It's called evolution, and is how Apple works, those calling a lack of ideas in the new Apple, think twice, because this is the Apple we all know:

All of these iPhone 5 mockups are a joke. There's no way Apple would let any specs or design details leak.

These are a waste of time and space.

A radical new hardware and software redesign. Who says it has to be cheap in order to be different? The days of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude is over. If you can't offer something new and different then don't release anything. If this is the new iPhone (which I hope it's not) then Apple has begun to plateau in innovation and vision.

how "radical" can a "phone" really get? What are you looking for? a circle design? How is Samsung, Nokia drastically different from the iPhone besides larger screen and different OS?

Do I want a larger screen? yes, preferably 4.3 to 4.5 inches.
Do I want a newer OS? yes....but we already know since it's already demoed so you aren't gonna get surprised much more.
Do I want a truly functional assistant? sure, but it's not yet technologically possible yet on a phone.
Do I want a dictation system compatible with multiple languages? yes, we may get that.

Most importantly....get me reliable service and reasonable price so ATT and Verizon cannot continue to rape me :)

Does anyone remember when the iPhone 4 was leaked and many many many people on here said how hideous it was, only to call it one of the best industrial designs of the 21st century months later when it was released?

Does anyone remember when iPhone 4 was leaked and everyone was delighted at how different it was compared to the 3GS (which similarly was a design overhall from the original iPhone)?

This new iPhone has a stale look now. iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S and now iPhone 5 are essentially the same (two tone back and a taller screen don't qualify as dramatic design changes).

That's my point. These must be fake designs, otherwise Apple would be issuing cease-and-desist letters to all of these companies regarding their leaks. They would be sending letters to Macrumors and whoever is hosting these photos.

Or perhaps Apple is getting the public used to this look so when it comes out there won't be a massive disgust.

I agree with you logic but the phone is something that you buy every 2 years at least whereas the Mac you would buy once in 4 years. So an evolution in Mac industry is great but in the phone industry they need to speed it up.

If you look at the screen in the front-facing picture, it's way too light. Even in bright light, I can barely make out the edges of the screen of my 4S (where it meets the bezel) at that angle. No way they make the screen look like that, it makes it look way less sleek.

Excellent observation, I noticed the same exact thing.

That screen looks exactly like the fake iPhones that I've seen in New York City. They look very similar to the real thing, but many of the details are off, and the screens have that tell-tale light color seen here, which is also very similar to the 3GS.

Another thing, I'm not sure if it was mentioned already but the camera placement does not look like good design to me. Look at the camera placement on the iPhone 4 or 4S, and look at how much larger the lenses compared to the flash.

On the existing models, the curve of the lens mirrors the edge of the glass perfectly, and the black line is perfectly centered to this as well. On all of these pics, the positioning and proportions are incorrect.

Also, look at the orange of the mute switch in the shot where it is visible. Looks really bright, and on the iP4/S the orange doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the switch recess like this and would not be visible at this angle.

Both photos must show the same device; the film on the edge looks the same on both pictures.

This volume button is really weird.

The fuzz about the redesign...

I love this explanation made by a user on another forum and clearly states what Apple is all about in design:

Apple doesn't change the design of products to make them different. They change their designs only if it makes them better. Steve Jobs always said: "Design is a very loaded word! We talk more about how things are meant to function, not how they should look." This is a refined design that, trust me, will feel and function way better than a 4/4s design because that is how Apple does things.

Finally, someone who at least is sensible and rational. Change for the sake of change has never been an apple thing. And anyone who thinks that has not been following apple for very long.

This design looks awesome, more industrial, can't wait to take a look at the white version. =)

Well... It seems unbelievable that Apple is actually going ahead with this insane decision to make the phone taller but not wider. I was holding out hope that it wasn't true, but it seems that hope is getting dimmer and dimmer.

What in the name of all that's holy possessed them to make this decision? Has anyone here ever said to themselves "gee, I wish my iPhone was taller"?

This is just an incredibly stupid design decision that will see the iPhone lose more and more market share. Not that I have an opinion. :D

Just something more like this crappy mock up I did on Photoshop. A touch taller, bit wider but with 4.3" screen (It's measured to fit so would work) with tapered back, design like iPad. Nothing revolutionary but far better than the leaks. I didn't put all the details on or any potential aerial joins (as I'd have no idea of layout they'd choose) and didn't thicken it up enough but you get the idea. If I was doing it properly I'd do a render but this was 15 mins or so...

Overall dimensions wouldn't actually have to increase that much as indicated, ad a couple of mm to the thickness unlike my drawing, the taper would increase the ease with which the larger size could be held and probably be more comfortable in-hand the the 4/4S.

Lovely!.. I'd be happy with this phone. Looks great!
You got the screen the right size too :)

This won't happen until next fall when T-Mobile has LTE in place.

Yes but I'm sure the next iPhone should have HSPA+ support with T-Mobile. I mean, the AT&T iPad has 3G, 4G HSPA+ and LTE, why not the next iPhone?
