Ooo...I just thought of another way inductive charging could make the iPhone 5 "insanely great". It could be magnetic! Not just for charging purposes, but for attachment purposes. So you could mount a charging station/pad on a wall and then just stick the iPhone on it. Or more likely, just a vertical desktop mount since it would be less likely for your phone to suffer a large drop to the ground.

Am I the only person who thinks inductive charging could be the major new feature in the iPhone 5??? They just successfully obtained a patent for it a couple of months ago.

The back to me looks great. Two tone is cool, the metal back is fab.

But the front looks hideous. Black and the gun-metal tone of the rim just clash terribly. It looks like a 4S in a metal bumper.

We have the same Macbook Pro design for 4 years now, no one really complaints about that. it basic the same on the Retina Macbook Pro but the fundamental design is the same. and they improve on like they did on the Retina Macbook Pro

And they are they are doing the same with the iPhone, they found a design they like and can improve on over the years.

why do someting great one year and then trash a year after just because people want changes, its a about find a great design and improve on it.

Since we don't know of this is legit or not it would be nice if the mods added the word RUMORED to the headline.

I'm not sold on this. It looks like a bunch of parts piled together. As people have pointed out, there are a number of aspects that don't look genuine.

After checking out the pics closely the pic might be fake, look the volume buttons are 1 piece so there is no way for it to go in the wrong way. Look at the pic.

The iPhone 4/4S button is one piece. Derp derp derp.

This is the next iPhone and it looks awesome. Notice no thickness anymore between the sides and the backplate.

The metal on the back looks awesome too. This is going to be a massive hit. Most (not all) of the MR members bitching about this will change their tune once the final product lands and they handle it in person.

I like the design, and the dark grey metal is really nice looking. It won't feel like a 4/4S since the screen is longer, and it's mostly made out of metal instead of glass.

It's going to have the aesthetics of the original iPhone (the best IMO) with the angles of the 4, and a new larger screen. Sounds pretty perfect to me.

It would be hilarious if Apple as created these as a diversion and there is another model using some of the parts of this to make up another model.

I do not hate the design but the back is amateurish. There is a huge gap between the metal and plastic. The colors also do not mesh well together. I see 4 colors. The front bezel and back ends are black, the metal back is gun metalish, the silent switch is silver and the volume rocker metallic black.

In what world would anybody consider these seams beautiful or nice or Apple design worthy? They look butt ugly. Jeez, talk about not moving on and regressing. I don't understand what Apple sees in this design of having the antenna around the band with the ridiculous seams and joints. Now with the glass top and bottom panels fused with the Aluminum back, the whole thing seems so 'cheap' and has reached a whole another level of ugliness.

Then there will be an air bubble where the gap is. :(

That gap is hideous, however if these are "real" pictures, and not fakes (the volume button holds some weight to that fake theory) - I'd say the gap could be from the lack of screws in the bottom of the phone. At least, in the pictures I looked at, you could not see any screw heads - and with those not in, I could see how you'd have a gap at those interfaces.

As for the hole between the camera and flash - I'd venture to guess that's the microphone we currently have next to the headphone jack up top - moved to the back of the phone. Odd place though, I'd see it catching some whine from the LED drivers, and/or camera motors.

Overall - the mockups posted by MacFather and Colpeas look MUCH better to me than what's possibly coming.

It's going to be real disappointing if it's no wider than the 4S. hopefully these are plants by Apple.

Feel the same way. 90% of what I and most people do is having the phone vertical. So
The screen is relatively tiny and reading via kindle app or websites is a LOT less friendly than any of the android phones.

On the plus side, looks sharp and can be set on its side (you usually can only hold 4.3 or 4.7 screen comfortably if it's tapered).

But to bad on screen being so tiny.

Its nothing special, but if Tim Cook says "oh and one more thing... IT'S WATERPROOF!" I'm sold!!!!!

People are complaining saying they want the iPhone to have a larger wider screen and this feature and that feature like the other smartphones on the market.

But here's the thing. Even if Apple continues with the similar look of the iPhone 4/4s that's not necessarily a bad thing, nor a sign of hitting a plataeu.

A lot of people including myself don't want a mini tablet in our pockets. The Galaxy 3S is ugly, gaudy, too big, and just not really what some people want in a phone. Most of the smartphones today go for super sized screens which makes them wide and awkward. I want a slick moderately sized phone that easily slides in and out of pockets and bags while feeling good in hand.

The rest of the Android phones are cutrate cheaply made underpowered devices save for the few that have "huge screens" and some semblance of design.

The bottom line is the iPhone inspired all these other phones and some people will continue to want what the iPhone design offers. I don't mind it taller, but I sure as hell don't want it wider.

I used to hate touch screen bar style phones. I ditched multiple Android touchscreens and held onto my flip phones then Blackberry. The iPhone 4s in my opinion is the perfect design size. Some people want mini tablets in their pockets, I want a nice balance between smartphone and media device and iPhone does it for me and many others.

No reason for Apple to dramatically change the design IF enough people still enjoy what they do with the iPhone design. No reason to chase the Android bigger is better market because those people won't switch anyways or if they do, Apple alienates those who don't want a huge iPhone.

I just really think they wouldn't do a split back like that, looks amateur to me. I'm sure theres a reason why it's that way, but it just doesn't look like clean Apple design to me. I do like the gunmetal color although it loses it's instant identification from a distance that it's an iPhone. Kind of like VW's latest front-end design change lost their instant identification from a distance and now they blend in with the crowd (excluding the Beetle).

I'm kind of meh on it. I'm sure like anything it will grow on me. The larger screen is nice, but would be great to have a screen option more in line with the current Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X, etc...

Guess time will tell. I've been enjoying my Nexus 7, really impressed with it. With frustrating battery life issues with the 4S, I've contemplated a switch but it would be a big change, I've have had an iPhone since the first release. Besides the screen size bump (and presumably higher resolution than the 4S), there just doesn't seem to be that much different. Of course, these are 'leaked' pics, so you never know...

*cough* inductive charging *cough*

What they see in the antenna band design is more space inside for more features. And perhaps better battery as well.

Looks friggin awesome. If you want a wider screen, buy one of those ridiculous Samsung Notes, or whatever they're called. The rest of us will stick with the best phone made.

When it is seen in person people will go crazy for it. Everyone wants this design that they have built up in their minds which never existed... I'm loving the design and can't to purchase...

Since we don't know of this is legit or not it would be nice if the mods added the word RUMORED to the headline.

Then there should be a Rumor next to almost every article posted because the majority of it is never confirmed by Apple....

By the way I can't wait to see everyone's reactions when Apple releases that same phone we've been seeing for months.

People need to stop expecting some radical new design.

Its incredible apple is going with the exact same thing after 5 years , since ICS android has been a better option , i used to wait anxiously for apple keynotes but they have really dropped the ball with the iphone .... i used to be an iphone user ( i bought an iphone 4 the day it came out) and at the time it was really cool , but now with all android has to offer its not even a close call anymore , and if this is really what the next iphone is going to look like non tech savy people are going to start swithching to adnroid to !!
