I really hope the in store activation is not mandatory because I need to 'cross upgrade' my phone. Essentially I'm using my sister's upgrade. I just want to go in, pick it up, and leave. Then go to AT&T so they can apply my phone number to the new phone.

Yeah... just tell them not to activate it. I've done this before. They just hand you the iPhone and let you go on your way.

However, I would avoid AT&T stores until, at least, the afternoon. It will be a complete mess and you'll be waiting for a long time.

However, I'm not cross-upgrading, so I'll just let them activate it in the store.

Same boat as you! now i'm just trying to decide how early or maybe not early?(later in day) to pick it up

I'm thinking of getting to my store around 730 with coffee in hand. :)

If the line is too long, I'll come back after lunch. I'm not waiting around.

Here is the chat log between me and an Apple online CSR:

TD;DR:

1)Phone will be put aside and reserved for you to pick up from this Friday to next Sunday (YEAH!!)

2)Authorized User needs to have the same ATT billing address as the primary holder on the ID. Or authorized user's name needs to appeal on the utility bill at the billing address. Otherwise the store would offer to ship the phone to the billing address (hmmmm....)

3) Activation is required at the time of pick-up

Good luck guys!

No, this is how it works. They will send an email when it's ready, if you go before it won't be ready. When I did my iPhone 5 pick up in store, I got my email at around 8:30AM.

They specifically say to please not come in until you receive your email.

respect your opinion but this is a YMMV. Down here in Miami it definitely does not work that way. I won't go before 8am I will probably around at 8:30 but I am willing to bet I will have my phone before I receive my e-mail that it is ready. I won't be turned away either if I have not received that e-mail.

to further prove my point. This has been released. http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/16/exclu...etail-store-gameplan-for-iphone-6plus-launch/

shows customers in line that have a PPU (personal pick up) those customers can get there as early as 5 am if they so choose to, then be seperated into their PPU line.

so unless I receive my order is ready for pickup at Friday at midnight or middle of the night, I anticipate receiving my e-mail that I have completed my order (picked up) before ever receiving my order is available for pick up email

When the Apple Store employee turns you away when you don't have the email/code, what are you going to do?

Hopefully, I can hang out at the front of the pre-order line until the email shows up, then give up after an hour or so (my goal is to get to work for a 10am meeting). I'd rather show up and get in then go back in the middle of the day, although I realize I may have to do both. :(

ask for the Manager which I know. Or ask for a business representative. The company I work for has a joint venture with this particular apple store.

Neither of these two will be necessary.

You should have it by then. It was pretty painless for the iPad Air release, emails were out before the store opened.

What if the billing address is a PO Box and the PO Box is not on the ID? Seems like an ill conceived rule that would be impossible to enforce.

Hey all, is your order status from Apple still "Processing Items?"

I'm assuming so, just making sure we're all still on the same page.

I'm surprised they aren't shipping or at least preparing to ship yet, given that the home delivery orders are shipping. Ours still have to ship, just to the store..

Mine is still processing.

Honestly, I'm not expecting another email until Friday morning lol

The next thing you will see is "ready for pickup"

I just was told that it will no more email. I just need to show up on Friday with printed order.

Yep, I called two stores near me, just to make sure and that is what they said. No more emails. I will get there around 7:30.

Hey Personal Pickup People (P3) :) ...

Because of a post regarding tradeins, I stopped by the Apple Store on the way home. Spoke with a guy who said he JUST finished Launch Day training.

I asked him "If you preorder for pickup on Launch Day, CAN you, at the time of sale, trade in your OLD iPhone (in my case, an AT&T-unlocked 5s) and apply the amount to the purchase of the NEW iPhone?"

ANSWER: No.

According to the sales guy, the full cost of your preorder WILL be charged before you set foot in the store. Though you WILL need an ID and the card, no "card-swiping" will occur for the phone.

You CAN STILL, however, get the Apple Gift card. You just can't apply it to the iPhone.

Hope this helps!

Seems antiquated.

I shouldn't have to print & bring in paper. :( I should be able to show them my order confirm email.
