Anyone know if Apple will let me take the phone home sealed? I need to do an account swap at AT&T (used my mom's upgrade)... so I don't want them to activate this line and essentially "killing" my mom's service.

I don't see why not since it would be the same as them shipping me my phone.

When you get to the apple store, tell them before they open the box and activate it. The At&t rep told me to tell them before it's activated. I'm doing the same with my wife's upgrade. As an extra precaution I'm getting another sim card from an At&t store and giving it to my wife so she can have it on Friday if something goes wrong.

I'm still trying to fully understand this... If I'm doing an upgrade swap and they activate the phone in the store, will that kill the phone that is being used for the upgrade? IE I'm using my daughters upgrade for my wife, but don't want my daughters phone to stop working when I pick them up.

I've read this thread a couple times and can't seem to determine exactly how this will work. I always had them delivered before, so this is my first time picking up.

Thanks
I had a chat with the apple support folks online about this question, as I'm using my wife's upgrade and am concerned about the same thing.

They told me to tell them that it's not for the phone on the order, but for another phone # on the account. The Apple support person indicated it was something the apple person could change before activating...they didn't mention that I'd have to go to AT&T or (more likely) call AT&T and have them handle it.

Anyone else have different info?

I don't think there's a status like that... I think next status is ready for pickup

Agree. My order still says processing, ready for pick-up 9/19. My credit card charge is still under temporary authorizations. I don't expect any change until Friday when it says ready for pick-up (or hopefully says that).

I am exactly where you are. Order still processing, CC charge still under temporary authorizations.

To those saying there are no other statuses, go to your order page on Apple.com, and however over the blue arrow next to "Processing Items." There you'll see all of the potential statuses of your order. You can tell by the names and descriptions that the possibilities are for in-store pickup specifically.

Other possible statuses include "Preparing for shipment" and "Shipping to store."

Maybe it just skips those steps usually, or those will come tomorrow. Only time will tell. Just hope we all get our iPhones on Friday and everything goes smoothly!

I have a question regarding trading in my old iPhone and using toward the purchase of the new iPhone I pre-ordered to the store.

Can I use the Apple gift card apple will give me toward the purchase of the iPhone 6 I pre-ordered. I called Apple and they say because I already pre ordered the phone, it can't be. Is anyone wanting to use the gift card apple will give you for your old iPhone for a new one? I find it extremely disheartening that they wouldn't take it.

Thoughts?

A manager at an apple store told me last week this was possible, though I'm having doubts now about losing my upgrade eligibility price when I return it to rebuy it.

Would love to know if anyone else has any insight on this too!

ZOMG.. I hate waiting. still processing hell...

I have made a reservation for in store pickup. I guess this is different from ordering online and picking up on the store as no money is charged until you pick it up.

I ordered online the first day, and asked for in store pick up. It's set for friday. My credit card was charged yesterday.

I've bought all my iPhones from Apple. And they've always had me open and activate in the store.

I had a similar "chat" conversation with AT&T (and saved the chat transcript). The rep assured me I could even pickup my Apple ordered iPhone and then head straight to AT&T and trade in my husband's iPhone 4 for AT&T credit. He said there, anyway, the credit is for signing another contract. fwiw.

Anything show up on your apple support profile?

THESE DAYS, Apple "activates" the phone by scanning a bar code. SO ... they don't have to open the box and connect to iTunes like in the past.

As I said in a previous post, I WANT to open it in the store. If the screen is cracked, I'll have Apple Store staff as witnesses.

Yeah you're right. Just make sure you tell them it's an upgrade swap before it's scanned/activated.

I think the store will have to scan the barcode to mark the phone has been picked up. But would it automatically activates the phone?

Just between us, word on the street is that Apple store will receive shipment of the phones to their stores today. So keep an eye out for the status of your phone to change

Aspen grove in littleton Colorado baby! Gonna hit the store about 0900 so the pre order line does down and I'll most likely be able to walk right in and get it.

Still in process, but I don't think it's going to change until Friday.

Btw, currently I'm using a 5S and I used my Dad's line to purchase the new phone. Question is, when I get the new phone, can I just pop-out the SIM card in my current 5S to replace the one came with the new phone and then activate the new one? Or do I need to call AT&T?

I've been seeing both answers, but has anyone done the similar thing before?
The second the phone is activated your dad's current sim will be killed so you need to know that. After it's activated yes, you can use your sim.

Funny - if you got there that late at the NYC 5th Ave store (where I have my pickup), you would probably have to wait for hours. I'm planning on getting there relatively early, but am still expecting a long wait.

Thank you AFDoc! So no need to call ATT before&after swapping then?

Try and get your dad an extra sim card from any At&t store, so if his gets killed he just call up At&t and have the new sim card activated on Friday.

What he said. Just grab a couple SIM cards from AT&T just in case. They're free, and if anything goes wrong, you'll be prepared. That's what I've always done. I've needed new SIMs for both phones (my line and line I'm upgrading on) each time I've done an upgrade swap.

Same here. Still processing. Credit card company says authorized but not charged. Still says available for pick up 9/19, and nothing's been added to the support profile. Guess we'll see

That would save me a lot of time (hate going to AT&T stores). So say the Apple employee switches to my number before activating the new phone, I wonder if my "unlimited data" grandfathered plan would transfer over as well... or would it be the plan I chose when I bought the new phone.

In the past, the more in-detail/complicated you get with AT&T stuff... I've heard it was better to just handle it at an AT&T store.

Only a little while longer!!! Hopefully the pick up line isn't too crazy; I am hoping to get to the store around 7:30am. I don't really want to get up any earlier than 7am since the whole point of a pre-order was to avoid the long lines.

You don't have to. Ideally us pick up in store people should be in and out fairly quickly.

Anybody here picking up from Valley Fair (CA)? Would like to trade my gold 64gb 6+ Verizon for a silver one if they don't have the stock to let me swap it out..

Do any of you with AT&T show that your upgrade is still eligible after doing in store pick up? I made a double pre-order with AT&T Premier and apple last Friday. This morning, I was finally able to confirm cancellation of the AT&T order after making several calls throughout the week. I just hope that my apple order ends up going through and doesn't get canceled because of the conflicting use of the upgrade.
