Reading through all of these posts in response to the iPhone rumors cracks me up. "WHY AREN'T THEY REDESIGNING THE PHONE!!!" "ITS BORING"....give me a break.
Apple has never been one to change or add features for the sake of changing or adding features - and this is why they have one of the most popular and imho stable smartphones/mobile os combos out on the market. I own many Apple devices and love the eco-system. I don't want them to be more like android or completely redesign the phone just because today's society/mobile community screams for it (Android).
If you want widgets and an open source albeit less stable version of iOS, buy an Android phone. I'm perfectly content checking the weather with an additional swipe of my finger rather than having a widget suck the battery dry.
P.S. I recently bought a Nexus 7 to see what all the fuss is about and Jellybean is impressive (though I didn't have high expectations). It is much smoother than previous iterations and when this version of Android becomes the norm (I believe it is on less than 1% of android devices) I'll gladly welcome it as a worthy competitor to iOS (in terms of stability and flow). However, the fact that JB is only on about 1% of Android devices is really and truly the biggest issue and one would need to look no further than customer retention surveys to realize that this is the (general) flow of mobile phones these days:
New android phone is released almost every 2 months -> salespeople talk consumers into the "latest and greatest" -> consumer is disappointed (more often than not) -> switches to (or back to) iPhone when the new one is released (once a year).
