Ugh. Square design. The gentle rounded back of the earlier generations is far more pleasing to the hand. It is the hand that must hold it and the hand that hold the money...

There is a *little* more taper to it, though I'm not sure how much that will help. I agree, my original iPhone feels much better in my hands - however I do like to take advantage of the square side of my 4 - and set it on tables to watch video. Not very stable though... and I'd gladly exchange that for something a little more ergonomic.

This is the first time I've seen a potential iPhone 6 and haven't completely hated it. It just doesn't seem like an improvement over the iPhone 4/4S.

I think I like it!

Overall I think I like this design! the only thing I'm not sure about is the screen sticking out as the back seems to be flush its not really that attractive to me having a flush side and one thats sticking out.
I'm not really bothered about it having NFC for not as I don't have that much use for it ( yet).
What I really hope is that they take ios6 beyond what we saw at WWDC and maybe add something like widgets to the home screen IMO thats what the os is lacking in a world of android widgets and WP live tiles I think that maybe just app icons are a little stale now ?

and im just dreaming here but some unexpected piece of apple magic would also be awesome! :D;):apple:

What is a pentile screen?

Can you please provide some good sites to see all those other phones' details that you are suggesting?

How do you think could those other phones' design beat this rumored iPhone 5?

Thanks

A pentile screen uses fewer than 3x pixels sub pixels to make up the screen. Most pixels have R/G/B sub pixels to make a color, a pentile screen has pixels that have a sub pixel for R/G/B, but some are larger and shared with other pixels.

Here's a closeup of the Galaxy S3 vs. HTC One X screen:

This causes some colors to look odd on the screen and causes strange color changes at different angles. On the S3, reds look like they are floating on top and blues and blacks look like they are in the background in a kind of eye popping 3d effect, but not the good kind that makes you go "wow". Whites turn a strange yellow if you don't look directly at the screen. Not everyone has eyes good enough to see these things but I think most do.

You can find information on just about every mobile phone made or rumored at gsmarena.com. The One XXL hasn't been listed on their site yet.

I don't think any of them actually beat Apple on design, but they have some neat tricks. The Galaxy S3's camera is amazing and the backing feels very nice to the touch and the blue shiny stuff is very pretty. The One X has external charging pins so you don't have to plug in and an amazing looking screen.

Overall though I haven't used an Android that felt as solid or as polished as Apple hardware, especially the iPhone 4/4S. The metal and glass on that feels very solid and the switches are great. Go grab an Android and just press the power button then press it on your iPhone. World of difference. I also think that Apple has the best OS. Android has some interesting features for what I consider to be edge case usage, but most of that stuff just gets in the way. The two deal breaker apps for me that weren't on Android were Nike+ and Flipboard, well, both are on Android now.

If the world operated on absolutes, then I think the only phone people would buy would be the iPhone 5. Instead, an iPhone user is going to look at that and say to themselves, "You know, even though I know its the best possible phone for me to buy, I'm bored with it, and I know that this other device can basically do the same things with less polish, but it has X." Say X is expandable storage or an exchangeable battery or a larger IPS display. Basically some WOW factor to get the consumer to ignore the OS upgrade update rate, or the pathetic battery life, or the less smooth interface, or the plasticy build quality.

I'm sure a lot of iPhone 5s will be sold, that's not what I'm getting at. I also think a lot of Androids are going to be sold to bored iPhone users, even tho those same users are massively satisfied by their current device. Ironic isn't it?

The pictures from the back and sides look good. The picture showing the front and bottom sides, bother me a little. I think it is the holes on the bottom side (mic and speaker holes). Some thing about those holes and the front don't look right and the front of the iPhone now looks dated.

This is not a cohesive design and cerrtainly not forward-thinking. To think that this will probably be around until 2014 is a bit worrying.

just wait until you hold the thing in your hands before making a proper judgement.

people said the same thing about the 4 and ended up loving it (me included).

And where are Apple's cease-and-decist letters to these leakers? Apple made quite a racket out of issuing those when genuine leaks were spotted. We have seen nothing of the sort here, which leads me to believe all of these leaks are intentional, controlled, and diversionary. However, I am probably also delusional to believe this, but I will keep my hopes up that Apple will surprise us.
They never send cease-and-desist letters. They only once sent a letter to Gizmdo, asking for the iPhone 4 prototype - and that was, because the iPhone 4 was an actual prototype back than. What you see here, is a next-gen iPhone put together by multiple parts that leaked.

I didnt get the 4s cos it wasnt so much an upgrade but my iphone 3g(no s!) is really dying so whatever........just hurry up, cash is waiting

It looks pretty good IMO. But I don't get:

A) Where is the ambient light sensor located on the front, now that the Facetime camera has taken its place?

B) Why the back camera and flash isn't centered vertically in the black stripe. It looks a little odd when it's so close to the bottom of the stripe.

C) Why not have a full metal back? I know that antennas can't go through aluminium so well, but since the antennas is AROUND the phone, it should be possible to have a full-metal back?

D) It looks a bit odd with the headphone jack on the bottom. It cuts off some of the left speaker making it asymmetric with the right speaker, also, it puts two ports on the bottom - and what should be on the top instead?

Is everyone still talking a Taller 4" phone?

This just doesn't make sense to me.

I want one that has a bigger screen that is Taller and Wider with the same resolution. Hint bigger text and Icons for my older eyes.

So unless Apple has some Great usability study that says this is the best way to go (They better start talking about it) Other wise I will wait and take a second look at the Samsung when my contract is up.

Very nice...

Personally, I feel like the iPhone 4/4s is the pinnacle of product design. The aesthetic of the device is amazing–clean lines all around, beautiful finish. This design improves upon that. Hell, just the addition of LTE is going to make my day-to-day so much better.

The only thing that I feel like COULD be changed is that the phone could have a rounded back to be more comfortable in the hand, but then it wouldn't be so 'slabbily sexy'.

I love this design and would be fine with it being like this indefinitely.

All I know is - when/if Apple redesigned their iPhone - it better not look anything like any other phone or they are going to get sued up the ying-yang as they have been suing others for trade dress violations.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

Not really the most fitting quote for a topic about the external case for the iPhone. Neither "who I am underneath" or "What I do" are particularly relevant to this thread. "Who I am at face value" would be.

I really sincerely hope this isn't it. And I don't mean it in the same way that was said when the iPhone 4 design first leaked. That was beautiful.

This? Who the heck wants a taller phone? I want a bigger screen, but I don't want JUST a taller screen.

Such an odd design, why does it need the giant bezels still? Why even bother making glass sections on the back that small? Terrible.

Yeah, I gotta agree with this. If this really is the new iPhone it'll be a fail for me. Why would they only make it taller and not wider? I love my GNex but was hoping the true iPhone 5 might be another game changer.

A bunch of you girly whiners are truly pathetic. Until you use some Chinese kirf smartphones then you will realize how truly amazing the iPhone design really is. 99.9% of the smartphones out now are pure garbage in design and material construction. Sure they have massive screen sizes but if I wanted an ipad screen I buy an ipad.

You whiners take it for granted. You don't how difficult it is to design a phone like this and one that actually works without issues. If you don't like the design then buy something else. But to say its not innovative you're full of it. Design something else better than this and you can critic all you want. Until then you're just like a typical movie critic.

No sir, it is you who is pathetic, and it would appear you don't understand. A phone like this is a major investment. In some countries like here, to buy it outright costs $1000. On a plan, it will still cost you about that spread over time.

We understand the build quality - otherwise we'd be buying other brands already. What we are disappointed in is the prospect that our 'beloved' apple is slipping behind the game.

I have been champing at the bit to upgrade my phone since 4S was announced. However, I could not see any features to blow me away and convince me to upgrade. The same appears to be the case with iP5 if these leaks are to be true.

What makes matters worse is that all the other companies now realise a bigger screen has benefits. Maybe it doesn't need to be as big as the S3, but it should be bigger because a lot of what we now do is on the net. Look up restaurants, pay bills, look up info on the go and so on. For a lot of us, a bigger screen makes sense.

What is bewildering, is that apple think that a 16:9 stretched format is going to cut it for us. It offers absolutely NO benefit. An extra row of apps, watch a tiny movie in landscape. Hell, even typing in landscape the k/b will still take up half the screen.

It's ridiculous. It's a slap in the face. It insults the intelligence. And this is true for all who have been using iphone for a long time. New comers into the fray of course will love it no matter what the format.

*IF* apple thinks the screen should stay small, then keep it small. Don't b*llsh*t us with a taller phone with which is what is ultimately the same thing they've churned out already for years.

You say that 99% of phones out there are garbage in design. I can tell you, the S3 has really lifted it's game. If the S3 ran iOS, it would be a ball-breaker - and I would have bought it already.

You say if you want a larger screen, you'll use an ipad. Well goody for you. You want to haul 2 devices around with you everywhere, that's your prerogative.

If apple had brought out a 4" proportional screen that made it a bit wider, most of us wouldn't be railing about it almost on a daily basis.

Just like desktop computer screens need real-estate, so do phone screens. That's the way things are evolving.

As someone else pointed out, maybe it's time apple put out 2 screen size models. End of argument.
