yeah!
right now, the hardware in the iPhone is really good and they are probably going to build in new graphics and processor but what i really need is something where i think like WOAH! just because the last year update was tiny!

Ya, I wasn't planning on buying the 4S but my 4 kinda freaked out on me - something got stuck in the dock connector and caused my phone to think it was constantly connected to a dock even though it wasn't. Apple tried cleaning it out for me but to no avail.

LTE alone would be enough for me to upgrade. My iPad is lightning quick and I have LTE coverage most everywhere I go (DFW metro). The larger screen, NFC/iWallet and faster guts are all added benefits.

Speaking of LTE - aside from the fact the last iPhone release was kinda off time-wise, you think Apple deliberately waited on LTE for this new super-efficient Qualcomm chip? Once again, an example of Apple waiting for the stable (and more efficient) tech before implementing change as opposed to throwing a brand new component in for the sake of being first.

well, i don't really know if LTE would work with my carrier in the city i live (europe) but i would be happy. NFC rumor sounds great but i still don't know if there are enough stores, etc. to use it here in my country but it would be a step in the right direction!

Oh ya, personally I think NFC is novelty. The swipeless chips in credit cards aren't even widely accepted here in the US. But the iWallet, imho, is going to be a whole new "revolutionary" way to pay taking lessons from what does work about virtual payments now and adding the Apple touch. Obviously they weren't the first, but once again they'll be the ones to perfect it and bring it into the mainstream.

the thing is: apple is not really going forward in my country (austria) - in germany you can (like in the u.s.) download tv shows - germany is a country next to us, same language and we are still waiting for that but i hope they are going to push that passbook thing forward because it looked epic at the keynote! come on apple, bring it hard this time!

yeah you are right. i mean the iPhone 4S has a great design and i really like it, i just want something new to unbox :)

i'll bring the beer!

pass on the word.. i live in PA

only difference is we'll be speaking english

At least nobody will be tempted to copy the iPhone 5 design given how ugly it looks with the long thin design. Think I'll keep my 3GS for another year and keep my fingers crossed that they come up with another design next year.

looks like it is NFC - I just hope they had time to put authentec fingerprint hidden somewhere (maybe one of the glass/plastic panels on the back or even the home button) bc without that I'd never feel safe using it for transactions.

How about waiting till you can see it in the flesh. Then, knock it if you still don't like it.

I think it's going to look awesome with the new screen. Tall and thin will look sleek, high-end, and premium. And, of course, nicer to use without feeling like you're carrying a tablet around in your pocket.

Most likely anything that would be using NFC as a wallet would be passcode protected already.

Looks too similar to the 4/4S :(

yeah they could have put in some more work in that regard.. but if you remember the main difference in looks for 3gs to the 4 was the sides and the back and that is what we are seeing now also new side and new back.. the taller screen and smaller home button are subtle changes to the front

Reading through all of these posts in response to the iPhone rumors cracks me up. "WHY AREN'T THEY REDESIGNING THE PHONE!!!" "ITS BORING"....give me a break.

Apple has never been one to change or add features for the sake of changing or adding features - and this is why they have one of the most popular and imho stable smartphones/mobile os combos out on the market.
Well, yes and no. I for one am happy with the fact that they've settled for the aluminum/black design on the Macs. It's on, what, its 5th year now and still feels fresh, or rather, timeless.

But this isn't the Mac market for devotees, this is about mobile devices. Devices that sell by the truckloads to non-fans of Apple. Fickle customers who see these devices as both accessories and utilities. This has been reflected in the designs; the iPod Nano for example has been radically redesigned every time. The iPhone, thus far, has been rebuilt/redesigned from scratch twice. There was the original, the 3G/3GS and the 4/4S. If the '5' will indeed look like this, it marks the first time that they've pretty much stayed with the last major design revision, and next fall there'll probably be a 5S if they stick to the established pattern. 2010-2014 with roughly the same design seems kinda risky. They could of course compete with cutting edge specs, but knowing Apple, they don't play that game...

I will certainly go and see what it looks like in the flesh the very first day it's in the shops but honestly I'm not getting my hopes up. I very much doubt it will look all that different to the mockups given past experience.

I passed on the iPhone 4 and 4S because I really didn't like the design so I was hopeful that after 2 years we would see a radically new design. If not I think the 3GS might well be my final iPhone before I make the switch to another brand. There are so many great look smartphones out there now I think the iPhone 5 is going to have a real run for it's money.

Then buy another phone, stop complaining. Apple doesn't design phones for you personally.

Uuuuhhh.....

It looks weird because what you're seeing over top of the single camera hole is the reflection of the camera portion of the phone the guy was taking the photo with.

...No!! That is where the retinal scanner is!! :)

I just find it amazing how some people automatically think that this phone isn't the "iPhone 5" just because as it looks the physical design isn't totally different. No matter what the heck could be inside, it could be the most powerful phone in existence yet because the design might not totally different this should be the second iPhone 4S or something dumb like that.

The insides is what makes a phone or tech product really great. Not how it is "dressed."

With my experience in NFC chips (I have written master thesis in NFC mobile ticketing) my guess is "yes". NFC chips are usually made in square format and all those I come in contact with (mobile related) are about this size.

That would be huge surprise. I thought for sure we wouldn't see NFC until at least the "S" model, if not the refresh after that. Thanks for ur educated input!!

I have a feeling that it's going to be a LOT more beautiful then the rumors and mocks we've seen here. I wasnt a huge fan of the 4 design (like many others) until I held it in my hand...and we all know how that turned out. Apple knows what they're up against this year and they will not disappoint. Wait and see. It's gonna the best phone yet.

apple fanboy life cycle: (iphone rumor here) RAGEEE,hates it, refer to gay crush Steve jobs would do or say.

Phone releases: Creams pants, buys one.

begins complaining about next iphone rumor.

personally anything bigger screen wise is welcome. i don't care by how much or in what dimension.

give the phone more balls. aka cpu clock boost, ram increase whatever. im happy.

"a full GB around" would be nice this time 1.0 dual core 1gb ram. more is always welcome but its apple.

you passed up the 4 and 4s(2 years of waiting) and now going to wait another year till the 5s? They wont change the design next year so your waiting 4 years for a Possible design change to something that of the 3 and 3s...
Id make the switch now because i think they wont ever go back to what the 3 and 3s looked like. They look cheap. plastic cracks( i replaced 4 phones over 2 year span for cracked plastic) and the ugly chrome bezel that got scratched easily from cases.... The 3g and 3gs look horrible in comparison to the 4 and 4s. In terms of materials used on the outside its a huge jump. I personally loved the 4 design coming from the plastic iphone days. I dont understand how people prefer that design over the 4,4/s. I think i will like the new design i was hoping for a complete redesign so im a little disappointed but i think i will still like it. Much better then the 3,3/s days for sure.
im surprised youve held out this long with a 3gs. the screen itself is horrible.

I wonder if Tim made a mistake when he said "double down" on product security....got his card games mixed up?

Seems like the home button is the only part of the iphone that still looks the same as on the original iPhone.

I just don't know what were you expecting. A paper thin, transparent, flexible device?

I'm not criticizing, i'm just making a statement. The design is the same so ill keep my iPhone another year, that's it.

From the question on the translated site asking why the NFC sensor was on the front?
I thought they meant the black area on the other side highlighted yellow.
Now I wonder if that might be Authentec fingerprint sensor?
Given the way their tech works their sensor should be able to pick up an ear and act as a more reliable proximity sensor.
