The Note 7 isn't a "major" resdesign from the Note 5 (they skipped the "6" so that it's the same naming scheme as the iPhone 7, how ironic). The only thing that looks remotely good is the Iris scanner but it doesn't work with glasses and is a massive gimmick. Also, people are going to look right idiots when they're in a queue and they hold up their phone to pay using the Iris scanner.
I'm pretty sure the note 7 was named such because the galaxy series is up to 7 (i.e. Samsung Galaxy 7). It had nothing to do with the iphone.

I wish that's what it meant!

But no, as usual this does not represent the real world...at all. And the 10+ million iPhones Apple will have manufactured for launch weekend will still be insanely hard to come by.

I really doubt that. But you'll have your iPhone SE without setting the alarm in the morning :)

Agreed on the Note redesign point. You are, however, off base with the naming/numbering scheme.

First, there's no conclusive evidence the next iPhone will be called iPhone 7.
Second, Samsung skipped 6 to align the brand experience with the Galaxy S7 since they're both 2016 devices. I'm pretty sure their 2017 offerings will be Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

The iris scanner is infra-red and works with both glasses and contacts - only the setup requires their removal. It also works at night. Sure it might be a gimmick but then again, when using a phone with gloves it gives the user another unlock option. Gimmicks do have a place in changing the thought paradigm and spurring on innovation.

It's OK to be an unabashed Apple fan, however, you come off a something of a cult follower; unable to do proper research to support your points - not a good look.

I'm only saying what I thought I read somewhere, that the Iris scanner doesn't work if wearing glasses. I've had my fair share of Samsung phones so I think I have the privilege to comment.

I love how they used "Doge" for the icon of the reliability testing app.

This must be fake. After two years they would be able to make the bezels smaller and minimizing the space at the upper and downside. This looks so 2014

To many this is silly, but to me, this is big. Why the F is the camera not flush? I'm still using my 5s because I like the flush camera. I can't understand why Ive's allowing a bezeled camera. It's un-apple. Design is such a big part of the Apple brand and I feel like Jobs would never have allowed this bezeled and raised camera on the back. Sure I could put my phone in a case and then it's a moot point, but why would I case such a beautiful device?

I'd get the SE but I need 128gb option.

New processor? 256gb option? Faster touch ID (as compared to iPhone 6), 3D Touch (again, as compared to iPhone 6)? Improved water resistance? I think there are lots of reasons to upgrade.

New processor - one in the 6 is fast enough for many
256Gb option - an expensive optional upgrade
Faster touch - big deal
3D touch - don't need it
Improved water resistance - I've never got mine wet

These are not reasons to upgrade - they are nice options to have if you need to buy a new iPhone.

The specs of the note 7 and looks are at least modern, something you expect from a piece of high tech.

Let's see the numbers and we will talk again. My prediction: no lines in front of stores. Big decline in sales. Will it sell big numbers... Sure. But Apple lost its cool when it is what the rumors suggest. Hard sell for that price.

No line in front of stores? That's not going to happen. This isn't a Samsung product. Big decline in sales? Year over Year decline already happened thanks to how extraordinarily well the iPhone 6 did. This new phone will be going against the more realistic sales of the 6S. Also in its favor are all those iPhone 6 owners that have 2 year old phones and are ready to upgrade.

Devices will sell. There will be lines. To think otherwise lumps you in with the wall street dumbsh**s who scream Apple is doomed and keep the share price at rock bottom prices.

You think that just because there are no lines outside an Apple Store, it doesn't sell well? You do know the majority of people, oh, what is it, oh yeah, use the Internet to order it and get it delivered.

The phone has a camera bulge because Apple wants to claim the phone is X millimeters thin (not including the bulge). Early advertisement pics of the 6/6+ omitted this unsightly bulge. The episode reeks of deceptive advertising.

Instead of concentrating on features Apple is concentrating on thinness.

This is the only thing that bothers me about the new phone. People say it's a minimal upgrade but i think the faster processor, additional ram, more storage, better camera are all pluses. The only thing that bothers me are the obnoxious huge bezels. It seriously detracts from a good product that Apple puts out.

Your reaction seems like a diehard apple fan who has lost contact with reality. I think a lot of people with two year old Apple phones in need of a new phone will switch to alternatives. There are plenty better alternatives around and there are coming more each day. That's what worries me and that's why I'm so disappointed in Apple. I'm an avid apple user since 1989 but these days Apple is drifting away from me! Why? Same old, same old with embarrassing not even adjusting the price. That's called milking and that's the Apple of today.

Apple use to believe in design symmetry. As long as there is a physical home button the iPhone will have a gigantic chin and forehead.

I've had my share of Samsung phones too and they're not by cup of tea.
Your post I quoted, if you read it again, provides fuel to the iSheep comments. Frankly, it's poorly researched, presumptive, and insecure. You do have the privilege of commenting; it is, however, welcomed when comments offer something of substance over vacuous fandom.

I'm still upgrading on day one, as it's become a ritual for me. But honestly, I'm not counting down the calendar days like I have in the past.

If they have surprise in store for us, say a refreshed MacBook Pro, then we have something to Watch.

I think Apple has been that way for a long time. Look at the entire Mac line.

can't wait to see all the Note 7s on swappa in the near future.

I once bit the bullet and went for the Note when I got tired of the iPhone and iOS. Within 6 months of using the Note 3, I went to a 5s. iOS is more for me. I'm sure Samsung, TouchWiz and all that has improved over the years (it has to right?).

We will see. The same comments appear with every iPhone release. I have history on my side. But I guess if people keep repeating that iPhone sales will fall then eventually they'll get lucky and be right.

And what projected orders are these? You have inside information that the rest of us don't?
Well I hope sales are terrible

Might give them the kick up their ass they need

If iPhone adds waterproof and the camera is fantastic then maybe it won't be a distaster

Space black model would be ideal. I'm hoping Apple has something planned for this phone that we don't know about

Vote by not buying the crap they be selling lol. To seriously hurt Apple in the pocket book keep your gear longer. If not for the 1GB in my 6+ I'd have few reasons to upgrade. My MBP is from 2011. 5 years old and I'm still trying to milk more time out of it before upgrading. I'm not asking for the same out of a phone, but I expect 3 years of use now.

I used to upgrade for the sake of it but won't unless it impresses. Camera is a big deal to me and I like the waterproof of my edge so those both have to be ticked off here

Reading the comments on MacRumors makes me really, really sad. Just a bunch of whining and complaining people, with nothing else to do than be negative about Apple and it's products. Surely we might expect better, but what's the use in complaining, complaining, complaining? You people make me sick. Go buy an Android and never, ever come back here. You'll do the world a favour.

People like you make me sick. People like you buy whatever your brand tells you to buy. Don't ever question that competitors are improving or have even surpassed Apple in certain areas. But no, us complainers are the problem. We are part of the group pushing and prodding Apple to improve the iPhone in areas where competitors are ahead. Like the display. Like the front facing camera. Like the battery life. Like the damn RAM that Apple continuously skimps on.

I'll get it, but only because I'm a part of the iPhone upgrade program and if they switch to 32/128/256GB then I can move down in price $100 by staying at 128GB. What I'm really looking forward to is the rumored complete redesign next year, which I predicted before any rumors pointed to a special 10th anniversary model. This year is definitely a stop-gap model by keeping a similar design, but I think a much-improved camera combined with waterproof casing and wireless Earpods could move enough units to keep them afloat until the 10th anniversary model. Especially if they can improve on the battery with the removed headphone jack and potentially flush home button. Oh, and as for that button, the way that they changed the behavior in iOS 10 for the home button makes me think that it's likely the home button design has been changed, and the tech is in place with the trackpad on the MacBook. It would also help with waterproofing and transitioning users to Touch ID integrated into the thin bezel display—possibly next year.

Wait, so you'd rather have horrible sales instead of a good phone that sells like crazy? You'd rather wait for Apple to supposedly "innovate" for NEXT year than make a good phone THIS year?

The current camera is fantastic. The S7 is only slightly better at stills but inferior in video. Especially in slo-mo where the 6S rules.
