the problem here is always the same one:

People are waiting for miracles made by Apple. Things like paper thin phones or holographics... ;). But also Apple can not revolutionise physics and materials to be used in phones.
If this is the new iPhone it will be again a huge step. Just look how thin this baby is going to be. I like it a lot and for me its a good step forward.

And there is room for more like some people said here: Inductive Charging,....

By the way: look at the Samsung Galaxy S, SII and SIII. Samsung also did not come up with radical new designs all the time.

What I agree is that Apple should think about offering different iPhones in order to compete against other smart phone makers.

An iPhone Nano would be sweat

At least they fixed the contrast issue in the back, but I still feel it could look better. Also want 1500+mAh battery, which I think they can do with the longer form factor.

: mind blown :

Do you hear yourself? This is the problem with allowing Apple to get away with anything they want. If these designs are accurate, then they have not innovated, yet we'll stretch the term "innovation" so that we can keep calling them the most innovate tech company in the world.

Do you see why this is a problem?

You know, it's okay to criticize Apple.

Thank you sir for your sanity.

The iPhone 4/4S button is one piece. Derp derp derp.

This is the next iPhone and it looks awesome. Notice no thickness anymore between the sides and the backplate.

The metal on the back looks awesome too. This is going to be a massive hit. Most (not all) of the MR members bitching about this will change their tune once the final product lands and they handle it in person.

Comprehension fail.

it's not that i don't like it. but i think apple needs to do something "more/else" to meet the tsunami of competitors. and - again - they need to differentiate their iPhone catalogue like they did with their iPods.

Look's nice and sleek, but too similar, but with the iPhone 4s being the same I thought/hope that Apple will bring out something new..

I hoped they might make it nicer to hold instead of a straight back

Last year was not very interesting hardware-wise
For iPhone 4 owners, it wasn't an interesting update, but these were not Apple's target audience (since phone contracts usually run 2 years).
For 3GS owners, the 4S is a huge upgrade. It made the old iPhones look much older than they actually are.

BTW: Don't underestimate the 4S's hardware platform, it is a very powerful phone, especially in terms of graphics performance (the iPhone 4 is not even close). I wouldn't be at all surprised if this year's iPhone brought new features (LTE, maybe NFC) but would still be based around the A5 chip (the new 32nm version of it, maybe slightly higher clocked). The same way the iPhone 4 was based on a similar hardware platform (same CPU/GPU, though on a different chip) as the 3GS.

What cracks me up about so many posts here, especially all the vitriol and angry posts, is that there is a pretty big assumption that this is the final design. All reservations should be held until Apple unveils the design in September or October.

To me that's the only reason to consider this might be real.

I think that the 4 series is the basic design that will be used for a while. It might be a tiny bit wider, longer, thinner, thicker, but that's all outside of maybe some material changes

I think most people would be happy if they would make a 33% thinner 4-4.3" iPhone with the same aspect ratio, based on the design of the 4 series, with no material changes. Like this:

iphone5concept2-e1309958046709.jpg

But why would anyone want a taller phone which materials look like a giant step backward from the 4S?

I was under the impression that the plastic windows were so that the radios can function - which would suggest that the antennae are no longer external. If that is the case, then why does the metal band still have breaks?

Nope, you've got it mixed up.
The antenna is still external but the back now connects the antenna bands.
If the back was solid metal it would bridge (or short) the two bands just like your hand did with the iPhone 4.
The plastic inserts are there to break up the back and stop it from bridging the bands.

And to the people expecting something radically different.
Come on!
This is supposedly one of Jobs' last projects.
Jobs, the guy that bought the exact same car in the exact same color every six months for years!
:p

Does anyone remember when the iPhone 4 was leaked and many many many people on here said how hideous it was, only to call it one of the best industrial designs of the 21st century months later when it was released?

And it was very different in design to the 3 series phones.

I for one thought it was beautiful from the moment I clapped my eyes on it.
I still think it's beautiful. But it's time to move on.

I could have sworn that on one of the last leaks they showed a backplate and it did not have the small hole (mic) between the camera and the flash...

I don't think they will sell that many. Looks like the 4/4S. if this truly is the phone that comes out in October I think Apple has lost its A game.

How long would this have taken Jony and company to come up with this idea?

9 to 5 mac has more pics of the parts, it looks pretty legit, otherwise some1 has gone a long way out of their way to make these up

Headphone jack on the bottom? If it's real, that sucks.

Why does the headphone jack on the bottom suck? Think about it:

1) how many people carry the phone in their pocket top in first, rendering the headphone jack useless?

2) how often do you sit at a table listening to music or talking on the phone wearing the headphones and want to look at the screen. The headphone wire often times drapes over the front of the phone. Jack on the bottom gets the wire out of the way.

3) perhaps you're using FaceTime wearing the headphones. Now you have to hold the wire out of the way of the front camera and if you want to flip the cameras and use the back camera, you have to move the wire again to make sure it's out of the way. Jack on the bottom makes this a non-issue.

Admittedly these are petty annoyances and totally trite. But I personally think the headphone on the bottom makes sense.

Why would apple intentionally leak an unfinished product, and leak it to obscure websites? Apple is most known for the fit and finish of their hardware and none of these "leaks" show a completely finished product. They all look a bit rough around the edges. Unless Apple is intentionally leaking fake designs to throw people off.

That's my point. These must be fake designs, otherwise Apple would be issuing cease-and-desist letters to all of these companies regarding their leaks. They would be sending letters to Macrumors and whoever is hosting these photos.

I can't see Apple making the iPhone a few inches taller and putting in a new dock connector..... I really hope these are plants and Tim shocks us in September.

You must be new here. Out of experience, leaks that persist over a long period of time about an Apple product usually turns out to be true. The longer screen and smaller connector are 100% coming to the new iPhone.

It's a high

Even Apple will find out, they can't keep going on only the hype about there products...

I've really always loved Apple. Ever since 2003 I've bought almost all exciting stuff they have made. But now it seems NOTHING new comes from them. iPhone 4S vs iPhone 4... Well I bought it, but is there a feel of difference? Not much.

Lion was for me an ugly downgrade compared to Snow Leopard. And Mountain Lion? Build on some lies I would say. A 14 month old computer doesnt get all features? That's a cruel joke. Though AirParrot helps with the mirroring on the AppleTV.

Windows 8 is completly new... Touch friendly and click desktop you have a normal pc. I hated windows untill a month ago. Now... I dont know. Seems microsoft is the new company with the real ideas.

Apples been sleeping resting on there success... Now I think it's soon downhill again, cos hype FASTLY turns into consumerhate.

Sad :-/ Apple should reinvent themself a little. But seems now it's all about money, before they now it goes downhill again. Im a Apple Fanboy, but not much longer :-(

Your logic is based on the assumption that most people who use the iPhone are men but in reality women use the phone as well and most of them would not have a pocket.

Wtf @ the volume button, first and foremost.

Second, what the hell is up with all of the whiny biitching?! -____- "It's not revolutionary enough" "omg the iPhone 4 was timeless this is stupid"

What is WRONG with all of you people?! Go design a better phone if all you're going to do is complain that a company's phone isn't 'revolutionary' enough for you, based off a few PICTURES. Reading half of the replies here seriously makes me cringe.
