You are silly, why CNC liquid metal if you can produce it with a mold, and probably more accurate as well.
The main advantage about liquid metal is, you don't need finishing, it's already perfect when it comes of the mold.
Ok it's not CNC...
But looking at this angle the back panel is not flat..
Ridges running up the back... So either to cool the battery or has wires for induction...

Why whats wrong with the 4/4s design, its ground breaking engineering. to date no other people have come up with teh concept of having the antenna system intergrated with structural part of the phone

Yes none, omg how stupid they are
or maybe they knew all along that it will fail/not work as good as their choices.

Well what is the point of making still the same design, of course with minor changes, but basically still same shape.

Phone design should be changed at least every 2 year if not more often.
Just my oppinion.

Seeing the whole sets of pictures that includes the iside. I highly doubt this is real.

There are mold lines on the inside of the back metal plate that look like the ipod touch knockoff backplates. The first generation iphone that had the aluminum back was plain on the inside without markins. So is the iPod touch.

haha, I see the usual people are out in force winging about the screen size. Yet they will all still buy the iPhone no matter what screen size it has!! Go and buy a Galaxy Note and shut up, I'm sure it's more then enough slab to please even the hardest of big screen lovers?

I'm sure I am the same as many and wouldn't even be upset if they kept the same 3.5" screen size, but I would think they will go to 4" this time, and they will not go over that, even going to 4" is a big risk for Apple.

I see a lot of people saying 'its not very apple' and exactly the same thing was said about the black lines on the antenna band of the iPhone 4 on this very forum. Even Apple retail employees doubted those leaks 2 years ago.

Design taste is subjective. Saying something isnt very 'Apple' is like asking someone else 'what is rap music?' or 'what does this picture say to you?' or debating why someone likes a type of music. Everyone will have their own interpretation, and it changes because of tastes, age groups, user expectations and lifestyle choices etc. A design can become less appealing over time (if a product gains a bad reputation or is marketed poorly) or can grow on people over time (iPad naming). I would say at this point, it likely IS Apple based on the leaks before, timing, engineering, videos of these parts, amongst other things. It will sell massively, and things like this always look and feel better irl.

or maybe they knew all along that it will fail/not work as good as their choices.

The antenna system Apple put into the 4S never suffers any signal problems, many would even say they over engineered it! So integrating the ariels into the sides works fine. I won't be surprised if they use the same for the iPhone 5.

Of course it would have been better if they got it right from the start with the iPhone 4 and it was to be honest a catastrophe of a blatant design flaw that Apple just accepted, and expected us all too as well. Crazy, truly crazy, yet did it stop any of the phone sales? Not a chance...

In fact as shown recently the iPhone is still by far the biggest selling product and money maker for Apple. So do they need to copy Android and go to a 4.6" screen? Arguably not, the sales figures more then prove that one.

I'm not worried though, the iPhone 5 is said to have been the last project Jobs worked on to completion before his death, and the man has got it right so far with the phones so I trust the next one to be just as good.

It looks great, just what I wanted - a more refined iPhone 4 design with a bigger screen.

To those that are unhappy and wanted a complete redesign, why? Apple have found a form factor that works, why change it and make a device that looks like an Android phone. If you really want a big screen, flat and curvy design, get a Samsung Galaxy SIII.

I answer with the same question ,why a company of billions look unable to introduce something new? why do i have to face the same design for a third year? It's not like apple is the pioneer of hardware..
And second of all, who said that any of the people that complain here is asking for an android phone from apple? All they ask is for apple to design an apple product.
This thing is the same like an imac,we got the imac in white plastic then aluminum with plastic back and then all aluminum ohh lets not forget they made it thiner each time:rolleyes: .
In the pc world it works because its a pc, but this is the phone market, things don't go as slow as the pc market(we got the same designs for decades now), you can't just go and say "we made it longer and thinner" + a bump on the insides.

Also don't forget the screen, since we are talking about the apple ecosystem and fragmentation, this screen will be here for 2-4 years, can you honestly say(not you specific but all in here) that this screen size aspect ratio can stay that long like the 3.5" did?
This iphone if this is the new iphone IMO will be a failure and that means even if it sells 20m phones will be a failure from a business point of view.
If you wonder how a phone that sells 20m pieces is a failure then you don't or can't see the big picture.

PS.My post was not for the person that i quote only. :)

As long as it has LTE, decent battery life and plenty of memory (I think the entry level model should be 32GB), I'm fine with it. The comments about the bottom of the phone being "ugly"....(1) who really looks at it; and (2) most put the phone in some type of case, so problem solved.

I understand guys, that your wives buy phones for its look and design, but you?

Front side is 90% of display and back side is by 90% covered by your hand. You should care more about software and internal parts than design and colors.

On the other hand...

Well what is the point of making still the same design, of course with minor changes, but basically still same shape.

Phone design should be changed at least every 2 year if not more often.

What is the point of changing something just for the sake of it? That's what every other manufacturer has been doing for years. Some of them finally find a form factor that works for most people. I love my iP4, although I'd quite like a slightly bigger screen for some of the stuff I do on my phone.

I'm looking forward to whatever they deliver in terms of shape and design, because it's the OS and the Apps that work for me. I'm keen on getting Siri, and turn by turn in the OS instead of costing a lot. I'm also keen to get a little bit extra speed, and even better integration with mu iPad, iMac, iCloud, etc.

I love how people get so excited about these rumours. But at the end of the day, Apple design what they design, in an eco-system which is cosy and difficult to completely leave, and we, in our millions, buy it. If you don't want it, don't get it!

Take it easy guys... Apple hasn't announced anything yet. This might just be a old prototype.

I thought we didn't argue the value of apple based on HW. The second you open that can of worms along will be another more powerful Android handset. That leaves us with SW what has changed in iOS UI since 07?

Very beautiful and simple ;)

I guess that new model is that can be the new successor..
It's very tiny and it screen is most large.

Now, maybe the apple could make something different..
andddddddd surprise all us! :D

Moreover... I guess that Apple won't do the next version more large... mainly the screen, because they always spoken "This screen is more easy and more intuitive does not impair its use."

Maybe they could change that idea.

What do you think?

:D

This is 100% true, I design product for my company and after years of allowing "design by committee" I finally decided last year to say NO and stay strong with whatever ideas I wanted to go with, if things weren't satisfactory to me as the process went along then I'd change them. The result is that our products are better looking and receiving better feedback than ever. If you have strong design ideas then you have to be blinkered on them.

Some more comments from Ive:
"We are really pleased with our revenues but our goal isn't to make money. it sounds a little flippant but it's the truth. Our goal and what makes us excited is to make great products. If we are successful people will like them and if we are operationally competent we will make money."

"You learn a lot about vital corporations through non-vital corporations. "[Steve's] observation was that the products weren't good enough. His resolve was to make better products."

"I refute that design is important. Design is a prerequisite. Good design - innovation - is really hard. We say no to a lot of things that we want to do and are intrigued by that so we only work on a manageable amount of products and can invest an incredible amount of care on each them."

"Really great design is hard. Good is the enemy of great. Competent design is not too much of a stretch. But if you are trying to do something new, you have challenges on so many axes."

"[Augustus] Pugin felt there was a godlessness in making things in volume. He was completely wrong. You can make one chair carelessly, thoughtlessly, that is valueless. Or you can make a phone [that will eventually go on to be mass produced] and invest so many years of care and have so many people so driven to make the very best phone way beyond any sort of functional imperative that there is incredible value."

"We don't do market research. It will guarantee mediocrity and will only work out whether you are going to offend anyone."

Makes sense to me.

On Apples designs with the iPhone 4 and 4S, well I don't know about anyone here, but if you have had an 4 or 4S for a while, go and pick up a Galaxy S3, arguably the current best Android has to offer, and feel the plastic build quality!

I have, the design of the S3 is very clever, it's light, but it feels VERY cheap next to my 4, and I mean cheap! Also I look at my 4 and it looks like a luxury item, it is like a Rolex or Omega watch.
When you have that kind of design language and status in a product why would you want to change it? It's obviously a massive selling hit.

If Apple change the back to metal, bang goes the back glass breaking problem, the front glass is the same risk as every other handset then as it will be Gorilla glass 2 I should imagine. It will be thinner, if they implement NFC, a good powerful dual core CPU and GPU as I keep saying the PowerVR 6 series with any luck, then it will be more then enough to run at great speeds and give good game graphics. I also think the camera will be improved, have an even better lens and maybe an improved Sony ExmorR sensor.

It will have Bluetooth 4 I would think, Wireless N (5ghz??) etc.

But, in my opinion the one thing Apple MUST do with the screen is no matter the size, they MUST ensure it has the exact same PPI as the Retina screen in my 4, it also needs to try and match the AMOLED screens on colour and richness I think, and maybe be brighter?

That's the deal breaker for me, I'm sure they will do this, they sold the iPhone 4 on the Retina screen, the current TV ads sell the 4S on Siri!

I like it! It is really strage, some people whine because the design change isn't radical enough but at the same time they also whine because Apple replaces the Dock connector which has been around for ages.

What is the point of changing something just for the sake of it?

This. Personally, I'm looking forward to maybe a new internal hardware feature: NFC. Maybe better battery life, maybe that new wireless data protocol…

I really like the new design, and for the first time I think the black version looks as nice or (gasp) nicer than the white one. (Where's that one assembled!?)

Technically, one can argue the 3G/3GS was just a modification of the 1G. They were all round and had a similar overall look. The partial metal back was discarded in the next model for all-plastic. The iPhone 5 is different, but it's not a recreation, and I don't think it should be. And the all-glass back has been replaced with some metal…

For what it's worth I totally disliked the iPad 2 design when it was first leaked, yet I think my iPad 3 looks amazing. (Though it's odd, but the iPad 2 somehow 'feels' worse. Must be that screen.)

And we all know this "bad" design isn't going to make more than a few statistically-irellevant people not buy it anyway.

1.Exactly a blatant design error and did they fix it before the phone went to sales? No they didn't and wouldn't do anything if the media and users didn't make it a big issue, they had the time to test and test it and re-test the phone they knew the problem but did nothing.
2.True and that's the dangerous thing apple got away with it.
3.No one said to copy the android phones, to make a phone with a bigger screen has nothing to do with android or w8 for that matter+ no one said about a 4.6" screen, someone did a mock up with a 4.3" screen and the size of the phone was 120X63 if we take in consideration that the 3gs was 115.5X62.1 and we could use it with ease in one hand i think thats the golden point of an easy to use in one hand size for a smartphone without making you feel like you are holding a brick in your hand.
4.TBH i liked Steve Jobs the man was a genius but also was a person that could take back what he was saying the previous day.
Example when he introduced the imac g4 he said"we could cut the back of the g3 and put the hardware on the back of the screen but Bliaah" then when the imac g5 came out.... well what he called a bliaah before was super cool and sexy.

They don't need to change the design. They could simply come out with an iPhone 4GS and people would still be standing in line for it. Apple knows that people don't buy the iPhone because it is so advanced or different they buy it because it is an iPhone. Why waste billions on changing everything when it doesn't matter to customers anyhow?

And you see nothing wrong with that lol...

Innovation will kill Apple. The Gs3 is the best piece of hardware ive ever held in my hand. Bigger screen than the nexus, in a smaller phone. iOS is dated, and iOS6 didnt do anything to help that issue.

Same design since the iPhone 4? I'll skip this one

----------

HAHAHA it's the same design as the last two. What happened to the tapered design that the iPhone 4s was suppose to be?

The tapered design that would feel completely weird when holding the phone in landscape? THAT is a design Apple would never do. I believe they would someday make the back of the iPhone look like the back of the iPad. But I will never believe that they would make the phone feel asymmetrical when you're holding it.

Honestly, some of you guys are ridiculous. But, I remember all this yammering when the iPhone 4 came out. Major redesign, didn't feel like an Apple product, Apple is doomed, blah blah blah blah. The 4S is the same as the 4, it will never sell, Apple is doomed, blah blah blah.

History repeating itself here. The haters will be pissed when this thing sells like hotcakes.
