Dude.. you make a lot of sense. And it is where a lot of current iphone users are at. I'm one of them. I don't want to leave iOS because it is so polished and rock solid. I don't use many apps, but i like it's reliability.

The thing that opened my eyes (literally) was when i tried to read the Jobs biography on the phone while i was traveling. It's impossible. The text is way too tiny. I realised then that a bigger screen would make the iphone perfect - and I've been hanging out for that to happen.

Unfortunately, the 16:9 screen that is rumored does not address the readability on the device. This is what's so disappointing.

My daughter has had 2 gens of iphones - 3GS and 4. She took the plunge and got an S3, even though she lost everything she had in the iOS ecosystem. By all accounts, she says the S3 is really great. She uses it a lot for photos, social networking, taking notes, etc. She is very happy. The thing she complains about right now is the battery life. It's possible though that this is because she's fiddling with it a lot because it's new.

Personally, I want to stay with iOS. As I say to people, at least I can sleep at night knowing that no apps are compromised, security is good. The iphone also is great engineering. This was, however, while Jobs was at the helm.

It is a very strong possibility that the mentality of the company has now changed. It's inevitable. It will happen. When you read Jobs' biography, you realise there's not many people with his total anal dedication to detail. His willingness to write off something as "total ******" and not care how he may have hurt those that put a lot of effort into their design. There's not many people either that have his vision and foresight. I think many people here forget that all the good stuff about the apple gear we know today is because of Jobs. Sure Jony is there, but as I've always felt, even a good actor can be a ****** actor with the wrong director. Jobs was the director - but he's no longer there.

It will be interesting to see where apple goes in the future. We can only wonder.

This is EXACTLY how I feel...about the screen and about Jobs. For those of you that think he was just a great marketing guy, read that book. He was essentially the ultimate in quality control and the reason why Apple's products were always more polished than everyone else's. He wouldn't accept anything less. Deadlines didn't matter. People's feelings didn't matter. He was a dick but we benefited because of it. He was completely uncompromising and that is what led to the greatness that we've come to expect from Apple. I'm very worried that a lot of things that are good but not great will be slipping through the cracks now and Apple won't be the same.

I keep seeing ads for this phone on TV (especially the red one) and I think it looks butt ugly. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

For sure. I don't think the 4/4S is all that attractive, either, especially when hand-feel is considered. The S3, for me at least, feels terrific in the hand.

You must be new here. Out of experience, leaks that persist over a long period of time about an Apple product usually turns out to be true. The longer screen and smaller connector are 100% coming to the new iPhone.

Im not new thanks! Im just hoping they don't do that. Because if you remember correctly Tim, said Apple was "doubling down on secrecy". So if this is doubling down then........

I think most people would be happy if they would make a 33% thinner 4-4.3" iPhone with the same aspect ratio, based on the design of the 4 series, with no material changes. Like this:

Image

But why would anyone want a taller phone which materials look like a giant step backward from the 4S?

Yes, this is another sweet idea. Beautiful - and the screen makes sense.
Bang on the money.

Well if true, this looks better than some concepts I have seen. Personally I still like the full glass back better than this. The metallic back will probably offer better connectivity than previous models, as structurally I don't think it adds much of a benefit. For me I will wait until the next iPhone before upgrading, not enough for me to move.

Jony still on vacation ?
Apples so well known for Secrecy, nothing would suprize me. He's not been seen, quoted or talked about lately. Wonder if he's still at Apple.

This new iPhone doesn't require someone to style it. There are virtually no styling elements at all. Just two slabs of glass rounded at the corners.

The profit Apple is set to make on these will be record breaking. Being virtually the same width as the last two generations, tooling costs were paid for a long time ago.

Retaining this exact look for three generations, has triggered the programmed worshipers to declare it iconic. They stand at the ready, plenty of reasons, excuses, and ways to convince us it's more revolutionary that anything on the planet.

Another day another iPhone 'leak', when are we going to get some pics of the next iMac, or are they not as 'sexy' :apple:

What they see in the antenna band design is more space inside for more features. And perhaps better battery as well.

If companies can make Android phones that are much thinner and lighter with bigger screens without the stupid ugly antenna band and the seams, there is no reason Apple shouldn't be able to do the same.

Ha I remember when everyone complained about the iPhone 4 design. How ugly it was and that the iPhone is over. How did the 4 and 4s sell?

Will be fun watching Samsung copy the iPhone (6th gen.)
Knowing full well they'll get successfully sued. :)

I don't own any Samsung phones but come on...what are they really copying at this point? They're way ahead of the game at this point. The GS3 looks nothing like the iPhone. The screen is 1.3 inches bigger, the back is curved, the home button is completely different, they have about half the bezel of the iPhone if not less. They have many features that Apple hasn't even touched upon. I wish it wasn't the case but it is. Stop being ignorant. Apple needs to catch up in a major way.

Windows 8 is completly new... Touch friendly and click desktop you have a normal pc. I hated windows untill a month ago. Now... I dont know. Seems microsoft is the new company with the real ideas.
(

It's not really. It's still mutton dressed as lamb.
I'm a windows user since Win 3.0 and have used every version since.

OS X beats any windows product hands down. ML is the pinnacle of OS X.
Rock solid, stable. You couldn't ask for more.

I have similar feelings. Im sure that apple will continue to deliver "good" products, as apple definitely has a vision product line for the next 5-10 years which jobs will have influenced before he died. But I dont think we will ever see "revolutionary" and as well polished products as we have seen during the jobs era again. Apple will continue to be great, but will never be the same again.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm always surprised by comments like"Geez, this design is so plain... I was expecting a more radical design..."

So, a cube? Or an orb? Maybe triangular? :D

I think we're kinda stuck with a rectangle. The only things that can change are dimensions and materials. And even then, the range of change is still limited.

Wouldn't a change in the width cause massive problems with the previous two resolutions for apps? I am definitely not a fan of changing the aspect ratio.

These 3 smartphones have cleaner/sexier/simplier, more elegant and minimalist design

Exactly...and to those that say everyone thought the iPhone 4 was ugly when that design leaked...who are these people? I thought it was amazing...but it's over 2 years later! A lot has happened i nthe smartphone world, like these 3 beautiful designs. We know that Apple will be playing catchup to Android in software. They always are. It doesn't matter because iOS is so solid but we do expect their hardware to be unmatched. Using the same basic design for 3 years is lazy. There is no way around it.

I just went through some "Office" episodes on my DVR. Maybe Apple should copy that and make it a pyramid. Nothing says awesome like a triangular screen!

So because they don't totally change the iPhone external design at least every two years they aren't innovating. Suppose you'll say the same about the iPad when it looks the same next year. Suppose you basically say that about iOS and Mac OS since the UI hasn't been radically changed in years.

Don't you get it? It's not just about the design and look.

If he didn't work for Apple, there would have been an announcement. You can't have that high level of a person leave your company and keep quiet.

I personally wouldn't like an only-taller iPhone. It'll feel weird. I'm sure they'll get the weight distribution right but it'll make single-handed thumb operation much harder.

Geez dude I don't get all these repetitive articles on leaked iPhone photos. We got it it's gonna be longer and will have that dual tone at the back plus some other things! What's new this time?

Now where's my iMac?

I would reserve judgement until this thing is actually released, and better photographs (both promo and in person) are assembled.

The exact same thing happened with the iPhone 4, and the naysayers were eventually proven wrong. Regardless, I actually think the phone looks very smart and professional from the images so far, and that can't be a bad thing. Apple's current design does not favour any particular market or age group, whereas phones like the Nokia Lumia are just aimed at people who try too hard to look 'trendy' (ultimately, doing the exact opposite).

Theirs also something quite organic and solid about the current design; not the plastic nature of other phones. It feels quality.

Agreed. Even though I do expect a new and fresh design, I'd actually be pretty happy with the same basic design with a 4.3 to 4.5 inch screen. They really should just release two versions. I don't understand why that is so hard for them to realize. There is too much competition out there to combat with one design. It is not 2010. The game has most definitely changed.
