Yep, it should be fairly efficient.

They have said that in past years but I dont think its been enforced. I know they called me and asked and I cancelled.I've read this thread but I haven't found the answers to these two questions yet:
1) Do they really only hold your Apple store pre-order for only a limited time like 24 hours?
and
2) It seems like even the pre-order line may take quite a while to move because each person has to activate their phone (they might have complicated issues to deal with with switching carriers, trying to shift to new plan, the servers are swamped so people cat activate, etc.) and potentially ask for help/tutorials, open their box, try to trade in their existing phone(s), etc. Does anyone know how it works?
When I've gone to my closest Apple Store on a regular day it takes 15 minutes at least before anyone helps me (this doesn't include the check in, which is pretty fast). Does everybody just move faster on launch day?
I have to decide whether I have to take a day off of work just to pick up my preordered phone. I'd rather just pick it up after work or close to closing time so they have to get me my phone fast so they can all go home. No one else on this tread seems to be worried about this so maybe I'm worried for no reason. Hope so. I've read that they make you activate in store. I wish they could just throw me the package, I go home and get it activated on my own.
Also, how does the line get split up after everyone is in one big line to start with? Is it just who moves the fastest to the right line/has the sharpest elbows? I guess that's more than two questions.
Thanks in advance.
I am treating the 'Cancel Items' button on the order status page like it's a nuclear launch key.![]()

I really hope the in store activation is not mandatory because I need to 'cross upgrade' my phone. Essentially I'm using my sister's upgrade. I just want to go in, pick it up, and leave. Then go to AT&T so they can apply my phone number to the new phone.
Hey guys....is it Friday yet?!
Here is the chat log between me and an Apple online CSR:
TD;DR:
2)Authorized User needs to have the same ATT billing address as the primary holder on the ID. Or authorized user's name needs to appeal on the utility bill at the billing address. Otherwise the store would offer to ship the phone to the billing address (hmmmm....)
Good luck guys!
- In one post in this thread, someone was worried that "in-store activation" meant that Apple had to open the box. NOT TRUE: the way Apple "activates" your new phone is by just scanning a barcode on the box. By scanning the barcode, Apple servers transmits to your carrier that YOU now have the new phone, and the carrier then switches service from your old phone to the new one. It DOES NOT involve syncing to iTunes on one of the store's Macs
I'm hoping this agent doesn't know what he or she is talking about. Why would I - as an authorized user - have the same billing address as my father (primary holder) when it is billed to his office. He doesn't get any utility bills there, and since I don't own the business why would I be on the bills? We don't live at the office so why would either of our IDs (I assume this means like a driver's license) be connected to that address...
I specifically don't want it shipped to the office because he won't be there.
Hi fellow addicts!
Though this LOOKS like my first post, I've actually been around in previous launches under username "superlatives"; somehow my password doesn't work.
For those of you who did like me and ordered for pickup on Sept 19, I wanted to share some Pickup Day info which I received from the store I'm going to pick up from: the Boston store on Boylston St. (one of the large Apple Stores)
- according to the person with whom I spoke, the Boylston St store WILL have TWO lines: 1 for preorders like me, and another for Opening Day buyers
- Although she had NO OFFICIAL information on this, she EXPECTED that those of us who preordered for 09/19 pickup can do so AT ANY TIME on the 19th (NO idea if pickup on Sat/Sun is allowed). She assumes this because, according to her, "Apple knows already how many preorder pickups are needed at the store".

- The store EXPECTS (but did not promise) that the preorder line will be MUCH SHORTER than the Opening Day buyers line.
- For those of you worried that a Store salesperson might accidentally "sell" your reserved phone - from MY experience from the 5S last year, the store puts a sticker with your name on it.
Hope that helps some of you! FYI here are a few things I WILL do when I pick mine up:
1. Although I DO NOT HAVE TO open the box before leaving the Store, I WILL. REASON: if I open the box AT the store and it's got a cracked screen or it's DOA - then at least I'll have a lot of witnesses!
2. Although I'm not in a real rush to HOLD my new phone, I do plan on being there between 8:30 and 9:30. REASON: To minimize any problems with activation, I'd like to get mine BEFORE purchases/activations in other time zones occur![]()
I'm think the rep had no clue what they're talking about. I'm an authorized user with a different address than the account holder as well. I will raise a huge stink if they give me any issue. I paid for the phone, give it to me.![]()

+1
Your ID address matching your billing address is ONLY true if your phone is a new line on your account. If you're simply upgrading an existing line, you need to be an authorized user with a matching ID (for matching name NOT address), last 4 of the account social, your billing ZIP, and the password for your account.

If I do not receive a pick up time for my iPhone 6... Can I just show up after work & my preordered IPhone 6+ be there?
