.

----------

Agree!

They still need to differentiate between size. If they'd release a 5" they would reclaim a large part from samsung and other android-makers. I believe they will. But maybe late 2014.

I love the look of these new iPhones but I'm worried that all they shown so far is new colors and the fingerprint sensor. Is that really all there's going to be? Everything else seems like just the normal state of upgrades. Better processors and better cameras. I'm looking for something at least makes me want to buy a new phone and the fingerprint sensor isn't it. Also, why no leaks of new sizes? I don't think it is wise for Apple to deny that a certain segment of people want larger phones, just like they acknowledged the need for the smaller iPad.

Nothing I have seen so far makes me want to buy a new phone or iPad and I have bought the most expensive version of every non-computer device they have offered since the iPhone 1.

liquid métal

are we looking at liquid metal alloys of different colors? None of the brittleness of anodized metal parts with all of the durable properties.

The Graphite version is reminiscent of the original iPhone. This may be my new phone in a few weeks. :apple:

Then I thought, it also looks like a black and white iPhone had a baby (isn't that the color of the back of a white iphone, with black parts?)

Then I thought, that backplate probably just hasn't gone through the anondization process.

I thought the same that it hadn't been through the anondization process. I can remember seeing a picture somewhere of a black & slate iPhone where the owner had removed all of the slate anodised colouring, from what I can remember, it was a very similar colour to the 5S graphite colour.

The back of the white iPhone is silver in colour, not graphite :)

Sorry...doesn't make sense to me. Why do people think the 5S can only be offered in 2 colors?

And you know for a fact the new colors are anodised do you? No I didn't think so.

No, of course I don't know for a fact the new colors are anodized. We don't even know for sure there will be any new colors. But there are only so many ways to color aluminum. Anodization and plain old paint or powder coating are about it. There is not really any way to through-color aluminum, at least not on a large scale. It has to either be painted (or powder coated) which is a coating on the surface of course. Or it can be anodized which chemically changes the surface of the aluminum and adds color if desired. The problem with both these is that the underlying metal is still aluminum which is relatively soft and therefore easily scratched or chipped.

Graphite/Black and Gold/White

Somehow it appears to me graphite/black just looks pretty much the same as slate/black. Apple can only do black or white glass, not other colors?
If it's graphite, why not just on smoke glass instead to separate it from Slate/black? Also, Gold/white is lame. I think it'll look better with gold/black. But the best should be Gold/copper. If Jony Ive understood the color schemes so well on iOS7, he should know that Gold should not go with white, but something else in the color family like deep brass, rust or copper. Color scheme should be either contrast or close family in color wheel and so far Apple got it right with iPhone 5: Slate/black and Silver/white. Can some phone photoshop it for Gold/copper and Graphite/smoke

I emailed Tim Cook in December last year (without a response) to encourage him to offer a "platinum" version in this iteration of the iPhone. Not only would this be a different color, but have "platinum" features. I can't wait to see if these "graphite", "champagne" or hopefully "platinum" versions offer higher specs than the black/white combination. Went on to discuss some higher spec options, but yeah, no response from Mr Cook.

Wait, did you just complain about something getting too many votes...in other words, you complained about something being popular?

You've become what you hate most! Oh, the cruel irony.

do not assume to know what I dislike.

On topic: Graphite phone looks great, very pro-hipster.

(I never used hipster as a negative, only certain folks assumed I did)

Am I the only one who is astonished by the tons of leaked photos lately? For sure times have changed (at the latest since Tim doubled down on secrecy...).
