At first it looks really good and genuine, not until you zoom into you realize this is probably a prototype.
On the outside it all looks very smooth, also the inside looks too complicated to be a fake.
But if you look closer you can clearly see it's a fairly dirty prototype, the finishing is too rough, just look at the top and bottom inside, not smooth at all.

I am not saying this won't be the next one, don't even care, just bought a 3GS, better looking than this one and less than half the price, and plenty fast enough.

That the back panel has induction coil for charging...
The white stickers protecting the printed contact points..
Could he back panel be a CNC block of 'liquid metal'?
:apple:

You are silly, why CNC liquid metal if you can produce it with a mold, and probably more accurate as well.
The main advantage about liquid metal is, you don't need finishing, it's already perfect when it comes of the mold.

Lol, look at the join dates of all those "pro-Androiders" here. They all joined MacRumors in July… I wonder which company Google hired to do their social marketing?!

Absolutely thought the same thing. I have never seen so much vitriol on this forum. Suspect half the people writing "omg im going to fandroid" already own one.

The fact that the shape is similar to the iPhone 4/4S is not bad at all since many people like the form factor of the iPhone 4/4S. It will certainly become popular.

The 16:9 aspect ratio which replaces the 3:2 aspect ratio has becomed so popular that using it by Apple will facilitate the interaction of the iPhone with LCD/LED TV sets and computer displays.

It is foreseeable that the iPad will also acquire a 16:9 display in the near future.

When did YOU register again.

As FrankHahn above really, The fact that the shape is similar to the iPhone 4/4S is not bad.
I love the current 4S, however having previously come from a IP4 i would like something more than just a longer similar looking phone for the next one.

If the next model was much like the pics i would simply keep the 4S.

What they see in the antenna band design is more space inside for more features. And perhaps better battery as well.

Well what I see in the antenna band is a degraded usability as a phone (rather bad reception compared to other phones, even other smartphones).
It is ok (while certainly not great) in areas with very good network coverage, but once I am in an area with average or even low reception, I am VERY happy to still have an alternative phone with me...

Well I don't care if other people hate the design it just means that it'll be more exclusive when all the haters move to fandroid.

I'll be honest I wasn't a fan when the part first leaked but with each mock up and each new "leak" I like it more and more.

If this is the be iPhone I will be picking one up on day 1.
If there is some other design waiting in the wings I will be shocked.

Let's hope that the internals can now live up to the design and let's see what extra feature ios6 brings to the new iPhone :D

That pic makes total sense on how the dock adapter will work, and why they put the headphone jack on the bottom. It's all starting to come together.

Yes, but why does the old dock connector require input from the new one AND the audio jack for it to work? I have a bad feeling about this. They might have gotten rid of analog audio through the dock connector. Either that, or they just made it different or made it digital, which would be great.

Boring. Another iPhone 4. 3 years in a row!!

Looks like a flashback to the 1 -> 3G -> 3GS days.

Please stop. Degraded usability? The 4S has one of the best antenna designs on the market. Don't believe me? Take a Samsung Galaxy S2 and an iPhone 4S (both on AT&T) to a restaurant called Locale in Closter NJ. You'll find the GS2 is little more than a paperweight whereas the 4S still works like a champ.

Wow! Strange to know we already know what it looks like this early.

This is why I like MacRumors so much. I remember when I didn't know when Apple stuff was coming out.

These arguments never stop. Honestly, I've never experienced an unreasonable lack of reception with any phone except in my house, which has walls that seem to block everything in the radio-to-microwave range.

I'm still not liking this back cover....If it was all metal with just one glass strip at the bottom then it would look OK but the top strip just looks odd. Not sure about the earphone jack being in the bottom but it's not that big of a problem.

Apart from that, I think the phone looks amazing. I love the black stainless steel, the new speaker/mic grills.

I'm sure once Apple presents it to us we'll fall in love. I remember when the iPhone 4 was leaked, I hated it and now it's my favourite design. I'm sure I'll be tempted to buy one when it comes out but I'm perfectly content with my 4S.

Maybe I'll get the S version of this new iPhone next year ;) Gives time for the new design to settle in. If there's any hardware issues then it'll be fixed in the S release just like the iPhone 4 with it's antenna issues. Also, if this design is legit then apps will need to be updated to fit the screen. By this time next year majority of apps will be updated. Also, it allows companies time to create accessories such as cases/screen protectors/speakers etc. I've owned every iPhone but I think I'll switch to just the S models.

It looks quite odd from the back with the Glass / Metal / Glass. Should really just go with one material for the back in my opinion be that metal or glass.

For those who still think the screen is weird or sitting on top of the iPhone, that's because it is.

http://cydiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/lg_iphone5_061.jpg

Click on the image and look closely. It's clearly unattached to the iPhone.

Please look at the top of the iPhone, there it seems the screen is actually in the rear case. I'd say it's very likely that the screen actually sits inside the body

Exactly, that 45 degree bevel to me implies that the glass will be set flush inside the metal frame. Which means this phone is going to be supermodel skinny!

Why isn't the front panel sitting flush? It sticks up, making it thicker. Looks weird because it isn't flush too.

Such a variety of colours, I'd rather the band was solid black.

That's because whoever did this photoshop did not do it very well. For starters the front panel is thicker at the end point than at the top which already suggests something's gone amiss. Secondly a leaked front panel a few months back showed the part as being very thin not what can only be described as the iPhone 4/4s panel doctored in an atrocious manner and passed of as being the real deal.

Genuine panel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iB3bnm8QaU

I'm not complaining about the bigger screen that much, but why do people suddenly want a bigger screen? People seemed to be fine with the iPhone's smaller screen size for 4 years. I'm fine with it, but the big screen wouldn't hurt other than the fact that it use a bit more power and break a bit more easily.

I liken this trend to the laptop market when larger displays was all the rage. But as common sense set in, we've been seeing the pendulum swing back the other way towards the sweet spot of 12"-15" and you rarely hear about 19" and 20" laptops.

I see the same thing eventually happening with smartphones, especially as more people adopt tablets and voice driven UI like SIRI improves... we'll eventually settle in on a sweet spot, and I don't think it'll be too far off from the iPhone's 3.5" and rumored 4" screen.
