And if, for some reason you forget to plug it in for one of the 365 days in the year, you have no phone for the following day.

I remember when phones lasted for a week EASY, and now people say 1 day is plenty.

Progress huh?

While I know you're talking about battery technology, it's coming off like you're disregarding how far the phones you're comparing with have come. How can you compare the battery life of a mono-color display of 100x100 pixels pure phone technology, to a retina display "mobile computer" powerhouse, that's faster than most computers from 10 years ago? Heck yeah it's progress, if you'd like to have the 1 week battery life, I believe there are still dumb phones out there..

Heading to iPhone 6, cause it will be better am sure.

----------

Nope thats not true, because in europe nobody has LTE with the new iPad!
Why not just wait for the iPhone 7? Maybe even the 8? That one will be better as well as well as every iteration after a previous generation.

Is this new hole between the camera and flash the noise cancellation mic?
Image

Speaking of the flash: I was hoping at some point for a much stronger flash (xenon?). My 4S camera is outstanding in general and has very good low light performance, but it would be much better indoors/low light with a better flash.

Yeah, we'll see. I am referring to the machined cut out in the unibody frame. The rectangular hole in the upper left of the pic.

[...]

What the hell could it be?

OK, sorry about that, I've had the not-an-NFC component on the brain lately, I totally see what you're describing in the photo. Maybe just a cutout for an antennae (GPS?) ... we know (or "know") the ends are capped with plastic/glass, so maybe both ends (since the bottom is frame can't be seen), have cutouts for the various antennae that aren't external, vs. a sensor like a FP reader, though that would be interesting and cool.

Why don't you give the mAh rates?

1440 vs 1430. But that's also misleading. Seems like a smaller difference than it actually is. There appears to be a potential improvement to the batteries themselves aside from capacity. Add that to the new processor which will likely be more power efficient, and it won't really give you an accurate picture of the battery life by simply measuring mAh.

I'm going to guess that Apple likely managed to get the battery life in the same ball park as the 4S, and potentially even more on 3G. Battery life is not something Apple likes to mess with, they like to keep it consistent, hence why they haven't added LTE until 2012.

Well, let's see how it fares when it's released!

Read the post I was quoting and previous comments and then calm the hell down. I was defending the phone and the only reason I used the words incremental upgrade was because that was the terminology I was responding to.

Here is ur whole post...

I have an android device as my backup that I'm using now as I just sold my 4S. I really, really dislike it. I am not excited about the incremental upgrade but I do want the bigger screen. That said, we still don't know all the "5" has to offer.

I'm not upset :) <see, I'm happy. No need for me to calm. u were calling it a marginal upgrade, cause obviously that's what u think of it. And I get it. There's a ton of people on here calling it nothing more then a stretched 4S. And I'm here just to say that I totally disagree. That's why we're on this forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just happen to think ur opinion is crazy. This phone is going to be awesome. Just wait until the 12th. It's going to a whole lot more then what we've seen so far.

Well I don't appreciate the "Stop with the nonsense" attitude. You're right, everyone is entitled to their opinion so don't come at me when mine opposes yours.

I have this vision of a reality show, something like the Amazing Race or Survivor. Tim is on stage. Live footage of contestants running from various locations towards the venue flash on screen, each contestant holding a part of the new iPhone. The doors open and the contestants run up to the stage, then madly put together the parts to form a phone (while Tim shouts guidance with commentary). Tim smiles, 'Ladies and Gentlemen, the new iPhone!'

remember when the new iPhones were a mystery? That was way more fun..

when ? oh u must be talking about when a whole iphone 4 leaked and we knew exactly how it looked and Steve Jobs said im gonna show the new iphone and he said jokingly oh thats right you've already seen it and the whole room laughed.... or maybe the 4s when we knew how it looked cuz the 4s is just a spec upgrade or maybe the 3s cuz we knew how it looked too because it was just a spec upgrade......lol leaks happen

It's actually quite simple. Look at the side profile of your 4S or 4. There's the metal band, and the two glass covers on both sides of the metal band. But the internals are only as thick as the metal band (actually they're a tad thinner). Apple didn't need to get the internals thinner, they just needed to figure out a way to design a shell that didn't require two glass covers sticking up from both sides of the frame.

So now the 5 will simply be as thick as the metal band, with no glass covers adding to the thickness.

If you take apart an iPhone 4, you'll kind of appreciate just how amazing it was engineered. But you also see how much thickness the glass covers added to the overall impression of the phone in your hands. They don't seem like much, but when you remove them it just feels unbelievably thin.

I fail to see how this explains anything. The phone still has a glass cover, with we know if 0.9 mm compared to last years 1.0 mm. And it still needs a back.

A phone needs a top, bottom, and sides. If the thickness was 9.3 mm, and is now 7.6 mm, with the same internal thickness battery, then the top and bottom got thinner. Period.

Where could they possibly have saved 1.7 mm? Becuase the screen only saved 0.1 mm and the back was only 1.0mm to start. So even WITHOUT A BACK, it's still not enough. My guess is in the digitizer.

I really don't understand all of the complaining about battery life. I use my iPhone 4 constantly throughout the day and it always makes it through until I go to bed. At which point, since I am going to be unconscious for 8 hours, I plug it in to charge overnight.

What is the issue? Why would anyone need a phone that lasts longer than a typical day?
?
it would be nice ...wouldnt you want a phone that would last more than one day when used constantly? maybe 2 days or 3..... it wouldnt hurt

im really hoping this is the not the shape of iphone 5. because its just looking too long.

but this is mostly likely going to be it. i just hope it isn't awkward holding it in your hand.

its just half an inch taller ...hold ur iphone right now and picture half an inch on top

----------

I would gladly take a thicker phone if it had a battery that lasted for 24 hours with moderate use.

yeah me too . theyre saying its thinner than the iphone 4s if the 5 would keep the same thickness and not go thinner for a thicker bigger battery id be glad for more time.

But it is nonsense. Opinions are one thing. But saying its a marginal upgrade is just nonsense. iPhone 3G to 3GS was marginal. iPhone 4 to 4S was marginal. iPhone 4S to 5 is the total opposite of marginal. That's a fact.

Less of a deterrent to leak secrets now

WAIT! How is there so many leak since Steve Job dead??

When Jobs was here, as a deterrent, a leaker was tracked, handcuffed, arrested, fired, fined, sued, blacklisted, stripped, caned, and iTunes account rescinded.

Under the new leadership, a leaker is 'doubled down.' (?) Whatever that means.

I expect to hear the same pitch we hear with every new Apple product: "All these great new features - SAME battery life."

Hopefully it works out better this time than it did with the 4S.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't want to believe it but I'm sure it'll be the same story as it usually always is.

I think that if they did something real outstanding with the battery it would be looked upon as a HUGE feature really. Something in the 2500 range or there abouts would be awesome!

Guess I'll have a Mophie juice pack picked out a couple weeks afterwards, no big deal.

You've seen it? All we "know" is that it will have a bigger screen. And even that we don't know for sure yet. You can justify it all you want, an opinion is an opinion.

I'm here for my love for Apple and not to argue, I'm over it. :apple:

not just taller please

i am seriously hoping that the iphone 5 isnt just taller, bu also wider, not by much maybe just half a centimetre, the tall version just doesnt look right, its too long. like those android tablets, too long.
plus i hate the 16:9 screen ratio, maybe thats why.
